2017–2018 ANNUAL REPORT
Thanks to you...
e Blue Ribbon Schools program, established in 1982, honors public and private schools, measuring continued academic excellence or dramatic improvements in student accomplishments at high levels. Private schools, as a minimum, must consistently rank in the top ten percent of the nation on nationally standardized tests.
A er earning the Blue Ribbon in 1986 and 2007, 2018 marks the third year that Christ the King School has been honored with this prestigious award. We congratulate everyone who worked toward this achievement, and we give special recognition to Patricia Ward. rough 29 years of dedicated service as a teacher and administrator, Tricia has cultivated the mission of our institution to nurture the whole child. In her nal year as principal before embarking on a well-earned retirement, Mrs. Ward and her team worked diligently to complete the US Department of Education application for CKS to be designated a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.
With grateful hearts, we thank Tricia for her leadership, and we wish her a joyful retirement.
Dear Christ the King School Community:
It is with great appreciation that we share this Annual Report which documents the generous support provided to our school during the 2017-18 school year. Since 1937, our school has made a di erence in the lives of generations of students.
CKS stands strong today. Enrollment continues to
be outstanding. Our balance sheet is positive. e teachers and sta are dedicated to our Catholic mission. e students are polite, academically skilled and faith- lled. God continues to bless our school community in so many ways.
Over the next year, construction will continue on the Hyland Center which promises to provide an 21st Century facility for both the parish and the school. is is an exciting time for our campus as we adjust to construction vehicles, increased noise and the lack of instructional, athletic and gathering places.
But, the future of Christ the King School is very bright. Eachday, thebrightfacesofourstudents answer our prayers because our community is not only constructing a facility, but building Catholic scholars who will lead our faith for many generations to come. In so many ways, our Catholic school is not only preparing children for further education but providing the foundation to our young people to lead our faith, our businesses and our government. We hope that our Catholic education instills Gospel values like mercy, compassion and fairness into the lives of our students today and for decades to come.
Academics are the focus of every school. Student achievement is the measure of academic success. By every measure of student achievement, CKS is so successful. Our 8th graders are quali ed and prepared for the rigorous programs at the best schools in Atlanta, including Marist and St. Pius. e administrators at those schools report that our students are high school ready and prepared to be Catholic and academic leaders.
Our school is an important part of our parish life. Christ is the center of life at CKS. We pray together each day, thanking God for the opportunity to be a part of such a vibrant Catholic community.
Christ the King is not an institution isolated from the world. Our community is immersed in Buckhead andtheAtlantaarea. Ourstudentsdevelopasenseof purpose at our school and learn that service to others isimportantandrewarding. Ourparentsareso generous as volunteers in the school, modeling service to their children while making our local community more compassionate and civil.
Everything we do at our school is made possible by the generosity of our community including parents, faculty, sta , grandparents, past parents, alumni and friends. Last year 581 donors invested $482,337, including $422,512 to the Annual Fund. On top
of this incredible amount the Gala and PVA raised $268,574. As if this wasn’t enough, the Cathedral and school raised another $28,000,000 towards our new Hyland Center.
Our school is well positioned for a bright future, thanks to the generosity of our community.
On behalf of our school community and the students we serve, please accept our sincere appreciation.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Monsignor Frank McNamee Rector

ANNUAL FUND
With gratitude we recognize the following donors who have generously given to the Christ the King School Annual Fund during the 2017-2018 school year. Gi s to the Annual Fund are critical components of the school's operating budget, supplying day-to-day costs that tuition alone does not cover. Your contribution lls the nancial gap where tuition ends, and our mission begins.

NCEA DA Y OF GIVING
NCEA DAY OF GIVING: MANY GIFTS, ONE NATION
Twenty years ago, Saint Pope John Paul II said to an audience of Catholic educators in New Orleans: “Yours is a great gi to the Church, a great gi to your nation.” Catholic schools provide families with gi s that endure long a er a child has graduated. However, as children and families move beyond their school years, they may lose the connection they once had to their schools. e National Catholic Educational Association’s (NCEA) Day of Giving, this year themed Many Gi s, One Nation, presented the opportunity for families to be reminded of their Catholic school roots, and give back to the institutions that provided them with so much. e inaugural NCEA Day of Giving took place during Catholic Schools Week, January 28th -February 3rd, 2018.
Christ the King School recognizes the value of a well-rounded education that includes development of creative thinking skills through the arts. rough the funds raised during Many Gi s, One Nation, we purchased a new piano for our students. With gratitude, we recognize the individuals who took this opportunity to support the school that nurtures the hearts, minds, and souls of so many.

GRACE SCHOLARS
In 2008, the State of Georgia passed the Private School Education Tax Credit Act, giving Georgians the chance to divert a portion of their existing tax obligation toward need-based private school scholarhsips. To utlize this opportunity, the Archdiocese of Atlanta partnered with GRACE Scholars, a state quali ed Catholic Student Scholarship Organization (SSO). Many
thanks to the individuals who chose to diverted tax obligation.

SISTER MARY CLEMENT SOCIETY FOR PLANNED GIVING
Christ the King School’s Sister Mary Clement Society for Planned Giving was formed to provide a nancial or estate planning vehicle for donors interested in supporting the school’s future through the endowment fund. Formally established in January, 2005, this fund was created to control the rate of tuition increases, provide for teacher continuing education, and fund student scholarships. For those who feel that the school made
a positive impact on their lives or the lives of the children and grandchildren, naming the school as a bene ciary in their estate plans allows them a way to recognize those gi s and invest in the future of the school. With gratitude, we recognize the individuals who have made provisions for the school in their estate plans.
