I will be so ever grateful for his kindness and patience through teaching me this beautiful art called photography. It is wonderful to see the world thorough a lens. I love composing the picture in my mind which is always teeming with ideas. I will sometimes choose unusual viewpoints and I wait awhile for the right light or dramatic clouds to appear at the perfect moment to enrich the scene. I like how I can influence mood through contrast and colour during my editing process on the computer. I truly enjoy photography so much! I find it to be exciting and rewarding, and I am always learning something new. My friend and mentor died of cancer in 2021. Treat your friends as you treat your pictures, and place them in their best light. This fiddle is difficult to play The worlds largest fiddle and bow reach a height of 18.2 metres (60 feet tall). It is located on the Sydney water front in Cape Breton Island. It is a tribute to the traditions of the large Celtic population in the Province. The Big Fiddle was designed and constructed by Cyril Hearn in 2005. More from Debbie Lake Spirits Sandy lake also known as “Lake Spirits” is located in Lakehurst Ontario, Canada. On a sunny day you can see a large beautiful heart shaped rock that lies on the bottom of the lake, known as “Giants Heart”. This rock glows with a peculiar purplish hue. First Nations claim that on days when the lake is perfectly calm, ripples form about the great stone. They claim that these ripples are pulsations from the heart-shaped stone. This lake is land-locked and has no feeder river. Water flows out of the lake and down Sandy Creek to Buckhorn lake. Trilliums ~ A true sign of Spring It can take a single perennial trillium 7-10 years to produce a flower. A large population of trilliums could be about 40 or 50 years old! If you pick the flower, no other trillium will grow in its place. A white trillium is the emblem and official flower of Ontario. It was designated the provincial emblem in 1937. (Floral Emblem Act), and as the state wild flower of Ohio in 1987. Professional soccer teams from Toronto and Columbus compete for the Trillium Cup every year. June 2024 Issue 26 “If you have gained the trust of a horse, you have won a friend for life.” Foals are born after a gestation period of approximately 11 months. During the first weeks of life, the foal gets everything it needs from the mare’s milk. It receives about a litre of colostrum that is produced within the first few hours following its birth. This milk will provide antibodies and boost the foal’s immune system. A foal may start to eat solids from ten days of age, after eight to ten weeks it will need more nutrition than the mares milk can supply. Healthy foals can typically stand, walk and trot and keep up with their mom only a few hours after its birth, and they will bond very quickly. A male foal is called a colt and a female foal is called a filly. I’m just a girl that loves horses and enjoys photographing them. -Debbie

Early Life and Career Beginnings Roy Kelton Orbison was born on April 23, 1936, in Vernon, Texas. His early years were marked by a deep love for music, inspired by the country and blues sounds that dominated the American South. Orbison’s first instrument was a guitar given to him by his father, and by the age of eight, he was performing on a local radio show. His passion for music continued through his teenage years, leading him to form a rockabilly band, The Wink Westerners, while attending North Texas State College. Rise to Fame Orbison’s big break came in the late 1950s when he signed with Sun Records, the legendary label that also launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis. Despite his early recordings at Sun not achieving significant success, they helped establish his unique voice and style. In 1960, Orbison’s career took a dramatic turn when he signed with Monument Records. Collaborating with songwriter Joe Melson, Orbison crafted a series of hits that would define his legacy. His breakthrough single, “Only the Lonely,” released in 1960, showcased his powerful, operatic voice and marked the beginning of a string of successful recordings. The song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and established Orbison as a major force in the music industry. Signature Style and Iconic Hits Orbison’s music was characterized by its emotional depth, complex melodies, and dramatic arrangements. His unique voice, which could effortlessly transition from a baritone to a soaring tenor, became his signature. Songs like “Crying,” “In Dreams,” “Running Scared,” and “Oh, Pretty Woman” not only topped the charts but also showcased his ability to convey intense emotion and vulnerability. “Oh, Pretty Woman,” released in 1964, became one of Orbison’s most iconic songs, featuring a memorable guitar riff and his distinctive vocal delivery. The song’s success was international, and it remains one of the most recognizable rock and roll songs of all time. Personal Struggles and Resilience Despite his professional success, Orbison’s personal life was marked by tragedy. In 1966, his wife Claudette died in a motorcycle accident. Just two years later, Orbison faced another devastating loss when his two eldest sons perished in a house fire. These events profoundly affected him and were reflected in the melancholic tone of his music. Despite these hardships, Orbison continued to perform and record music, although the latter part of the 1960s and the 1970s saw a decline in his commercial success. However, his influence on the music industry remained undiminished, and he was admired by contemporaries and younger artists alike. Comeback and Legacy Orbison experienced a career resurgence in the late 1980s. His 1987 album, “In Dreams: The Greatest Hits,” reintroduced his music to a new generation. In 1988, he became a member of the supergroup Traveling Wilburys, alongside Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, and Jeff Lynne. Their debut album, “Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1,” was both a critical and commercial success. Orbison’s final studio album, “Mystery Girl,” was released posthumously in 1989, shortly after his untimely death from a heart attack at the age of 52. The album included the hit single “You Got It,” which became his first Top 10 hit in nearly 25 years. Influence and Recognition Roy Orbison’s impact on the music industry is immeasurable. His innovative vocal techniques, emotive songwriting, and unique style influenced a wide range of artists, including Bruce Springsteen, k.d. lang, and Chris Isaak. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, a testament to his enduring legacy. Orbison’s music continues to resonate with audiences worldwide, and his contributions to rock and roll are celebrated by fans and musicians alike. His ability to convey raw emotion through his music remains unparalleled, ensuring that Roy Orbison’s legacy as one of the greatest voices in rock and roll history endures. ~ JohnK Roy Orbison: The Voice of Rock and Roll

Navigating the Financial Terrain: A Guide for Indie Artists on Tour Introduction: Embarking on a tour as an indie artist is an exciting but challenging endeavor. While the thrill of performing live and connecting with fans is undeniable, the financial aspects of touring can be complex and demanding. In this article, we’ll explore essential tips and strategies to help indie artists navigate the financial terrain of touring and live performances. Budgeting and Planning: a. Create a Realistic Budget: Outline all potential expenses, including transportation, accommodation, meals, and equipment. Consider unexpected costs and factor in a buffer for emergencies. b. Tour Length: Assess the ideal duration of your tour, balancing the number of performances with budget constraints. Longer tours may require more financial planning and a sustainable budget. c. Venue Selection: Choose venues that align with your audience size to maximize revenue potential. Negotiate favorable deals with venues, considering factors like ticket sales splits. Revenue Streams: a. Diversify Income Sources: Explore various revenue streams, such as ticket sales, merchandise, and crowdfunding. Utilize online platforms to sell merchandise before and after shows. b. Merchandising: Design and produce high-quality merchandise that reflects your brand. Set reasonable prices to encourage sales without discouraging potential buyers. c. Crowdfunding: Consider crowdfunding campaigns to finance specific aspects of your tour, like travel expenses or new equipment. Engage with your fan base and offer unique rewards to incentivize contributions. Financial Management: a. Separate Personal and Tour Finances: Open a separate bank account for tour-related transactions to maintain financial clarity. Use accounting tools or apps to track income and expenses. b. Emergency Fund: Set aside a portion of your budget as an emergency fund for unexpected costs. Be disciplined about sticking to your budget to avoid depleting the emergency fund. c. Insurance: Consider insurance coverage for equipment, health, and liability to protect against unforeseen circumstances. Negotiation Skills: a. Contract Review: Thoroughly review and understand contracts before committing to any performances. Negotiate terms that are fair and beneficial to both parties. b. Rider Agreement: Clearly outline your needs in a rider agreement, addressing technical requirements, hospitality, and any additional requests. Communicate these requirements in advance to avoid last-minute issues. Post-Tour Evaluation: a. Financial Assessment: Conduct a detailed financial analysis post-tour to identify areas for improvement. Evaluate which revenue streams were most successful and adjust your strategy accordingly. b. Fan Engagement: Capitalize on the momentum gained during the tour to strengthen your relationship with fans. Encourage social media engagement and maintain communication to sustain interest. Conclusion: Successfully managing the financial aspects of touring as an indie artist requires a combination of careful planning, strategic thinking, and effective execution. By creating a realistic budget, diversifying income sources, practicing sound financial management, honing negotiation skills, and conducting post-tour evaluations, indie artists can not only survive the financial challenges of touring but also thrive in the dynamic world of live performances. Strawberry Rhubarb Crunch Baking is a love you can see, smell, taste and touch I harvested the rhubarb from my garden. The rhubarb plant is over 100 years old, it came from my mother -in- laws Aunt Sadies property. Ingredients: • 3 cups diced rhubarb • 1 cup diced strawberries • 1 cup white sugar (I cut the sugar in half ) • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour • 1 cup packed light brown sugar • 1 cup quick cooking oats • 1 cup butter Directions: Step 1 Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Lightly grease an 8x11 baking dish. Step 2 Place rhubarb and strawberries in a large mixing bowl. Add white sugar and 3 tablespoons flour; stir well to coat and spread evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Set aside. Step 3 Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, brown sugar, and oats in a separate mixing bowl: cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle crumble mixture over rhubarb layer. Step 4 Bake in the preheated oven until rhubarb is bubbling and crumble is golden brown, about 40 minutes. Serve hot or cold. Top with one scoop of vanilla ice cream if you fancy.
The idea for this comic series started years ago as part of a drawing spate. Stoneheart, the artist, has been a lifelong trained fine artist. KARMA the Kat appeared as a fanciful creature... just appeared, like all great art does. Inspired. And became several sketches over the years. The decision to turn KARMA the Kat into a comic was a collaborative one with a professional art director, Stoneheart was persuaded to explore some comic themes. All the panels are digitally hand drawn - every little bit of them! This is critical as it is, first and foremost, ART! We have over one hundred in the catalogue and are presently working on reels, short videos, and books. There are hundreds of online apps for making comics similarly there are thousands of stock photo libraries, clip art and musical loops for example. Creativity and originality are the most important driving factors in KARMA the Kat! Well, and making you chuckle of course! Oh, Good Guitar Karma! As a tiny kitten, I never dreamed I’d grow up to be a guitar goddess! I was just a cute little fluff ball, chasing my tail and pouncing on dangling strings. But one day, I batted at the strings on my owner’s guitar and discovered a raw, primal talent within me. That’s when Shreddy Kitty KARMA was born! Now I’m the biggest feline rock sensation since... well, since ever! I strut onto stage in my skin tight leopard print bodysuit, my tail swishing back and forth. As soon as I lick my paw and rake it through my lush headbanger mane, the crowd goes wild. Teenage toms practically swoon at my kitty licks between face-melting riffs. This cat may be small, but she can shred with the best of them! I wrap up every show by coiling my body around the mic stand and screeching out some hair-raising meows. Talk about a showstopper!
WHO IS CJC ? As a music promoter who specializes in worldwide radio airplay for bands and artists of various genres from all over the world, I interact daily with many people in different time zones. It’s a very busy job, which I love but who is Catherine aka CJ who is CJC Promotions? Working on my own to bring the best new releases to radio stations all over the world is a very busy role in which I am the owner, manager, admin team, sales team, accounting team, marketing team etc. I’ve got my multitasking down to a fine art and try to make sure that I get ‘me time’ on my day off to get away from my laptop and music. My love of music began when I was 7 years old and my parents gave me the vinyl record ‘Save Your Kisses For Me’ by the 70s UK group Brotherhood of Man, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974. Today, as a 57 year old, I adore hearing new music and am in a very lucky position when artists send me new songs to listen to. I get my headphones on to do this, as I’m actually profoundly hard of hearing. I do have hearing but for the best quality, I use my headphones when doing this. In my spare time ( when I get any ), I love to go out for coffee and I’m a huge supporter of small, local, independent coffee shops and garden centres. My dream location to do this is beside the sea and I’m super lucky that I have this, only five minutes drive from my home which is also beside the sea in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Another joy of mine is swimming and I find this is where I get the most benefit to switch off, when I’m in the pool. During the winter months I swim indoors but during the summer months, I am lucky enough to be able to have the super Stonehaven Outdoor Pool only a fifteen-minute drive away from where I live. This is a true diamond locally as it’s an Olympic sized pool, heated and salt water which coupled with the beauty of swimming outside, definitely has the feel good factor as well as being great exercise. Another love of mine, is visiting Scottish National Trust Properties ( castles mostly )in the local area, which have a garden to have a short walk around. It’s truly amazing to see places like these, change during the seasons as the flower and plant growth comes on in leaps and bounds. I guess, reading back through my words, the other side of the business person CJC, is Catherine who loves peace and quiet away from noise. Time to appreciate life and the beauties of nature. Life is meant to be enjoyed so enjoy every single moment and try and get the balance between life and work correct. Catherine J Campbell CJC PROMOTIONS SCOTLAND Catherine Campbell

We Salute...RickyNelson Early Life and Show Business Beginnings Eric Hilliard “Ricky” Nelson was born on May 8, 1940, in Teaneck, New Jersey, into a family already steeped in show business. His parents, Ozzie and Harriet Nelson, were well-known radio and television stars. Ricky’s early exposure to the entertainment world came through his family’s radio sitcom, “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet,” which later transitioned to television in 1952. Ricky and his older brother David grew up in the public eye, their lives chronicled on one of America’s most beloved family shows. Transition to Music Ricky Nelson’s music career began somewhat serendipitously. In 1957, at the age of 16, he decided to record a cover of Fats Domino’s “I’m Walkin’” to impress a girlfriend. The single, released by Verve Records, became an instant hit, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. This unexpected success launched Nelson’s music career and marked the beginning of his dual identity as both a TV star and a teen idol. Rise to Stardom Nelson quickly signed with Imperial Records, where he began to establish himself as a significant figure in the burgeoning rock and roll scene. His early hits, including “Be-Bop Baby,” “Stood Up,” and “Believe What You Say,” showcased his smooth, laid-back vocal style and ability to blend rockabilly with pop sensibilities. His performances on “The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet” helped him reach a wide audience, making him one of the first artists to successfully leverage television for musical promotion. Musical Evolution While initially seen as a teen idol, Nelson sought to expand his musical range. He began to write more of his material and collaborated with top musicians, including James Burton, a pioneering rock and roll guitarist. Nelson’s sound evolved, incorporating elements of rockabilly, country, and traditional rock and roll. His 1958 album, “Ricky Sings Again,” demonstrated his growth as an artist, with hits like “Lonesome Town” and “Never Be Anyone Else But You.” In the early 1960s, Nelson continued to produce hits such as “Travelin’ Man” and “Hello Mary Lou,” both of which became enduring classics. These songs highlighted his maturation as a performer and his ability to adapt to the changing musical landscape. Challenges and Reinvention The mid-1960s brought challenges for Nelson as musical tastes shifted towards British Invasion bands and psychedelic rock. His chart success waned, but he continued to record and tour. In 1969, he made a notable transition to country rock with the formation of the Stone Canyon Band. This move revitalized his career and influenced the burgeoning country rock movement. The band’s 1972 hit, “Garden Party,” a reflective song about Nelson’s experiences with fame and the music industry, became one of his signature tunes. The lyrics, “You can’t please everyone, so you got to please yourself,” resonated with audiences and symbolized his defiance against being pigeonholed by his earlier teen idol image. Personal Life and Legacy Nelson’s personal life was as public as his professional career. His marriage to Kristin Harmon, sister of actor Mark Harmon, was highly publicized and produced four children, two of whom, Gunnar and Matthew, would go on to form the successful rock band Nelson. Ricky and Kristin’s relationship, however, was tumultuous and ended in divorce in 1982. Tragically, Ricky Nelson’s life was cut short on December 31, 1985, when he died in a plane crash while en route to a New Year’s Eve performance in Dallas, Texas. He was 45 years old. Despite his untimely death, Nelson’s Ricky Nelson: The Teenage Idol Who Became a Rock and Roll Pioneer
influence on music is profound. He is credited with helping to bridge the gap between early rock and roll and modern rock music. His ability to successfully transition from a television star to a respected musician set a precedent for future generations of artists. Nelson was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, cementing his place in music history. Enduring Influence Ricky Nelson’s legacy continues to be felt in the music world. His pioneering efforts in blending rock and roll with country elements paved the way for future artists and genres. Songs like “Lonesome Town” and “Garden Party” remain beloved classics, showcasing his talent and versatility. Nelson’s life and career serve as a testament to his enduring impact on American music and culture. His journey from teen idol to respected musician highlights the evolving nature of fame and artistry in the 20th century, and his contributions continue to inspire musicians and fans alike. ~ JohnK

The history of the fiddle on the east coast of Canada is rich and multifaceted, reflecting the diverse cultural influences that have shaped the region. The fiddle, or violin, has become a symbol of the musical heritage of Atlantic Canada, particularly in areas like Cape Breton Island, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, and Nova Scotia. Here’s an overview of its history and significance in this region.
Early History and Cultural Influences Scottish and Irish Influence Scottish Immigration: One of the most significant influences on fiddling in the east coast of Canada is Scottish immigration. In the late 18th and early 19th centuries, many Scots, particularly from the Highlands, settled in Nova Scotia and Cape Breton Island. They brought with them their traditional music and dance, which heavily featured the fiddle. This Scottish influence is particularly strong in Cape Breton, where the Cape Breton fiddling style developed. Irish Immigration: Irish immigrants also contributed to the fiddle tradition, particularly in Newfoundland. Irish settlers brought their own distinct style of fiddling, which merged with other local influences to create a unique Newfoundland sound. French Influence Acadian Fiddling: French Acadians also contributed to the fiddle tradition in Atlantic Canada. Acadian fiddling, prevalent in parts of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, has a distinct style influenced by French folk music. This style often features lively, rhythmic tunes suitable for dancing. Regional Styles Cape Breton Fiddling Cape Breton Island is renowned for its distinctive fiddling style, which remains closely connected to Scottish traditions. Cape Breton fiddling is characterized by its rhythmic drive, complex ornamentation, and the use of both strathspeys and reels. Key figures in this tradition include: Buddy MacMaster: Often referred to as the “Master of Cape Breton Fiddling,” Buddy MacMaster played a crucial role in popularizing the style. Natalie MacMaster: A contemporary fiddler, she has brought Cape Breton fiddling to international audiences. Newfoundland Fiddling Newfoundland’s fiddling tradition is influenced by both Irish and Scottish styles, with a unique local flavor. The music often accompanies traditional Newfoundland dances such as the set dance and the square dance. Notable fiddlers include: Rufus Guinchard: A legendary figure in Newfoundland fiddling, known for his energetic playing and unique repertoire. Emile Benoit: Another influential fiddler, Benoit’s style reflects the rich cultural tapestry of Newfoundland. Acadian Fiddling Acadian fiddling has a distinct character, influenced by French folk music and local traditions. It often features syncopated rhythms and melodies that are well-suited to dance music. Prominent Acadian fiddlers include: Jean Carignan: Known for his virtuosic technique and extensive repertoire, he played a significant role in promoting Acadian fiddle music. Modern Developments and Preservation In recent years, there has been a resurgence of interest in traditional fiddle music on the east coast of Canada. Efforts to preserve and promote this cultural heritage include: Festivals and Workshops: Events such as the Celtic Colours International Festival in Cape Breton and the Newfoundland & Labrador Folk Festival celebrate and teach traditional fiddle music. Educational Programs: Various institutions and community groups offer fiddle lessons and workshops to ensure the tradition is passed down to future generations. Recordings and Media: Modern technology has allowed fiddlers to record and share their music widely, contributing to a revival of interest in traditional styles. Conclusion The fiddle is more than just a musical instrument on the east coast of Canada; it is a vital part of the cultural identity and heritage of the region. Through Scottish, Irish, and French influences, and the unique contributions of local communities, the fiddling tradition has evolved into a rich and diverse tapestry that continues to thrive today. ~JohnK

‘Baby Hedgehog’ is the title track of newly released sixth album from Norfolk, UK based Singer-songwriter Paul Thompson. Written and recorded in Paul’s studio in rural Norfolk, the song was prompted by his heartfelt encounter with an injured hedgehog, which he nursed back to health. ‘’while the world has disappeared further towards Hell on a handcart; this singer-songwriter and his songs remains in the wings charming all who sit before him’’ (https://rockingmagpie. wordpress.com) Listen to/view the single/video here: https://youtu. be/iE98YLpI4ts?si=HmmuW_56oW73WdIE If you would like to feature ‘Baby Hedgehog’ in your magazine , I have attached several photos, single sleeve and press release. Described by Acoustic Magazine as ‘blissed out Donovan meets John Martyn’, Paul’s music is inspired by a love of nature, and concern for the environment. “No Spring Chickens…No Bad Thing” – Blues in Britain Following on from 2023’s tremendously well-received debut album, Bison Hip return on May 17th 2024 with their second album, ‘Welcome To The Rest Of Your Life’, spearheaded by the first single, ‘Parasite’, available on Friday 6th April. ‘We’ve been working towards this album almost as soon as we finished the last, we wanted to keep that momentum going’ explains vocalist Paul. Formed by long-time friends during a lockdown Zoom call in 2020, 4 of the 5 members are over 50. “We wanted the music to reflect where we are in our lives, we’re definitely getting on a bit now, but life experience has made us stronger than ever, and I think we’re right at the top of our game”. Continuing with the band ethos of real songs played by real musicians, the album is filled with those life experiences. ‘The songs are full of pain, loss, failure, disappointment, but also joy, excitement, and lots of hope. We’re getting older, but the best years aren’t behind us, they’re still to come, and we wanted that feeling in the music’. Last year was an exciting year for the band, with a host of live shows across the UK. ‘We absolutely love getting out there and showing people what we’re all about’ adds Paul. ‘It’s taken us a long time to get here, we’ve arrived fashionably late, but the wait has been worth it’. With the new album arriving soon, and plenty of live shows across the country already confirmed, 2024 looks set to announce the complete arrival of Bison Hip as a unique modern blues rock band ready to make their mark!

The Drago family band, known as Freeze time – comprised of Dad – Bud and sons Elliott and Keith, has been making music for years. Freeze Time combines a range of styles from melodic rock, neo punk and even a touch or two of grunge resulting in a sound that is different, yet familiar. Lyrically the songs touch on the usual, love won and lost, but also the topical, jobs, culture and more! Freeze Time switch on and off instruments easily - you’ll find Elliott playing bass, keyboards and singing all background vocals while Keith handles drums and lead guitar on most songs, also contributing bass as time demands! Bud plays guitar, slide guitar, sings lead and wrote most of the songs. On November 5, of 2022, Freeze Time recorded their last album, NW 8 in Studio Two at Abbey Road. In the control room were Gordon Davidson, Neil Dawes and Callum Waddington. The session was then mixed by Keith Drago and mastered by Andy Walter. Lead single from that album is “I Don’t Know what I Don’t Know.” Their most recent album, Hear & There was just released. The lead single from that album is “You’ll find Yourself Knocking.” Recorded partially in London at Bush Studios and in Pennsylvania at Range Recording, finds, as usual a mixture of fun songs, such as Yes, There’s Life on Mars and I Am a Dinosaur, pop songs, You’ve Got to Do What You’ve Got To Do, and serious songs such as I’m Here and I’m Never Giving Up On You. Born in Kansas City, MO, where his parents met while his mother was in music school, Eric Lee Brumley was raised as an only child in Little Compton, Rhode Island. Eric began singing and performing after accepting Christ at the young age of 5 years old. He and his mom would write and sing songs together. He developed a love for Elvis Presley, Motown, ‘50’s oldies, gospel, soul, and blues, largely as a result of hearing the music of his father’s favorite radio stations. Eric’s home was always filled with instruments growing up, and the support of his mother helped him to develop his voice and musical giftings. At 12 years old, Eric began playing guitar and writing his own songs, but his main focus was on working to become a pro baseball player. At the age of 15, Eric performed with The Continentals, touring the United States sharing the Gospel through their music. They finished the tour with a mission trip to Romania and Bulgaria where they ministered to thirdworld communities. It was during this trip that Eric realized the overwhelming need for missionaries in every corner of the globe. Returning home, Eric attended public school where he was distracted from his true calling by dreams of pro baseball, and by the pitfalls of alcohol and drugs. He grappled with these vices for several years, until, at the age of 18, his parents presented him with an ultimatum: move out of the house, or join a discipleship ministry. It was not an easy thing for his parents to do, but they did so in prayer, knowing that this was a crucial time in Eric’s life. Eric, making maybe the most important decision of his life, entered the ministry of Teen Challenge in Boston, Massachusetts, where he would spend the next 7 years undergoing a drastic transformation. During his residency and apprenticeship at Teen Challenge, Eric studied scripture, led choirs, ministered to men in recovery, attended Global University, and regained his sense of mission, rooted in Christ, and manifested through the use of his musical gifts. Eric’s calling and gifts helped the ministry to reach new heights, as his original songs became anthems for Teen Challenge, for recovery from addiction and sin, and for the redemptive power of Jesus Christ. It was also during his time at Teen Challenge that he met his wife, Nicole, also a Teen Challenge alumni and former staff member. After 11 years in ministry at Teen Challenge, Nicole went on to complete Zion Bible College, and receive her Master of Arts in counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Since 2008, Eric Lee Brumley has been actively performing and recording his original, gritty, soulful music in venues throughout the US, including SoulFest, HillFest, River Rock Music Festival, and many more. Eric led worship at Outreach Chapel in Everett, MA for 2 years, and is currently leading worship at Broken Chains Biker Church in Taunton, MA where he has served for the last 12 years under the leadership and guidance of Pastor Thomas Iddings. In 2011, an independent collection, Rough Cuts was recorded as a practice guide for musicians in an upcoming tour. In 2018, Eric released an independent single entitled To the Other Side with Ari Mendes. In 2019, Eric Lee Brumley was signed to Old Bear Records, the New York label that released Eric’s debut studio album, The Devil Goes Fish’n Too: A Gospel Anthology, produced by Chris Hoisington of the Brothers McClurg. From 2021-2023, Eric was the lead singer of a Chris Cornell tribute band called Say Hello II Heaven under the stage name Jericho Matthews. Eric used this platform to advance the gospel of hope by sharing his personal testimony in venues around New England. And in 2024, Eric Lee Brumley’s second full-length album, Electric Chair, was released, along with several singles including a contribution to the second volume of Bellsburg, a tribute to world-renowned Christian artist, Rich Mullins. Dom Mar KZ is proof that dreams do not have an expiry date. For more than two decades the Toronto-area singer/ songwriter has shown a remarkable level of dedication and Perseverance to his crafts, and has never given up his desire to write, record and perform music. His most recent single, “Destiny” shows how much he is able to take the essence of his own emotional trials and tribulations, joys and successes, and create a piece of music that has meaning for any listener. “I suffered some losses in my family, and ever since then I have been looking at life differently. I used to be this perfectionist where everything had to be in order; now I don’t care about that anymore. It’s about enjoying the moment and getting the best out of life in the here and now,” he said. “I think everybody feels like that at some point. The message of the song is to not take life for granted, find your passion and live your life. Even when it’s tough and even when things don’t work out, it’s alright, be optimistic. Lift yourself up, there’s always something good that can come from something bad; live life with meaning with joy and with love.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ddsgo7hqFOI (Destiny Video) Dom Mar KZ came from a supportive family where his love of music and performing was nurtured from an early age. High school was where his love of music reached its full flowering as he first enrolled in the school’s music program and then joined with other school pals to form bands that hashed out the chords and melodies o the latest radio sensations from Duran Duran, Van Halen, and the other pop and rock hit makers of the mid-1980s. After studying music at Humber College he tried his hand at the local Toronto club scene for a time, performing at some of the top city venues of the day, some of which have their names etched in the firmament of Canadian rock history, including The Gasworks, Rock and Roll Heaven, and Nag’s Head North. “It was a great time for live music in Toronto. There were lots of clubs which were always packed with people wanting to see great live music,” he said. In the 2000s, he had the good fortune of having his band, and then just called Mar KZ, open for Canadian rock luminaries Def Leppard and Honeymoon Suite. And in 2006 he got to perform in front of a packed house opening for Bon Jovi at Toronto’s Air Canada Centre, after winning a radio station contest. Less than two years later, Mar KZ was added to five dates at the end of a run through Ontario and Quebec by legendary German hard rockers, The Scorpions. “It was like a dream come true. Who wouldn’t want to open for Bon Jovi at the Air Canada Centre? It was a great time. With the Scorpions we just contacted their promoter and sent him some music. He forwarded it to their manager, he liked it and we got those shows. It was an amazing experience and with each show they were more generous to us with their lighting and sound. It was like they wanted us to prove ourselves, and I guess we did,” Mar KZ said. In 2010 Mar KZ went into the studio to record an album with Bon Jovi producer/engineer Obie O’Brien. The chance to work with top session players and recording technicians was a real eye-opening experience, one that pushed Mar KZ to raise his game as a songwriter and musician. “You just saw the professionalism with all those guys. It was outstanding. It’s such a different experience when you are playing with top session guys. Time is of the essence; there’s no fooling around. They get the job done and do it so well. It’s incredible to be around that sort of atmosphere. And you learn so much. You learn it and you take it with you and use that work ethic and attention to detail with everything you do moving forward.” Fast forward to 2016 and with the powerfully transformative experience of writing, recording and now releasing “Destiny”, Dom Mar KZ’s creative fire is burning as high and hot as it ever has, and he is focusing all his time, energy and artistry on making his musical dreams come true. Most recently, Dom has won the Akademia Award for best pop/rock music video for his song “Destiny”. Once again, it’s proof that it’s never too late to Rock and Roll. https://www.facebook.com/dommarkzmusic?mibextid=LQQJ4d https://youtube.com/@dommarkz4803?si=N030eLPT7YE1OgCh DOM MARKZ
