Tennis News

George Husk On Court with George Husk
Director of Racquet Sports We are extremely excited to host the 19th annual | 2022 Dr. Raymond Haigney | RRCC Tennis

Pro-Am Event | September 9 - 11. The Pro-Am is the highlight tennis event for our members.
The 3-day tennis extravaganza begins with the Friday night "Meet the Pros Cocktail Party,"
where the members will meet all the visiting pros with whom they will play over the weekend.
On Saturday night, everyone will head to the Main Clubhouse adorned in Street Couture
attire as we host our very first Met Gala at River Run Country Club. The paparazzi will be
capturing our members as they enter the red carpet event of the year! Our Met Gala theme is
"NYC Street Couture."
Entertainment for the evening will be 80s band sensation SPANK! We cannot wait to see everyone dressed in NYC Street
to glamorous fashion styles. You can register to play and party on the Member Website beginning Thursday, August 4.
I would like to thank our Title Sponsor, Dr. Ray and Kimberly Haigney, and all of our returning sponsors, who allow us to
make the Tennis Pro-Am one of the highlight Club events of the year. To this end, if you are interested in sponsoring the
Pro-Am, we have a few spots available. Please contact George at [email protected] for more information.
In other news, we have completed the installation of 54 new pop-up sprinkler heads on all 9 clay courts. These sprinklers
provide superior court hydration and coverage and eliminate safety hazards on the courts. In addition, 4 of our 9 clay
courts have been fully resurfaced with 10 tons of new clay material each. This is 5 times the amount of clay we typically put
down each year. This 10-ton process creates a brand-new playing surface, which our members will love to play on. The
remainder of the courts should be completed the week of August 8, weather permitting.
Later this month, we are planning to clean and repaint the interior walls of the indoor tennis facility. These improvements
will completely clean and refresh the look of our indoor tennis facility. The project is scheduled for August 12 - 19.
Don't miss our next Tennis and Pickleball 4D Night | Friday, August 26, as we celebrate the start of the US Open Tennis
Championships with a NY Steak dinner and our traditional Black Out theme, where everyone wears all-black tennis attire!
Looking ahead, September will be busy with league play from USTA and the LKN Clay Court League. This fall, River Run
will have 12 (3 more than 2021) USTA and 6 CCL teams, with over 200 members playing in these leagues!
Pickleball continues to grow at River Run. We have introduced many new players to the sport, with our Pickleball 101
clinics. Our next clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, August 10 | 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. You can register for all of our clinics

junior tennis academy

River Run Families,

I hope everybody has had a great summer and is getting ready for school to start back up soon. Our

fall 2022 schedule is online right now on the member website, and you can find the registration form

here. The times for all programs will be the same as they have been for the last year, so no changes to

the schedule! For any additional questions regarding junior tennis programs, please email us at

[email protected]. I hope to see some new and familiar faces back out on the

RJ Murray courts soon!

I would like to give a huge shout to some of the Tournament Team players. For this newsletter, I
Academy Director want to put a spotlight on Wyatt Fleming, Isabella Hartung, Ava Lewis, and Nick Mangiapane for

some great results lately.

Wyatt Fleming recently picked up the best win of his singles career in a USTA L5 Boy's 16's event in Rome Georgia. Wyatt

has really committed to his tennis over the last 6 months, putting in countless hours on the court and in the gym, so it comes

as no surprise that the results would follow. Way to go, Wyatt, let's keep that momentum rolling in your upcoming events.

My next shoutouts go to Nick Mangiapane, Ava Lewis, and Isabella Hartung who just competed in the USTA L1 National

Clay Court Championships.

USTA L1's are the most prestigious junior tournaments in the United States and it takes so many years of hard work to even

qualify for these events so it's an incredible achievement just to get in. Isabella Hartung lost two incredibly hard-fought

singles matches 7-6,7-6 and 7-6,6-3 to some really tough opponents but we could not be prouder of the effort she gave in

those matches. Ava Lewis picked up two wins in Singles in the Girl's 14 and under division including the best win of her life

in the first round. Ava also got the invaluable experience of playing the #6 ranked girl in the country and was right there

with her and had some serious chances to win the second set so that was great to see Ava's game is right there with the best

players in the country. The last shoutout goes to Nick Mangiapane who played 11 matches in the Boy's 18's including winning

4 singles matches and advancing to the quarter-finals of the Boy's 18's doubles draw. Unfortunately, there is no time to rest as

The USTA L1 Boy's and Girl's National Hard Court Championships begin on August 5th so the kids will have another

opportunity soon to go and build on their success from National Clays. Good luck to them as well as all the Tournament

Team Players competing in various events all over the state and country the rest of the Summer!

The Benefits of Running When You're Young

Children see many of the same benefits of running as adults like improved sleep, increased self-

esteem and confidence, and decreased risk of health issues.

Physical activity, like running, for kids can improve concentration, grades, and test scores.

Having confidence in trying something new, sticking to a routine, and the ability to set and

Dear Members,

It has been a pleasure working here
at River Run for the past 9 years. I
have enjoyed getting to know so
many of you, watching your children
grow, sharing in your happiness and
also the tough times that we all
experience in this thing called life!
I'm sad to say that I have decided to
leave River Run, it was not an easy
decision to make. My dad and step-
mom are aging, and I need more time
to help care for them; therefore, I
have accepted a remote position with
a company called PlaneSense.

I will be working in the Flight Operations Department as an Operational Support
Specialist, specifically assisting the pilots with scheduling hotel rooms, rental cars,
crew meals and airline flights. It will be fun to get back to my aviation roots! I'm
looking forward to this new opportunity, but will miss all of you tremendously!
Warm Regards,
Dawn Wight
