ABOUT ME

I'm Likhanthini Nair a student in
Bachelor in Education Science.
Education. Teaching has always been
a passion of mine. I believe this
university life is a stepping stone as an
educator and it is both pretty much
fun and challenging for me at the
same time.

TEACHING PRINCIPLES

The nature of knowledge should be relative. Each
student is different, and their education should fit
their needs. Education should help the child grow
both mentally and emotionally. Students should be
given the right to think on their own. They do not
need a teacher who will take their free will away.
Students should not have to conform to something in
which they do not believe. They should have their
own thought processes. The best philosophical
approach toward a child’s education is
progressivism.
My teaching principle will let the students become
critical thinkers who can use their knowledge in the
“outside world”. Instead of being a strict teacher, I will
be a facilitator. My classroom will be one of control,
and not one with a strict code of order. I feel that if a
teacher orders students around they will be given less
respect. If you keep them in line without being too
controlling, they will be more effective listeners. I will
create a type of democracy in which everyone will
have a voice in their educational curriculum.
Students should be allowed to have some sort of
input into the type of education they are receiving. If
they do not like something we are doing, we should
take the time and listen to their ideas. I will not act
like I am more intelligent than they are. I believe that
teachers should operate on the same level, and
receive as much as they give.

OVERALL REFLECTION

My microteaching experience was very
beneficial to me, in the sense that it

developed my confidence as well as focused
on areas that need improvement. It was an
interesting training opportunity to benefit

from. Also, microteaching was a fun
experience that we as trainee teachers we
required to teach our peers a micro lesson,
which ranged from 5 to 10 minutes. After
every mini lesson, we received a review about
it from our lecturer Madam Nirmala who
observes our performance in addition to
feedback from our classmates. I gained a lot

doing my project as well.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

Day : WEDNESDAY
Date: 14 / 9 / 2022

Today Madam Nirmala taught us about Lesson Plan. I learnt that in
microteaching the audience are peers and not students. We proceed within skills
step by step, not like normal teaching.
We were asked to reflect on the 21st century teaching and learning from the
DSKP. It touches about Technology, Presentation, Project Based Learning, and
Cooperative Learning. The main characteristics of 21st century learning are team
players, communicator, and thinkers.
The lesson pan also needs different strategies to accommodate high, average,
and the less proficient students. This will determine the lessons success criteria.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

Day : WEDNESDAY
Date: 21 / 9 / 2022

Today I learned about the purpose of a lesson plan.
Madam Nirmala showed us how to construct the
learning outcome simply by using the SMART
acronym, where S stands
for specific.
M represents measure.
A represents attainable.
Relevant is the initials R.
Time-based is referred to as T.
We learned why do teachers need to share learning
outcomes and objectives with students.
Educational domains are divided into three parts
which are cognitive, affective and psychomotor.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

Day : WEDNESDAY
Date: 23 / 9 / 2022

Today our lesson was about content standard and learning standard to learning
objectives. Content standard and learning standard is found in DSKP. The
content of the DSKP can be found in the textbook. Madam Nirmala said that it's
advisable to have at least one content standard, one learning
standard and three learning objectives in a lesson plan. After explaining all of
these, madam asked us to choose a topic and write down the content standard,
learning standard and learning objectives on the mahjong paper. We then got to
present it in front of the class and madam gave us some comments on our
work.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

Day : WEDNESDAY
Date: 28 / 9 / 2022

In this class learned about anticipatory set another word of set induction. A set
induction should be done within 7 minutes. In this stage of lesson plan, students
would be looking for something excited and the topic must be related for that day's
lesson. I learned on good set induction strategies. There are 4 strategies on good set
induction. First is attention getting method and it must be done the moment a
teacher enters the classroom within 1 minute to 30 seconds. Second would be
interest method and it should be done within 3 minutes which would be 2 minutes
of video and 1 minute of questions and answer. We were also reminded to always
make sure to discuss about the video before the Q&A session. Third is putting lesson
context which would be 1 and half minutes. In this strategy, a review on previous
lessons by asking the students questions on prior knowledge and introduced them
learning objectives for today's lesson. Lastly is advance organizers and this would
be conducted for 2 and half minutes.
A simple statement, a mind map, a handout or a humble story should be done in this
strategy. Madam Nirmala, also gave us few tips for effective set induction which are
keep it easy, keep it fun and keep it meaningful. Before the class ended, madam
asked us to come up with 2 activities for each set induction strategies and post our
answers in padlet. The padlet link was shared by madam in our telegram group.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

Todays lesson was supposed to be conducted online, we were given task in
group of 5, we were required to suggest 5 examples of teaching aids that we
could use for physical classroom and we should also describe 1 activity for
each of the teaching aid suggested. To be more specific, madam asked us to
state the language skill, the topic and the activity that could be carried out
using those teaching aids. Once we are done, the answers were to be posted in
padlet. The padlet was shared by madam in our telegram group.

teach a lesson or make it more interesting to students. Madam Nirmala also gave few
examples on teaching aids like poster, model, flannel boards and educational toys.
Madam also suggested us to invest on portable projector for our intern as
it would be easy for us to use as teaching aid at school later. We learnt that there are
4 types of teaching aids. First is visual aids like diorama, actual objects and so on.
Second is audio aids like speakers. Third is audio-visual aids like projectors, YouTube
videos and so on. Madam also explained in detail on the use of each teaching aids

Today we continued with the Set Induction presentation. Madam Nirmala asked for
our feedbacks to assess our peers , this way we learnt a lot about what we were
lacking and madam gave us comments on our presentation. It was very interesting to
watch our classmates present and we learnt new techniques to implement in our
teaching in the future.

In todays class we learnt about questioning techniques. Madam Nirmala
emphasized on asking or creating a question by applying bloom's taxonomy.
Madam Nirmala also gave us few examples questions and the answers should
be rational, relevant logic. We also learnt on how a good question should be. It
should be thought provoking, relevant, clearly stated, comprehensive, has
common vocabulary and properly directed. When asking question it should be
low level questions on evaluate, diagnosing and reviewing. On high level
questions that should be asked by teacher talking less and the student talks
more. Madam Nirmala also taught us on how to handle with student
responses.

Today was our Task B, Project 2 presentation which is to develop a blog for the
teaching and learning for any chosen form based on the DSKP for the purpose of
student’s independent learning. There should be a total of 8 activities or tasks
and it should include the relevant CS and LS and LO for each activity.
All activities should be based on 1 topic only. The blog should be a self-sufficient
and interactive medium for students to learn the topic. The link to our blogs
should be shared on padlet link that given by madam. As usual all my classmates
was presenting and comments was given by madam and few of my classmates.
There were many interesting blogs done by my classmates and I also learned on

to answer. I gladly took the comments as I know that these were constructive
critisism. Madam also reminded us about portfolio submission. She also showed
an ex students portfolio which consist of 64 pages which got selected for an
