The National Creative Industry Policy (NCIP) stands as a pivotal initiative spearheaded by the Malaysian Government, aimed at cultivating and fortifying the creative art industry throughout the nation. There exists a firm conviction that the local creative industry harbors immense potential to substantially contribute to the socio-economic growth of our country. Aligned with the overarching objective of elevating our nation to a high-income status, it is imperative that we consistently enhance the capabilities and professionalism of the creative talent within this sector. Here at Universiti Teknologi Mara, we have astutely recognized the paramount importance of the creative realm. In 1967, we established one of the first art schools in Malaysia, located in Petaling Jaya. However, as of 2022, it has evolved into the College of Creative Arts, a dynamic synergy encompassing three distinguished faculties—Art & Design, Music, as well as Film, Theatre, and Animation. LOCUS, an acronym for Leader of Creative Arts Undergraduate Showcase, epitomizes an intellectual exhibition and performance, spanning various artistic dimensions meticulously designed to broaden the minds and interests of prospective artists, performers, and designers. This endeavor significantly influences the perception of visual arts and performance at UiTM Shah Alam’s College of Creative Arts. Furthermore, it serves as a tangible testament to the unwavering quality and dedication exhibited by both students and lecturers within the College of Creative Arts, showcasing a shared commitment to enhancing the quality of art in education. My heartfelt congratulations and commendations extend to LOCUS and the College of Creative Arts for orchestrating a highly successful event. The College of Creative Arts at UiTM proudly presents LOCUS, a prestigious event that serves as a platform for showcasing the culminating works of art and performances across all 21 programs. This inaugural event was meticulously orchestrated with the dual objective of not only curating and commemorating the finest works of graduating students but also spotlighting the noteworthy achievements of CCA alumni to the wider public. The advent of LOCUS, framed within the concept of ‘exhibiting,’ significantly enriches the intellectual and vibrant tapestry of both students and alumni. The term “locus,” in its literal sense, denotes ‘the spot where something happens or the major focus of interest in whatever is being discussed.’ However, within the CCA community, it takes on a profound meaning as ‘The Leader of Creative Arts Undergraduate Showcase.’ Scheduled to be a bi-semester event, LOCUS serves as a unifying force, bringing together the diverse talents within the CCA community to foster synergistic interactions among all programs. Its primary aim is not only to enhance the academic quality across programs but also to offer the captivating world of art to society during the LOCUS open day. I wish to express my utmost appreciation to the LOCUS committee for their unwavering effort and exceptional commitment, which culminated in a highly successful event and showcase. 7 Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh With great pleasure, I extended my warmest welcome to everyone, the celebrated students who are about to graduate, the esteemed alumni, artists, scholars, and family of the College of Creative Arts to The Leader of Creative Arts Undergraduate Showcase (LOCUS 2024). As the Chairman of this event, I am truly honored to be a part of the first synergistic event organized by the College of Creative Arts that collaboratively gathered all programs under one roof. LOCUS conveys the intersection of creativity, artistic perspective, creation, innovation, and expression. The amalgamation of all the strengths that are under CCA has resulted in significant discoveries within the framework of undergraduate studies, as well as the outstanding achievements of the alumni who were educated at our respected college. These are all brought together under the umbrella of an event that is welcome and available to everyone in the community to celebrate and provide insight into the path that CCA is heading on. Numerous activities have been organized for the amusement of both students and visitors. There are numerous events besides exhibitions and performances, including art markets and activities for the creation of arts and handicrafts. I anticipate this event to be a collaborative endeavour delving into the complex interplay between creativity and the human experience as demonstrated by both visitors and art activities. None of these can be succeeded without the support of many.
