Apart from all the uses of ionic and covalent
compounds in our daily life, there are also
problems arise from it.......

PROBLEM IN THE USE OF
IONIC AND COVALENT COMPOUNDS

IN MEDICINE

During Chemistry lesson, we have been introduced with ionic compounds as well as
covalent compounds. These compounds are always present in our daily life in every
nook and cranny. Frankly, these compounds can benefit us in certain tasks but some
of them may welcome bad implications to us and environment. By understanding the
situation, it is undeniably true that some ionic and covalent compounds will bring

issues instead of advantages.

For this project, the only method to do a research is through the internet. This is due
to the reason that current pandemic puts us at risk with the infection of Covid-19 if
we conduct the data collection outside. Other than that, internet is a useful tool to
search for any information with just one tap away from the screen of our electronic

devices.

Iron (II) Sulphate, FeSO4 (Ferrous Sulphate)

Use: Used to treat iron deficiency anemia (a lack of red blood
cells caused by having too little iron in the body

Disadvantage: Toxic to aquatic life. Precipitating and colloidal forms
of the chemical may have lethal effects by clogging and cause
inflammation in respiratory organs of invertebrates and fish

Ibuprofen, C13H18O2

Use: Everyday painkiller for a range of aches and pains

Disadvantage: Rivers contain levels of ibuprofen that could be
adversely affecting fish health

HEALTH PROBLEMS

Iron (II) Sulphate, FeSO4 (Ferrous Sulphate) Ibuprofen, C13H18O2

Side effects: Side effects:
constipation Can cause stomach related side
contact irritation effects that need immediate
diarrhea medical attention
dark stools
nausea abdominal pain
stomach pain sour stomach
urine discoloring bloating
vomiting cloudy urine
heartburn
trouble breathing at rest

Avoid alcohol to minimize the WAYS TO SOLVE The main measures to prevent
risk of stomach irritation. Have THE PROBLEMS pollution is to avoid washing
a lot of water or fluids when and disposing Iron (II) sulphate

taking capsules. into sewers or sinks
Besides, avoid high-caloric Never try to dispose medicine
like Ibuprofen by flushing it
foods away because this is a terrible
Avoid taking antacids, dairy idea which may lead to the
products, tea or coffee within accumulated pollution towards
2 hours before or after this
medication because they will the environment
decrease its effectiveness.
Take tablets or capsules with a
full glass of water. Do not lie
down for at least 10 minutes
after taking your tablet dose

Conclusion

To sum it all up, there are
uncountable uses of ionic and covalent

compounds in our daily life.

Undoubtedly, the apprearances of
ionic and covalent compunds seem to
lead a big leap in medical field and

help us to encounter diseases that
invade human bodies since it had been

discovered.
