On Court with George Husk
We had a very busy indoor season last month as we experienced a true NC winter, unseen in
recent years. If you were part of an indoor contract or played in one of our Ladies Super 8
Indoor Leagues this winter, I’m sure you are glad you did!
We have 4 more weeks of indoor contracts left before we move outdoors for tennis and
George Husk pickleball play. On the event side, we have a sold-out Valentines Tennis/PB Mixer on the
indoor courts Friday, February 18, which will be followed by a great Valentine-themed diner
Director of Racquet Sports at the Clubhouse.
We’ll be hosting our first Junior Tournament of the year Feb. 25-27. This tournament will be open to all players in the Lake
Norman area. Contact Yaser Zaatini for more information on these Junior and Adult tournament events.
Mark your calendars for two great events coming up in March. March 11-13 is our Spring UTR Tennis Tournament, and March
25-26 is the World Cup of Pickleball Tournament.
The outdoor courts will be very active with USTA Spring tennis this year. We have 13 USTA teams registered, which is 3 more
teams than last year. Although most teams have set player rosters, sometimes teams need an extra player. If you are interested
in getting on a team, please e-mail me at [email protected].
Our Summer Jr. Tennis Camp schedule is out. See the flyer in this month’s newsletter. We will have 2 camps per month June –
August. Simply scan the QR Code on the flyer with a smartphone and register your kid(s) for as many camps as you need.
We started registering players for the newly formed Queen City North Pickleball League. The league will play on Saturdays at
3:00 pm, starting March 5. We can add players to our team rosters until February 18. See our flyer in this months’ newsletter.
I am excited to announce that we will be offering Open Play Pickleball on Friday afternoons from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm starting
Friday, February 11 for 3.0 - 4.0+ level players. Open Play is one of the most popular playing formats for pickleball in the USA.
You simply show up anytime during Open Play and find a game with similar-level players. All 6 courts will be reserved for
Open Play during this time frame on Fridays. All you need to do is show up, put your name on our new Pickleball Signup
Board, and see how much fun it can be to find a game with other members. Try it and we know you're gonna love it!
Our new professional/heavy-duty Pickleball nets are starting to get some good use. Our members are thrilled, as they provide a
truly professional playing experience. We look forward to seeing you every day at the Racquet and Sports Center!
See you on the courts!

RJ Murray Hello River Run Families,
Academy Director I hope everyone's Winter is going well and everybody got to enjoy the snow last month without
hurting themselves! It was fun while it lasted; but hopefully, the snow is behind us for the season.
We are currently a month into our Winter II session, and the courts are packed with kids during
the week, which we love to see. We still have some space open in our Red, Orange, and Green ball
groups if anyone is looking to join mid-session. Email us at [email protected]. We
also offer daily drop-in rates for all groups, so feel free to have the kids try out a clinic anytime to
see if they have fun.
Our current Winter II session ends March 11th and then we will start our 10 week Spring session on March 21st.
Registration is available for the Spring session on the member website. With Spring right around the corner, I would like
to say good luck to our Tournament Team players with their upcoming USTA events, middle school tennis, and high
school tennis seasons. The Spring is a very busy time for these kids and I know all the hard work they've put in over the
Winter is going to pay off!

Cool Kids Club
About the CKC I developed this program in March of 2020. It started with a small vision that has blossomed over time.
It started with a few event nights a month and has grown to our CKC Preschool, a Rising Star
program, and Summer Camps that accommodate 30 children daily. We also host Winter and Summer
passport programs where we accommodate 25 children per event, as well as dance classes, tumble
classes beginning this Spring, afternoon care, special holiday events, and so much more!
We have two lead teachers, Rose and Mariah, and one assistant teacher, Kaiyah (Kai). Rose also assists
me with day-to-day activities and behind-the-scenes work. I am truly honored as a Director to work
side by side with these ladies.
Jess Ash The CKC room where we host preschool is located at the Racquet and Sports Center. We offer
Director of Child Development preschool for children 18 months - 5 years of age. For ages 18 months - 2 years, we focus on fine motor
skills, words of everyday life (water, more, please, thank you, seat, table, and body parts), color
Founder of the CKC recognition, and stories to really engage the children. With this age group, we focus more on hands-on
activities.
For the 3-5 year-olds, we start to engage with numbers, letters, and phonetics. This includes tracing letters/numbers, using the sounds of
the letters, and counting to 20. We also work on patterns, organization, manners, using their existing knowledge and broadening it.
We have a program called "Rising Stars" that focuses on our transitioning Kindergarteners. This is only for 4 and 5-year-olds. During
this time, we work at their level and get them to kindergarten standards and beyond. We work more one-on-one, and have the children
learn at their own pace. The kindergarten standards include writing first and last name, writing and recognizing numbers 1-10 and all
letters, how to sound out words, simple addition, tying shoes, and much more! We work off of the K12 learning curriculum. There is
also a PE piece that we do during this time to teach the children about simple body anatomy and what parts of their bodies they are
using during certain exercises.
We are so blessed to work with these children each and every day and be able to enrich their lives and their minds.
