www. playmalaysiagolf.com ABOUT MGTA
Formed in March 2011, the Malaysia Golf Tourism Association (MGTA) is a non-
profit organisation whose goal is to create greater international awareness of Malaysia
as one of the best golfing destination in Asia.
To achieve this goal, the MGTA works closely with Tourism Malaysia to formulate
and execute strategies that elevate Malaysia’s profile as a golfing destination and thus
increase the number of golfing visitors to the country. These include strategic presences
at international and regional golf shows and conferences, targeted campaigns in key
markets as well as marketing and promotional tie-ups with prominent golf media
worldwide. Having built strong relationships within the Malaysian golf industry over
the years, MGTA also endeavours to elevate the standard of the golfing experience
in Malaysia through close cooperation and discussion with key bodies such as the
Malaysian Golf Association (MGA) and the Golf Club Managers Association of
Malaysia (GCMAM).
ABOUT MALAYSIA
GOLF TOURISM
ASSOCIATION
www.playmalaysiagolf.com
To supplement these efforts, the MGTA engages golfers directly through its ‘Play
Malaysia Golf ’ campaign where the huge diversity of golfing experiences in Malaysia
are highlighted at consumer-centric golf events and high-profile tournaments. These
include the EurAsia Cup, Maybank Malaysian Open, CIMB Classic and Sime Darby
LPGA Malaysia. Information on golfing in Malaysia is disseminated to the golfing
world through the MGTA’s portal, www.playmalaysiagolf.com and via marketing
collaterals which are sent to Tourism Malaysia offices worldwide.
The MGTA membership consists of golf clubs, resorts, hotels, tour operators and
media, thus providing a focal point for overseas tour operators and other parties who
are keen on selling Malaysia as a golfing destination. This is enhanced by a long-term
partnership with the International Association of Golf Travel Operators (IAGTO),
which includes global communication through the IAGTO’s extensive network of tour
operators and media owners. Culminating a broad membership base which overlaps
with other tourism-related bodies such as the Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel
Agents (MATTA) and the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), the MGTA is
indeed well-placed to coordinate efforts and pool resources to market Malaysia to the
world. With its recent crowning as ‘Asia’s Best Golfing Destination’ at the World
Golf Awards, MGTA will continue its successful ways in elevating the golf destination
inbound promotions whilst seamlessly improving the standards of golf tourism in
Malaysia.
