Celebrating The Best in Indian Hospitality, A story of Revival,
Revitalisation, Reimagining and Resilience

The hospitality industry is one where you are conditioned to serve, whatever role you may decide on. In an
atmosphere where service is king, pressure to perform is very often intense which means those on top need to
keep encouraging those they look out for, to give their best day in and day out.
It is very important to be able to reward those who are consistently performing well and pushing the envelope of
what is expected further and further towards perfection. When this means they are also recognised by their betters
and peers in the industry, the feeling is just impossible to match.
For the last five years, BW HOTELIER has been working towards recognising the high performance champions of
the hospitality space in India. The BW HOTELIER Indian Hospitality Awards, which turned five this year, has been a
platform of recognition where juries from across the country meet and decide on who are the deserving winners
of the award. It will be the good cheer for the resilient leaders of Indian Hospitality and bring them good luck.
“Enthusiasm is common. Endurance is rare.”
- Angela Duckworth
Indian Hospitality will endure and endear as we start September 2020 and IHA will be the harbinger of good luck
and a knowledge platform that will guide and help the community of hospitality.

Reimagining hospitality and reimagining the way we recognise the best in
Indian hospitality; being a part of the IHA Awards 2020 has been incredible.
To quash massive challenges thrown in by the pandemic and successfully
host India's largest hospitality awards completely online is no-mean-feat.
BW has supported my vision for ISH since day one, and it’s been a privilege
to collaborate this year as Knowledge Partner. The industry at large
appreciated the theme chosen by BW for this year's awards. Truly deserving
nominations - the best in the business, have been felicitated. The jurors
ensured that evaluation was based entirely on the merit of nominations and
I must compliment the academic and student body at ISH for working
meticulously and completely revolutionizing the evaluation process. We
have used global best practices and rubrics and the new system that has
been created will serve as a benchmark for not just hospitality, but other service industries as well.
I founded the Indian School of Hospitality to bring in a new era of education to India that helps prepare exceptional
and entrepreneurial talent for the industry. The landscape needed an overhaul and a push to reach newer heights –
to take an active role in solving shortcomings and foster growth, progress and potential. I think BW has been

hour and giving a platform to those leading change in hospitality. It’s created a community of industry movers and
shakers who are in turn inspiring and guiding the next generation of talent for our ecosystem – and I am delighted
to have ISH and our students associate with BW and the people surrounding the BW brand. We have co-created so
much more value in this year’s edition of the awards.
I believe the 'Indian Hospitality Awards' is an incredible platform to reward those who have been working tirelessly
to elevate India’s position in the global hospitality landscape and to show the upcoming generation that passion,
perseverance and hard work do pay off – and I look forward to our own ISH students accepting their own awards
on-stage one day very soon. India has contributed immensely to the growth of the global hospitality sector. While
my peers and I have helped raise the industry to a place where it could run alongside global competition, I think the
new generation of students that ISH is helping raise will be the cohort who shall truly make Indian hospitality shine
further.

BW HOTELIER has outdone itself by reiterating its stand in solidarity with the hospitality industry. It has acquired
not only a pole position in organising the Indian Hospitality Awards and Summit (IHA), despite the lockdown and

the entire hotel industry looks forward to. This edition is unique as it comes at a time when the industry is in the
midst of its worst ever crisis. The ongoing Covid pandemic is unprecedented. India is currently in phase three of
unlock. Hotels that were shut for several months have been allowed to re-commence operations but it’s a long and
tough journey to recovery that awaits them.
It is very satisfying to see that the industry has used the crisis as an opportunity and evolved quickly. Instead of
thinking too much about how the post-pandemic world will unfold, Indian hotels have kept themselves busy and
relevant by innovating. From offering recipes and culinary tips on their social media handles to home delivery of their
signature dishes, hotels are using technology for rendering contact free services. Hotels have curated ‘staycations’

As the President of IFCA, I am incredibly proud to be a part of this event representing the network of Chefs that we
are. It has been a rough year for all of us. IFCA has been consistently focusing on young chefs and seasoned chefs
alike in their development and career growth. IHA gives us hope even in these uncertain times, inspiring hospitality

I am delighted to know that BW HOTELIER rewards vital hospitality mavens across all the departments in the hospi-
tality industry, who have gone above and beyond for their customers and patrons. Our industry shines due to
outstanding relentless efforts and contributions of these superheroes. These awards presented to individuals who
embody the spirit of hospitality, set the standard for customer service, will certainly boost morale of employees
during the current time.
April 2020 onwards travel, and hospitality industry has been going through quite a tough time. No other unforeseen
event in these decades has impacted the hospitality industry as much as Covid-19. It has substantially affected all
businesses and individuals across the globe.
Hospitality industry started with ‘bed’, later with time, it took to looking into guest needs ‘bath’, ’breakfast’ and
‘banquets’ etc. Our industry added more technology related ‘Bs’ like, ‘business analytics’, ‘big data’, business intel-
ligence, bots/ robots and ‘blockchain’ advanced our industry. Then came ‘D’ disruption done by various e-commerce
and digital companies like Airbnb, OYO, Treebo, Fabhotels and many other OTA’s like MMT, Agoda, Booking.com,

that ‘C’ also stands for contactless, continuity, and continuous improvement. I am quite hopeful that together we
will soon overcome these strange times and our industry will bounce back soon.
I am sure that travel and hospitality professionals will learn a lot from the wide range of well curated panel discus-
sions. Global Hospitality Technology Professionals (GHTP) is glad to support and associate with BW HOTELIER IHA
2020, the Indian Hospitality Summit and Awards. GHTP is happy to collaborate with BW HOTELIER and together
can show the way forward for the hospitality industry to survive, revive and grow. I compliment BW HOTELIER for
focusing on the hospitality sector and the initiatives for its development and innovations.
