PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Fall Has Arrived! Laurie Wilhoit

Ican’t believe how quickly the fall arrived this year! At the time of writing this letter, we haven’t
held our Love Fund Auction yet - so I do not have the numbers or pictures to include. We are so
thankful that you take the time to read our publication and participate in our organization.

We had a great volunteer opportunity in September serving dinner at Emmaus House, and are currently
hosting our drives for undergarments for children (October), Thanksgiving dinners for families in
need (November), and holiday helpers and adopt a family (December). We know how busy life is, and
appreciate your support through your time, talents and treasures. As some of you know, I was a member
of this organization for 8 years (membership dues and donations) before attending my first event.

I love this organization and the amazing people I am fortunate to work
with every day. Please consider helping with an upcoming event or joining
our board. Please contact me with any questions (email below).

Thank you for your support and we look forward to a great 2019!
Cheers to you!

GRANTS

GRANT SPOTLIGHT - TWICE AS NICE MOTHER & CHILD

Twice As Nice Mother & Child is a first time CWC grant recipient that fits our
mission perfectly. This Gurnee IL based organization distributes diapers and
other basic baby care needs at no cost to families in need. They do this through
agencies or directly through mobile diaper pantries throughout Lake County. In 2017
the organization donated 200,000 diapers to local familes.

Many people do not realize that safety net programs like WIC cannot be used to buy diapers so buying the 10-12 diapers
needed a day by the average infant can be a struggle. This averages between $80-100 per month per child.

Started by Ann Marie Mathis in her basement, the organization has evolved from just diapers to supply additional items such
as wipes, formula and gently used clothes. Ann Marie says their programs “have restored stability and hope to Lake County
families during challenging time. Our programs enable parents to care for their children safely and with dignity.”

Twice As Nice Mother & Child received a $2000 grant from the
CWC this spring which they will use to purchase these vital items for
families in our area.

If you would like to learn more about this organization you can visit

Fall Into Giving
Tighty-Whitie Drive

There is something you are wearing right now that you never give
a second thought to as you start your day . . . Underwear and
Undergarments. Foster children often find themselves in need
of life’s necessities. Although gently used clothes are donated
frequently - they are left with a need for new underwear. CWC
learned of this specific need for Lake County Foster Kids.
During October, CWC worked to fill this need with
our fall Tighty-Whitie Drive. Over the month we
collected donations toward our goal of 500 pair of
underwear and 100 undergarments for toddler thru
high school age children.

CWC Scholarship Updates

The Scholarship Committee is looking forward to another wonderful year of working with talented and committed high school
students from Lake County and awarding our annual $3,000 service scholarship to the student who best exemplifies the mission of
the Caring Women’s Connection.

The amazing young adults who are recipients for the CWC Service Scholarship show a true passion for volunteering in their
community and helping make the world around them a better place. Last year, through your generous support, we were able to
increase our funding and award FOUR service scholarships to local students!

With your help, we can award an additional Service Scholarship to another Submission
deserving high school student. Attend our Wine & Yoga Fun and Fundraising Deadline
Event At Total Fitness Studio in Lake Zurich on January 10 to help with funding
our goals for 2018-2019 year. See page 1 for details! Feb. 1, 2019

CORPORATE MEMBERSHIP

OPPORTUNITY

Our Corporate Members are Jumping In!

Our corporate members are in full swing of activity with active participation at our Connections events and sponsorships
of our upcoming Love Fund Auction. It is wonderful how our member base continues to actively support our member
businesses, and both of these types of participation bring member businesses front and center to the member base
of CWC. At our last Connections event, there were many local business women coming out to support CWC, connect with
others in conversation and networking. These interactions continue our “Growing Good’ as we grow the connections and
relationships we make and they branch out.

It’s not too late to renew as a Corporate Member (CM)!

Don’t feel like you missed the boat. You can still join and take advantage of a full year of membership. This is a quick and easy
way to support women and children in need (this program raised over $8000 last year). If you are not a CM yet, please consider
that the donation of $135 includes: your company name on the cover of our Connections Newsletter (which delivers to over
4000 local households and resides on our website) and links from our website to yours. We also offer potential opportunities to
showcase your business through additional advertisements such as eblasts at a reduced rate, opportunities to plan a fundraiser
at your place of business, and discounts on ads in the Connections newsletter. If you would like to renew or join, please go to
our website: CaringWomensConnection.com, then choose Membership and Join us.

Please contact Susan Passaglia at [email protected] 847-370-8282
or Paula Hoerner at [email protected] with any questions or inquiries.

Woods Garage Sale over the years. The Sale has been a part of CWC events

the chapter.
Over the past few years we have seen a steady decline in registration. It seems 847-334-0755
with social media, the benefit provided by a town wide garage sale has been
diminished. After much thought we feel that our organization will be better www.marykay.com/mshell
able to raise funds through other community events.
We have enjoyed working with you all over the years and look forward to
seeing your participation in new upcoming events.
