Easter moved to Hammond, Indiana, in 1972. Easter began her
career at Simmons Company in Munster, Indiana, where she
dedicated ten years of service. In addition, Easter dedicated 35
years of service at Cargill Company in Hammond, Indiana before
retiring in 2010.

Easter was an active member of New Community Baptist Church
for over 40 years where she faithfully served on the Usher board.
Easter was a full-time caregiver to her Mom before her transition.
Easter had a “heart of gold” and a spirit of giving and caring.

Easter was proceeded in death by her father, Leamon Johnson;
sister, Claudette Johnson; niece, Ursula Johnson; and husband Leo
Gross Sr. Easter leaves to cherish her memories; two sons, Leo
(Janet) Gross Jr, of Oklahoma City, OK and Anthony Carl Gross of
Tallahassee, FL; two daughters: Aunsnette (Ronnie) Sims of
Canton, Mississippi and Debra (Anthony) Merritt of Farmington
Hills, MI; eight grandchildren: Antione Gross, Leo Gross III, Jayla
Gross, Ryan Gross, Jelesa Gross, China Gross, Rashaad Gross, and
Danielle Merritt; three great-grand: Skylar, Kennedy, and Luna;
one brother: Tyrone Johnson of Oklahoma City, OK; and a host of
aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and special friends.

Obituary

Easter Bell Gross was born to Leamon Johnson and Lucille
Johnson on November 11, 1945, in Canton, Mississippi. She
married Leo Gross Sr, in 1962. This union was blessed with three
children.

Easter graduated from Canton Public School in 1965 and
attended Jackson State University. She enjoyed working in her
yard, being around family and friends, walking with friends, and
beautifying whatever her hands touched.
