Chapters 1-8
In chapters 1-8 of Tuck Everlasting, it describes how Winnie Foster meets the Tucks.
Winnie lives in an overprotective house in the village of Treegap with her parents and
grandmother.Their house is on the edge of the woods they own but never go into.
The Tucks are getting excited to see their sons whom they have not seen in ten years. Mae is
heading off to meet them, but they say that she has to be careful not to be seen. She does not
look in the mirror before she goes because it says she has looked the same for the past 87
years. May takes along her music box as she goes off to meet her sons. Winnie has a
conversation with a toad. She talks about how hard her life is and she decides to run away.
That night Winnie heads out to her yard and meets a stranger walking by who asks her about
the woods and the people she knows in the area. He tells her that he is looking for a family.
Winnie’s grandmother comes out to tell Winnie to go inside. Just then some music is heard in
the woods. The grandmother says it is the elf music she hasn’t heard in years. Winnie thinks it
sounds like a music box and the stranger is very interested. Winnie sneaks out of her house
and goes into the woods to see where the music came from. She spots jessie on a tree that
has a spring coming out from its roots. She sees him take a drink and then starts a
conversation with him. She asks for a drink but jesse tries to stop her. Mae tuck and Miles
comes up. Winnie insist on a drink. The tucks grabbed her and threw her onto there horse. The
Tucks were just as alarmed as winnie and did there best to calm her down. Winnie is
surprisingly calm about the whole situation. They passed the man and the yellow suit and Mae
tuck says there just teaching there daughter how to ride, for some reason winnie doesn't
scream and ask him for help. Winnie begins to comprehend what just happened and starts
crying. Mae tuck hands it to Winnie to hopefully help her calm down. The tucks tell winnie there
story. The Tucks and there horse each took a drink from the spring except there cat. Pa carved
a T on the tree. They came out of the forest finally and set up some homes. Jesse fell on a tree
and landed straight on his head. The cats all die but all of the Tucks and even the horse go
threw experiences that should have killed them. They finally figure out the reason they aren't
changing is because of the spring. Winnie Foster is dumbfounded and amazed at the story. The
tucks feel great after telling her they continue to there home and eat breakfast on the way. The
man in the yellow suit was nearby and heard everything.

What does the reader learn from the epilogue in this novel? Do
you think the epilogue was necessary?
I believe the epilogue was necessary so that we now that Winnie

Chapters 18-25
They had flapjacks for breakfast since Winnie and miles didn't get any fish. They get a knock on
the door and go to answer it and it turns out to be the stranger.
He says that he's here to take Winnie back home and Angus Tuck says that Winnie hasn't been
in any danger. The stranger says he wants to talk to the tucks. He tells them that he heard
stories from his grandmother about a family that lived forever, his grandmother was a friend of
Miles's old wife. Later on, he gifts his grandmother a music box that reminds her of the mother of
the family. His grandmother taught him the tune and he goes on with his life. He decides to go
searching for the family and heard Maes music box from the woods. He tells them how he
followed them heard the story and stole their horse. He tells them how he owns the woods and
how he's going to sell the spring water. He gives them the offer of being examples for selling the
water by doing things that would normally be fatal. The tucks are dumbfounded and immediately
decline. The tucks yell at him because he's going to let the secret out (and probably ruin the
world). He takes Winnie by force and is going to force her to drink some spring water to be a
demonstration. Mae picks up tucks old shotgun and shoots the stranger right as the constable
comes.
The man is on the ground unconscious. The constable has his shotgun in his hands and is
currently yelling at Mae, she tells him he was going to take Winnie against her will. Winnie tells
the constable that she went with the tucks because she wanted to. The constable takes Me into
custody and says she's getting the gallows if the stranger does not survive. He takes Winnie and
Mae to tree gap on a horse.
The constable brings her home and Winnie tells her family that she went of her own free will but
they won't believe her. Her family tucks her into bed, Winnie thinks if the stranger needs to die or
not. She hears the constable talking to her family and saying that the stranger died.
The next day she goes out to the yard. She spots the toad and asks her granny if she can give it
some water. The toad hops off before they can. Jesse comes by to Winnie and says they have a
plan to get me out. Winnie offers to take Mae's place in the jailhouse. Winnie's grandmother calls
her inside.
Winnie's family goes to bed and Winnie waits for midnight. Why she waits she thinks because
she is about to commit a felony. It's finally midnight and Winnie gets up.
She leaves the surprisingly easy house. She finds Jesse and they go to the jailhouse.
Miles slowly takes out nails one by one. They take off the window and Mae crawls out.
Winnie crawls in through the window taking Mae's place. When Winnie hears Maes
music box she knows they left.
It's been two weeks since the night and Winnie is thinking. She remembers how angry the
constable was at her and how her family asked her why she did it. The fosters are even
more protective of Winnie now and rarely let her go anywhere without them, some kids
have started to talk to her. She spots the toad being bothered by a dog. She shoos the
dog away and decides the pour the water from the spring o
I believe that Winnie Foster is a
curious kid, we see that when she

I believe that Jesse tuck is a playful sort,
I believe this because in the book he
can be seen teasing MIles.

Throughout the novel the tone was mostly
peaceful; however, at the climax it became
melancholy.
The toad is a symbol in the story because it keeps reappearing
between parts of the book and we even see it for a short time in
the epilogue
The theme is definitely about change and how it
makes life life.
