KOLLEL-JOURNAL-FINAL UPDATED

KOLLEL-JOURNAL-FINAL UPDATED

5 Adar 1 5776
February 14, 2016

Honored Rabbonim, Supporters and Friends,

Limud haTorah binds a person to Hashem and catapults him into His sphere. This uplifting feeling also envelopes
us upon entering the portals of the Kollel Bais Medrash. For giving us the ability to detach from the mundane
world, we thank Hashem constantly. Tonight, Hashem has provided a different mechanism with which to
disengage from the daily grind and connect to Him - Rav Moshe Tuvia Lieff. A renowned talmid chochom,
blessed with the ability to deliver Hashem's message in a most pristine fashion, Rav Lieff's presence brings honor
to Torah, the Kollel and the community.

Nineteen years of limud haTorah in the Beachwood - University Heights community is sufficient cause for
celebration. Daily, the enjoyment increases as we witness streets filled with people headed to the Kollel and shuls
for davening, learning and connecting to Hashem. With Hashem's help, upon the completion of the Kollel's new
edifice, kvod Shomayim will be further enhanced.

The Kollel is a most fitting tribute to its namesake - my Father, the Telzer Rosh HaYeshiva HaRav Chaim
Mordechai Katz zt'l. As the co-builder of the Cleveland Torah community, he would be so proud to see authentic
Torah thriving upon the foundation he built. Although over fifty years have passed, my Father's indelible mark on
the Cleveland Torah scene has been fortified by the Kollel's influence.

The Avreichim's devotion to limud haTorah and tikun hamidos is the engine that drives the Kollel and the
community. Their focus on the development of each individual they encounter and their wives' commitment to a
wholesome Torah family environment is much appreciated and a worthwhile goal to emulate. A sincere desire for
communal Torah growth is clearly evident by the support of the community at large - led by gracious benefactors
who view this responsibility as a personal mission. May Hashem grant us all the ultimate brocho of seeing
genuine Torah nachas from our children and grandchildren.

Tonight, we commit to rededicate ourselves to instill into the hearts of our brethren the concept that limud
haTorah and shmiras hamitzvos are the essence of life. Words have not been created to express our proper
gratitude to Hashem - our continued efforts will illustrate our true thanks.

HAGAON HARAV CHAIM MORDECHAI KATZ ZT’L

The Rosh HaYeshiva zt’l, a giant in Torah scholarship and
leadership, built the Torah citadel of Telshe in Cleveland with
his brother-in-law, Hagaon Harav Elya Meir Bloch zt’l.
Together, they also wrote the blueprint and the goals for a city
which would respect Torah and aspire for continued growth in
Yiddishkeit and Torah knowledge.

Kollel Yad Chaim Mordechai endeavors to follow in the
Rosh HaYeshiva’s footsteps as an institution with a succinct
Torah atmosphere, which embraces the total community and
makes everyone feel comfortable.

HAGAON HARAV PESACH STEIN ZT’L

The wisdom, guidance and encouragement of the Rosh
Yeshiva zt’l spearheaded the establishment of Kollel Yad
Chaim Mordechai in Elul 5756.

The first evening of the Kollel’s existence merited the
appearance of Reb Pesach zt’l, in which he extolled the virtues
of pure Torah for a community. In subsequent years, Reb
Pesach’s shiur to the Kollel was consequential to everyone’s
Torah development and a highlight which will be cherished
forever. The Rosh Yeshiva’s demeanor and warmth made the
ride of life palatable.

Following on the path and agenda which Reb Pesach zt’l
set before the Kollel will be his legacy and memory.

In around the year 1985, the first Kollel opened up in the city of Ramot,
Yerusholayim, an area then completely irreligious.

Gedolei HaDor, Roshei Yeshivos, Rabbonim and many people attended
the opening reception for the Kollel. The keynote speaker was HaGaon Rav
Yaakov Kamenetzky zt”l. R’ Yaakov quoted the posuk (Bereishis 18, 21) “I will
descend and see…” to scrutinize the actions of the people of Sedom. R’ Yaakov
asked, “Where do we see in the pesukim that Hashem in reality went down to
see their actions?” He answered that sending two malochim to the city fulfilled
this statement, explaining that malochim going to a place is tantamount to the
Shechina going there. Therefore, the inhabitant’s true essences will be
understood based on their reaction to the Shechina’s presence.

R’ Yaakov continued: opening a Kollel in a city brings down the
Shechina to that city - through the Torah, Avoda and Chesed which is
synonymous with a Kollel. He concluded with a Brocha that the Shechina
should turn around the whole city. Indeed, today the city of Ramot is a religious
city, filled with many Torah institutions.

We very much recognize and appreciate Kollel Yad Chaim
Mordechai/Beachwood-University Heights Kollel for their tremendous Torah,
Harbotzas Torah, Avoda and Chesed they impart to the community, as well as
being a catalyst to bringing down the Shechina in our midst and as a result,
bestowing upon us Brocha and Hatzlocha in Ruchniyus and Gashmiyus.

May the Source of all Brochos Bentch you and the Kollel with continued
strength, health, and Parnosa BeRevach to enable you to continue your holy
work and see much Nachas from all the efforts you exert.

May we all be Zoche together to the coming of Moshiach soon in our
days.

Dear Rabbi Katz,
It is a special privilege to greet the Kollel on its 19th anniversary in our community.
The Beachwood - University Heights Kollel has transformed our community over
the last 19 years, causing Talmud Torah to become part of the life of so many of our
community. At this point it is hard to imagine the Beachwood- University Heights
community without the ongoing work of the Kollel. May the Kollel continue to
have success in the coming year and in the years to come.
