The Eco Schools Programme 4
What is The Eco Schools Programme At TESP, our goal is simple yet powerful: to inspire change through action. Environmental issues such as global warming, food shortages, and healthy living have become our main concerns, driving us to raise awareness within our school community. Through our projects, we aim to educate, engage, and empower individuals to take responsibility for a more sustainable future. This mission has led us to start several impactful projects over the years. Some of our most notable efforts include indoor vertical farming, the water goat system to curb water pollution, mangrove plantations, and our award-winning GreenWall 1.0 and 2.0 initiatives. These projects have not only contributed to environmental conservation but have also earned us recognition at national competitions. What motivates us to keep going? The belief that awareness alone is not enough—we must act. Small efforts can lead to significant change, and together with our, TESP teammates’ endless commitments, determination, and vision, we are confident that TESP will continue to make a lasting impact. Together, we can build a more informed and responsible community. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to working alongside all of you in making a difference!

12 32 Illustrated by Aeriel Lim Zi Rong 5A
Good evening and a warm welcome to Performance & Awards Night 2024! We are absolutely thrilled to have you with us tonight, and it's my pleasure to introduce you to the concept and elements that make this design truly unique. This design is inspired by our play’s lead role, Gusti Puteri, and the nature of our awards night, the trophies, that recognises the accomplishments of our students. Above it, are the names of the wonderful actors and actresses that have helped bring this story to life! I was provided ample guidance by my teacher advisor, Ms Hariet. Together, we explored various design directions, and through our collaboration, before arriving at this final concept. Without her support and insight, this piece would not have come to fruition. I am truly grateful to have been given this oppurtunity to work on this project. The illustration features a lady adorned by a Javanese princess headpiece, holding one of our signature trophies. She is shown surrounded by the vibrant Bunga Raya, our national flower, along with other beautiful florals, creating a harmonious and cultural representation. Student of the year award 22
Student of the year award secondary 1 Emily Liew Jo Li, 1G “Special” was a word I never used to describe myself. I was always the quiet, hardworking person in the background. So, being nominated for Student of the Year was a genuine surprise and a moment of reflection. It made me realize that my quiet efforts and kindness toward others had actually made an impact. The nomination reminded me that I didn’t need to be the most extroverted or extraordinary to make a difference. For me, this award isn’t just about recognition; it’s about understanding that being consistent, kind, and true to myself matters. It also shows other students that even those who doubt their significance can leave a mark. That realization means more to me than words can express. Lim Sin Yee, 1M From the moment I joined Sri KDU, I have been inspired by the incredible accomplishments of past students, particularly the recipients of the prestigious Student of the Year award. Ever since then, I have been determined to earn this honor and title myself. This nomination is deeply meaningful to me, and I am extremely grateful to those who have supported and guided me throughout this entire school year. To me, this nomination is more than just a step closer to achieving this award; it is also a reflection of my hard work and determination. It motivates me to push my limits and continue working harder toward becoming the best version of myself. Being nominated for the Student of the Year award fills me with gratitude and a deep sense of accomplishment. This recognition reflects not only the results of my personal effort but also the guidance of my teachers, the support of my beloved family, and the inspiration of my classmates. It reminds me of the saying, “Hard work always pays off.” Excellence, to me, is not a destination but a choice—choosing curiosity over comfort, integrity over ease, and collaboration over competition. This award represents not just what I’ve achieved but the potential to grow and contribute even further. I accept this honor with humility and a promise to always “go the extra mile.” Thank you for believing in me. Goh Man Qi, 1E When I joined Sri KDU earlier this year, one of the first things that caught my attention was the list of students who had received prestigious awards like Student of the Year. Since then, achieving this honour is a goal I’ve been working towards. My name’s Umar, and this nomination is deeply meaningful to me. I’m forever grateful to the people who have supported me on this journey and for the opportunities I’ve been given. This nomination doesn’t just bring me a step closer to achieving the award; it is a testament to my hard work and dedication throughout the year. It inspires me to keep striving to become the best version of myself! A week ago, I got the news that I had been nominated for the “Student of the Year” award. What did I feel? It was not the typical “I was excited” or “I was nervous”… It was a weird and unprecedented feeling — a feeling of epiphany and realization. It was something that couldn’t quite be boxed in a single word. I realized that the future, the award — they didn’t matter. What mattered was the sacrifice and the courage to keep going. I finally understood that I didn’t need to worry about future outcomes if I had put in the dedication and hard work. It would already be a success in itself. “Never let the future disturb you.” - Marcus Aurelius Tan Sebastian Poe Ryu, 1A Umar Anwar bin Farid Anwar Naidu, 1C 23
Secondary 2 Student of the year award Tan Yi Rou, 2G Hugo Tang Tze Xuan, 2E After digging through hurdles and investing countless hours of unwavering determination and relentless effort, receiving the honor of being titled a ‘Student of the Year’ contender feels like striking gold. I have always believed that an optimistic mindset, coupled with a drive to progress, paves the way to success. Remarkable individuals like Albert Einstein and Thomas Edison exemplify this philosophy. I aspire to be like them and being a finalist in this award feels like a long-awaited and deserved reward. These respectable figures, as well as my peers and family, are my sources of motivation driving me to go further and work harder. As Albert Einstein once said, ‘Genius is 1% talent and 99% hardwork.’ Being nominated for the Student of the Year award for two years in a row is a huge honour. When I was first informed that I was one of the finalists, I felt deeply grateful for the opportunity to be considered for this award again. This year has been a long journey of learning, exploring new things, and overcoming challenges, which ultimately turned into a sweet victory. This journey has made me realised on the importance of patience and perseverance and I am most grateful for the unwavering love and support from my teachers and family. Sufi Zahrina Binti Zarir, 2C Being nominated for the Student of the Year Award has always been a goal of mine, and I have never been prouder of the dedication and effort I have put into achieving this. On one hand, I am honoured to have my diligence recognised. On the other hand, I feel deeply determined to continue accomplishing significant achievements that serve as a testament to my commitment and exemplify excellence in my endeavours. “Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but the seeds that you plant” is a quote I have adhered to unwaveringly; and being gifted the opportunity to watch everything pay off in the end holds a great deal of significance to me. See Jean Lynn, 2M In 2024, came opportunities. Like discovering a field of flowers, colourful and unique, I was given the chance to join and partake in numerous programmes, the ‘Free Tree Programme’ and ‘Youth Alliance for Service’ to name a few. These events have pried open my eyes, blessing me with experience and a chance to grow. Having been one of the finalists for this award once again, P&A has left an indelible mark on my heart. To end things off, I’d like to issue a heartfelt thank you to everyone who’s been along for the ride. Thank you for your undying support. Thank you! Natasha Chan Teng Teng, 2M Let me share a secret with you; I have always admired my peers that were nominated for this remarkable award. Seeing them walk on the stage to claim their award inspired me to work harder. Going all out and burning those midnight oils is a constant reminder to me that the path to success isn’t just about where it ends — it is always the journey. The journey allows us to experience and cultivate the lessons we need to learn, contributing to our growth. This nomination is absolutely surreal. I wouldn’t have done it without the support of the people around me. To my parents, thank you for always showering me with support. To my teachers and friends, I am eternally grateful for all the encouragement you have given me. Most of all, thank you for being my drivers and showing me the map and road to finding my own path. 24
secondary 3 Student of the year award secondary 3 Kavisha Sivanaesan, 3G Being nominated as Student of the Year fills me with immense gratitude and pride. This recognition represents my hard work, determination, and a commitment to growth throughout the school year. This achievement would not have been possible without the support of my parents, who have always believed in me and I am equally thankful to my teachers, whose dedication and encouragement have motivated me to be an active student in school while also giving me advice on how to balance academics and activities and to my dear friends, thank you for being there for me throughout the year. Finally, being one of the nominees inspires me to continue striving for excellence and to work toward becoming a person who achieves lasting success. Caitlyn Ng Min Huey, 3C When I received the news that I am a SOTY finalist, I was both surprised and happy to have qualified as a finalist for the first time. I feel thankful to all the teachers who recognized my potential and nominated me to become a finalist among the students who have nominated themselves. Looking back on the past year, I believe I have tried my best in whatever I have done, and I am grateful to everyone who has supported me and shaped me into the person I am today. To all my fellow finalists, congratulations on your success! I am honored to join you onstage at P&A Night. I am deeply grateful and honoured to receive the Student of the Year award, especially in a year filled with challenges. This year, I took on new roles and responsibilities, stepping out of my comfort zone which led to major breakthroughs. These experiences taught me resilience, adaptability, and independence. Balancing these responsibilities with academics and cocurricular activities was no walk in the park but I leaned on God’s strength to guide me through it. His grace, along with the encouragement of my family, teachers, and peers, helped me overcome obstacles and grow as a person. This recognition reflects not just my efforts but also the support and blessings that have shaped my journey. Kimberly Liew Zi Li, 3E 2024 was a fascinating year with experiences that mirrored the sea’s undulating waves and provided deeper insight into our future as we prepare to step into the upper secondary world. With that said, I am again immensely grateful to be bestowed with the honour of being a nominee for this distinguished award alongside the other crème de la crème of our form. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, who were my pillars of strength. My friends and teachers, who always supported me and gave me the confidence to express myself. I am eternally thankful and indebted to all of you. Thank you. Being nominated for such a prestigious award left me feeling deeply humbled and grateful. I found it hard to believe at first, deeming myself unfit for this award. However, that’s when reality kicked in and I realised that all my efforts and choices throughout the year are the ones that had led me here. This year wasn’t the easiest and I’m glad that I managed to find a healthy balance between my studies and co-curricular activities. I’m thankful to all the love and support I’ve received and want to express my utmost gratitude to my family, teachers and friends. Thank you for always shining your unwavering light onto the darkest corners of my life and guiding me forward. Tiang Jia Min, 3G Nehaa Barathi A/P Kabilan, 3M 25
Secondary 4 Student of the year award Amir Ridzuan Bahari, 4M Lee Jun Hui, 4A I am deeply honored to be nominated for the Secondary 4 Student of the Year Award. This reminded me of the importance of consistency, curiosity, and responsibility in anything and everything I do. While I appreciate the recognition given to me, it also pushes me to keep growing, continue improving and contributing meaningfully to my school community. I promise to continue to do my best in my roles as a student leader, a prefect and a student in general. Regardless of the outcome, I am grateful for this opportunity given to me by my teachers and fellow friends and for the experiences, and challenges that have shaped me this year. 2024 has truly been a year to remember. I’ve had the privilege of participating in numerous events, volunteering in various programs, and meeting incredible individuals. These experiences have broadened my perspective and shaped me into both a better student and a more thoughtful person. I am truly honored to have been nominated for this award. This recognition is incredibly gratifying and reminds me that I am constantly learning—not just from new experiences but from the people around me. So, I would like to take this moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my parents, teachers, and friends. They have supported and mentored me invaluably every step of the way. Before I conclude, I’d like to share a perspective that has helped me stay positive through challenges: always keep looking ahead, even when the going gets tough, because with faith and grit, the comeback will always be stronger than the setback. Eliana Jade Ye, 4A “All our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” This is one of many quotes from Walt Disney that motivates me and serves as a constant reminder not to give up easily in pursuit of my goals. It is said that those who never stop trying and believing in hard work will always succeed. No words can describe my gratitude and excitement when I heard I was nominated for this honourable award. I could not believe that I had been nominated again as tackling challenges both academically and in extracurricular activities was not easy — and I wouldn’t have done it without the unwavering support of the people around me. With that, I would like to express my thanks to my parents, who are my pillar of support, my teachers for showering me with endless encouragement, and of course, to the judging panel. Thank you for lending me your ears and allowing me to express my gratitude to the school for giving me another chance to take part in this important moment. Tan Yi Ling, 4E I am truly honoured to be shortlisted for the Student of the Year award for Secondary 4. This recognition reflects not just my achievements but also the incredible support from my team members, teachers, friends, and family. I've learnt a lot throughout the years, not just in class, but also through extracurricular activities and interactions with people. As Head Prefect, I was able to manage and lead an amazing team, organising events such as the Interclass Games and arranging the upcoming Prefects Symposium. These experiences taught me the value of working together and delegating tasks to ensure that events run smoothly. This nomination serves as a reminder to me to never stop striving to do my best and have a positive influence. I am truly grateful for this opportunity. Arjun Jeevan, 4D I want to thank God, my family and all my teachers without whom being nominated for Student of the Year wouldn’t be possible. My heart is warmed, and I am encouraged to reach my next goals. I feel relieved that I pushed through Form 4. My experiences have shown me the beauty of hard work and collaboration, and I am grateful to my friends who smoothened the way. It wasn’t always easy, and I hope this nomination doesn’t make me forget all the hardships that led to it. I have done my best and am happy to have my efforts recognised. I wish the best to the other nominees. 26
Student of the year award secondary 3 secondary 5 Caleb Lam Zhen Kit, 5M I’m extremely honored to receive this award. Since Form 4, I have always aimed to achieve more, from earning top grades to participating in competitions and joining committees. Thanks to Jayden Lee, I had the privilege of serving as the president of SCOPE-2023/2024. With limited experience in leadership roles, I faced many challenges, such as learning the essence of leading a team and dealing with stress I had never encountered before. I maintained my grades, participated in national and international competitions, and led SCOPE-2023/2024, despite facing numerous obstacles that deepened my understanding of the ups and downs of life. This experience taught me that taking risks is crucial in reaching greater heights, and though challenges may inevitably obstruct your path, they ultimately help to shape a stronger version of yourself. Farah Nuryn Binti Raslan Haniff, 5M In physics, we learned that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. I hold this principle close to heart because it has helped me take proper action to improve myself as a student. I’m wholly indebted to my mom, dad and sister for setting an example to me. I really must extend my warmest wishes to my dear teachers, classmates, and school friends. To the SLT, thank you for recognising my efforts and celebrating our achievements. I’ve been a part of Sri KDU for a decade now and am about to graduate. As I move forward, I’ll carry with me every lesson, skill acquired and cherished memory away with a sincere smile. Once again, thank you and good luck to everyone! Becoming a finalist for “Student of the Year” is both humbling and affirming. Over the past five years, I have emceed events such as Merdeka Day, Mandarin Week, and BM Week. I was the president of Wings of Mandarin and the Chinese Association Club. My leadership roles, whether as Captain of the MSSD Table Tennis team, Head of Statistics in PC, or Student Reporter at Cahaya Sin Chew Daily, have given me the opportunity to grow and lead by example. Representing the school and achieving success in MSSD Chess and international singing contests allowed me to recognize my talents. I am grateful to have spent my precious five years at this school, as Sri KDU has always provided endless resources for students to showcase their talents. Bernice Saw Yen Yi, 5M After 11 years, I’m finally turning the last page of my Sri KDU chapter. Being nominated for SOTY one last time is an honour and a delightful finale to my time as a student of KDU. As I reflect on my time here, I’ve come to realise just how much I’ve grown from when I was a timid and shy 7-year-old, holding the hands of my 1 Galileo HRT on the way to class. I would never imagine that I would have excelled in sports, academics and even leadership 8 to 10 years down the line. I’ve met numerous teachers and friends throughout these 11 years who have brought me out of my shell and presented me with opportunities in multiple fields. I would like to extend my gratitude to my parents, friends and teachers for their multitude of support and encouragement all these years. As I step into a larger, wilder and less sheltered portion of my journey, I’ll remember to carry the lessons and experiences I’ve gathered at Sri KDU. Needless to say, I think I would have made 7-year-old me proud and I hope I will continue to in my next chapter. Alyssa Tan Sze Hui, 5A As a high school student nearing the completion of my studies, I am incredibly grateful to be nominated for the Student of the Year award. I truly believe that over the years, I have consistently put in my full effort to achieve the goals I have set for myself. I have always approached everything I do with sincerity, and I am thankful to be recognized with this nomination. It is truly an honor to have been nominated for this award. Uganraj Sugumaran, 5D 27
