4 GOLF CHAIRMAN MESSAGE / club notice Message from the golf committee Chairman Dear Members, As we prepare to kick off the quarter, I'd like to take a moment to address an important aspect of our golfing experience: handicaps. Handicaps are an integral part of maintaining fairness and competitiveness on the course. Therefore, I urge all members to ensure the timely submission of their scorecards following each round of play. Failure to do so not only hinders the integrity of our club's handicapping system but also incurs penalty scores. Let us all uphold the principles of honesty and sportsmanship by refraining from any temptation to manipulate scores before submission. In other exciting news, preparations for the 2024 Club Championships are well underway. The conditions of play will be announced shortly, outlining the guidelines and regulations for this highly anticipated event. I encourage all eligible members to participate enthusiastically, whether in the Men's Championship, Seniors Championship or Ladies Championship. Let us come together to showcase our skills, friendship, and passion for the game. I am much excited to see what the team has in line for us. I would like to mention that it's essential to remain mindful of the potential challenges that may arise, particularly during periods of extreme weather. With the looming threat of heatwaves, I implore each of you to prioritise your health and well-being on and off the course. Ensure to stay hydrated, seek shade when necessary, and be vigilant in recognising the signs of heat-related illnesses. Together, let's ensure a safe and enjoyable golfing experience for all. In closing, I extend my sincere wishes for a joyful and fulfilling Eid Mubarak. Ng Say Hoe oasis permai october-december 2023

18 golf rules oasis permai april-JUNE 2024 Ladies Captain When is changing of ball allowed? In this issue, let us be clear about when is substitution or changing of ball is allowed. Rule 14.3 provides, whenever the player is taking a penalty relief or free relief, he is always allowed the choice to substitute a ball or to use the original ball. Substitution is allowed when a player is taking relief under any Rule – which means, when the player is required or allowed to play the next stroke from somewhere other than where the original ball came to rest. On the other hand, substitution is not allowed when a ball has been lifted or moved, and the Rules require it to be replaced on its original spot – in that case, the original ball must still be used (unless it cannot be recovered with reasonable effort and in a few seconds). So, what is the penalty if a player makes a stroke at an incorrectly substituted ball? Rule 6.3 stated that the player gets one penalty stroke and must then play out the hole with the incorrectly substituted ball. Happy Golfing!
