techniques. The spear has been used as a weapon to hunt lions. Today it symbolise one of
the greatest wildlife stories of our day: the story of a courageous warrior who use his skill,
knowledge and bravery to protect rather than to hunt the majestic lion.
Lions and elephants feature throughout this spear to depict power and mightiness of the
animal kingdom. Traditional motifs and techniques such as meenakari and repousse were
used to create the regal metal work.

on the island. The Intendance beach in front of the resort is one of the main nesting beaches on the island
and the Banyan Tree Seychelles conservation team does frequent patrols on the beach to monitor sea turtle
nesting activities. Two different species are nesting on the beach; Hawksbill and Green turtles. During the
main nesting season female Hawksbill turtles can be observed emerging from the sea to crawl up the beach
and lay their eggs. The conservation team locates all nests and monitors them for two months to ensure
successful hatching. If nests are observed in unsafe zones; close to high tide line, prone to flooding, eggs
are dug up to be relocated to a safer zone.
Banyan Tree Seychelles also boasts a wetland site, where two endangered species of Fresh water turtles can
be found; Black mud terrapin and Yellow-bellied terrapin. Much effort is placed into the capture of these
fresh water turtles with the main aim of individual identification of each through a picture of their plastron
which is unique for each individual, this helps Banyan Tree Seychelles to reach the objective of being able
to establish the population size of these species.

DENIS PRIVATE ISLAND invites visitors to experience the charms of a natural paradise – one in which
the island shapes every aspect of the hotel, its cuisine, décor and conservation programmes. With only
25 freestanding cottages and villas, the island is a living, breathing community, with guests able to explore
