About our logo INSIGHTS

Our logo unifies and embodies our organization. The logo The Official Publication of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Region III
type is a combination mark wherein an emblem is used to
represent the whole logo. Volume 17 No. 2 AprilA–pJruinl—e 2Ju0n1e62016

At the heart of the logo is the acronym of the Department,
DILG, written in black for easy recognition and as strong
manifestation of its steadfast commitment to promote
peace and order, ensure public safety, and strengthen the
capability of local governments.

The said acronym is prominently placed over the Map
of the Philippines at the center, representing the country’s
national territory and comprising all local government
units which are under the general supervision of the

Department. The people corresponds to the eighteen (18) regions of the country, including the
Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) and the Negros Island Region (NIR). While
the shield completing the circle represents the interior sector or the peace and order and
public safety sectors. The two symbols are placed alternately to underscore the need for both
sectors to work together and bring peaceful and progressive communities to the country.

LITTLE KNOWN ABOUT THE PRESIDENT DUTERTE

Did you know that despite the fact that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte may not 2 INSIGHTS 15
be mestizo-looking, he has a certified Spanish and Chinese pedigree, with roots
originating from Cebu.

The Dutertes of Cebu were part of alta sociedad and are scions of a Spanish
bloodline. The President’s super lola was Dionisia Duterte, also known as
Francisca, was unmarried but bore a son with Maximo Veloso del Rosario,
a wealthy Chinese mestizo landowner.

Two of the inseparable items (charms, to some) considered ‘valuable’ to the
President’s heart, according to urban legend, are the exact mat (banig) where he
was born and the tail of stingray (ikog sa pagi) which he used to discipline
offenders during his mayoralty.
