KERRI KEITH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND ESTABLISHED
A $15,000 gift has been given to the AOFI Foundation to establish a memorial fund for Kerri Keith. Kerri was a Junior at Georgia State University last Fall when she and another sis- ter, Chrissa Hawkins, were involved in a tragic automobile accident. The Kerri Keith Memorial Scholarship will be given yearly to a Junior or Senior at Georgia State University.
Kerri was initiated into AOII in 1990 and immediately began an in depth involvement in the sorority. Her involve- ment was so great that she was named best pledge as well as Sister of the Year in 1991. Kerri accepted several leader- ship roles in Gamma Sigma including Assistant Pledge Educator, Intramurals Chair, and VP/Pledge Educator.
Her mother wrote of the family's reason for establishing this scholarship, "Kerri's intense devotion to AOII prompted her family to establish a scholarship fund so that future mem- bers of Gamma Sigma Chapter will know an inspirational sis- ter and be rewarded for contributing to the sorority as Kerri so lovingly did. Kerri's mom, Sandy; dad, Skip; and two older brothers, Craig and Chad, are so very proud of Kerri for the beautiful human being she was and always will be to them and to everyone who was touched by her in any way."

MARTHA WILHOITE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
In memory of Martha McKinney Wilhoite (M) '35, a scholarship fund is being established within the Alpha Omicron Pi Founckttion. Following Martha's death on August 26, 1991, the Theta Chapter Advisory Committee proposed the Martha Wilhoite Memorial Scholarship Fund as a way to honor Martha and to continue good works in her name. The idea was endorsed by Theta Chapter, the Corporation Board and Martha's husband, Adrian Wilhoite.
Adrian said of his wife, "She loved people and loved to do things for peo- ple...and she loved to have fun. That's the story of her life". Contributions to this fund should be sent to the AOII Foundation, 9025 Overlook Boulevard, Brentwood, TN 37027. Indicate on the check that the donation is for the Martha Wilhoite Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Nil Omicron celebrates 75th
By June Greer Bogle
Nu Omicron (Vanderbilt U.) Alternate N P C Delegate
Nu Omicron Chapter (Vanderbilt U.) in Nashville, Tennessee was 75 years old on April 28, 1992. On April 11, a day- long celebration was held with many alum- nae attending from all over the country. International President Barbara Daugs Hunt was a special guest. Nancy Perry Bowers, former Executive Board Director, was chairman of the celebration, assisted by the N u Omicron Corporation Board, the Nashville Alumnae Chapter, and the N u Omicron Collegiate Chapter.
The festivities began at 10 a.m. with a coffee at the chapter house honoring Carrie Hughlette for 20 years service as the chap- ter's housekeeper and cook. Carrie was thrilled and many of her "girls" were delighted to see her again. The Nu Omi- cron house, like the other sorority houses at Vanderbilt, houses only six women and a house director.
An open house was held in the after- noon at the Nu Omicron chapter house which has recently been redecorated and has an entirely new roof design.
The highlight of the celebration was the banquet at the Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel Satuday evening. International President Barbara Hunt was honored at a reception prior to the banquet.
Millie Milam Murphy, banquet toast- mistress, gave an inspiring history of N u Omicron. In January of 1917, Mary D. Houston came to Vanderbilt from Omi- cron Chapter at the U . of Tennessee with the express purpose of founding a new AOII chapter. (Thus, the name Nu Omi- cron!) She gathered four friends, Katrina Overall and sister Natalie Overall, rheir cousin Mary John Overall, and lone Blair and formed Alpha Alpha. Their first pledges were Louella Whorley, Lenna Webb, Mary Harrel, Helen Kelly, and Faith Clarke. By April, they had received their charter from Alpha Omicron Pi!
Mary D. Housron was the first chapter president and after her graduation she served as chapter adviser (called alumnae adviser then). Later she was appointed a dis- trict superintendent (similar to a regional vice president today). Mary D. helped form the Nashville Alumnae Chapter. In 1923,
m

Mary D. and a group of Nu Omicron sis- ters went to the 9th A O l I Convention in style— her father, P.D. Houston, provided his private railroad car ro take them to Knoxville for the convention at Whittle Springs. Mary D . married Madison Sarrart and in 1924 gave birth to their son, Hous- ton, but died five weeks later. Katrina, her good friend and AOII sister, was elected AOII National President in 1925.
Of the five founding members, only Natalie Overall W arren is still living. Although Natalie lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she stays in contact with the collegiate chap- ter. She was unable to attend the celebration but lovingly sent a donation. The sons of Katrina Overall McDonald sent roses.
One of the stories shared at the ban- quet disclosed Jean Whorley Tripp's bold, unauthorized action as chapter treasurer. Jean withdrew $50 from the treasury, and with another sister, went to town and pur- chased a sertee and rwo matching chairs for their new but unfurnished chapter house. They then had to go to the ice cream store and sip sodas for courage! Jean, who was rhe little sister of charter member Louella Whorley, later served on the Executive Board.
The oldest aluma at the celebration was Robbie Allison Shackleford who was initiated in 1923. She thoroughly enjoyed the event and looked more like a 35-year member than a 70-year member!
The highlights of Nu Omicron's histo- ry include winningthe JWH Cup in 1921
and 1953 and winning honorable mention several times. N u Omicron members helped host the 1979 Convention at Opry- land Horel. At the 1991 Convention, the chapter received a Disringuished Service Award, a Scholarship Cup, and a Certificate of Achievement. The N u Omicron Corpo- ration Board also won a Certificate of Achievement in 1991. More than 15 Rose Awards have been given to Nu Omicron alumnae.
There were many special guests at the celebration including six past presidents of Nu Omicron Chapter: Frances Roden- hauser Lentz, Mary Rodenhauser Moore, Alice Ann Vaughn Barge, Edna Gene Little Green, Mary Phil Thomas Hamilton, and Margaret Avery Wilson. Among the 50- year members attending were: Andromedia Bagwell Noel, Lula Brock Estes, Jean Stephenson Bodfish, Edna Murray Davey Wade, Dot Willett Hopkins, Jane Vick Chapman, Louise Cecil Bennett, Annell Simmons Carr, lmogene Bratton Harper, and Nita Lanier Shanks.
Katie Burt and Lisa Sessions, co-presi- dents of the Nashville Alumnae Chapter, worked many hours to ensure the success of the celebration as did Marcia Parra, presi- dent of the Nu Omicron Chapter, and other collegiate chapter members. Their efforts resulted in a fine tribute to a won-
derful chapter!

Alpha Phi celebrates 75th anniversary
By Andrea Grover
Alpha Phi (Montana State U.) Committee Chairman
The Alpha Phi Chapter at Montana State University celebrated its 75th anniversary the weekend of February 22-23,
1992.
Over 150 alumnae from as far away as
Maryland travelled to Bozeman, Montana, for the event. Alpha Phi was honored to have such distinguished guests as Interna- tional President Barbara Daugs Hunt, Region IX Vice President Julie Sherer, and three A O I I generations of the family of Lil- lian Evers Swan. Mrs. Swan was initiated in 1919, and she has two daughters and three granddaughters who are Alpha Phi's.
The weekend started with a recep- tion/birthday party at the chapter house. Guests included city and campus ofTicials and members of other Greek groups. Mrs. Swan and her family performed the cake cutting ceremony. Guests enjoyed taking tours of the chapter house, browsing through the historical scrapbooks, and shar- ing memories with friends.
That evening a dinner-dance was held where a skit was performed to depict the eras of women at Montana State U . Anoth- er highlight was the announcement of the Girl of AOII Award winner.
On Sunday a Founders' Day brunch was held. The brunch honored the four Founders and the seven dedicated women who founded Alpha Phi Chapter on Feb- ruary 23, 1917. International President Barbara H u n t delivered the keynote address. The chapter was honored to have Barbara as its Founders' Day speaker for the second consecutive year. Another high- light was the awarding of 50-year pins to eight women. One of the many gifts the chapter received in honor of the occasion was the pin of one of Alpha Phi's founders. Monetary donations were used to cover the cost of a memory book about Alpha Phi's 75 years. This was written by Chapter Adviser Beverly Townsend with the help of chapter members.
Alpha Phi has a long and outstanding history on the campus of Montana State University. It was the firsr national Greek organization. Before receiving their charter

ing a chapter of AOII. The current chap- ter house was rhe first one to be built on the campus for the purpose of housing a sorority.
Throughout the past 75 years, many women contributed to the success of Alpha Phi. They have held high campus, com- munity, and chapter positions. In 1937, the chapter hosted AOlTs International Convention at Yellowstone National Park. It was there that Mary Dee Drummond was elected International President. Mary was a charter member of Alpha Phi, and she served as its first president. In 1941, Alpha Phi was chosen the Most Outstand- ing Chapter of AOII. More recently, at the 1991 Convention, the chapter was rec- ognized for various honors, including a Perry award winner, the Most Outstand- ing Alumnae Advisory Committee, and a Distinguished Service Award. 3§t

To the editor:
The new department, "Did you
know?" is great! It's a wonderful sum- mary of what so many of our sisters are able to achieve— and a delight to read. Great information, too, for rush!
Thanks for all your work. Heidi Morrison

Former chapter consultant writes from Asia...
To the editor:
AOII was my life for five years:
four as a collegian and one as a chap- ter consultant.
Now I work in Asia writing about tourism development in Vietnam. . .It's been over a year since I left the "real world" to strike out on my own. Final- ly, I have found time to write. The fol- lowing are some things I have been meaning to say for a long time:
Dear chapter reporters, thank you for doing your job. I hope you realize how much you brighten the lives of those of us alumnae who want to know what is happening but can't just call.
Dear editors, thank you for contin- ually striving to improve the magazine and for daring to address both Greek and national issues whether they be big budget programs or unemployment.
Dear sisters, please go back to the winter issue and reread the article on AIDS. Keep in mind that it is always best to be safe. You can be exposed to the HIV virus in what you believe to be a monogamous relationship. Using condoms shows respect for your part- ner as well as yourself. Also reread E.
Allison Brown's letter about cervical cancer from the summer issue.
Last but not least, if you are a recent graduate and unemployed, know that the time on your hands could be given to you to explore your dreams. I followed mine and, while I am still in debt, I am happier than I have ever been since I left AOII. I only wish I had some sisters over here to share the happiness with.

Enjoyed the article on college administrators...
To the editor:
I wanted to write and let you know
how impressed I was with the summer 1992 issue of To Dragma. The magazine has made leaps and bounds in quality improvement since I pledged four years ago and is up to par with other nation- al magazines (if not surpassing them) in professional production standards.
I was especially pleased with (and inspired by) the article on AOFIs active in college administration. This fall, I will be entering the masters program in College Student Personnel Administra- tion at Bowling Green State U. (home to Alpha Psi). As I begin my studies, it is helpful to witness the accomplish- ments of several AOII sisters in what has traditionally been a male-dominat- ed field. I use these women as role models for my future profession and urge any AOIIs who think they might have a talent for working with college students to consider the highly reward- ing field of administrative work.
Thank you again for an excellent issue and for highlighting these special sisters.

Calling professors boring is offensive...
To the editor:
Your effort to obtain professional
reviewers is commendable. A reviewer would never have approved degrad- ing comments such as appeared in the summer,1992ToDragma.I,andallof my sisters who are professors, take offense at Ms. Susie Bodman's com- ment about "listened to your last bor- ing professor". . .1 am insulted that my fraternity journal would print such an article. Most of my colleagues work very hard at adding knowledge to our society. My sorority should support such efforts, not degrade them.
I request that you please edit articles to encourage scholarship rather than attack professors.
Jan Zahrly, Ph.D.
Associate Professor,
Old Dominion University, Gamma Omicron (U. of Florida)
Editor's response: The article "In today's economy/ Graduation may be followed by. . .going home!"vi2& not intended to insult anyone, particularly hard work- ing and dedicated college professors. Thefirstparagraph which contained the comment 'Y ou've. . .listened to your last boring professor. . ." was written in what was intended as a Light-hearted conversational style— the way college students actually talk. To Dragma regrets offending anyone.

PIP on curling team
Have you ever wondered what Past International Presidents do after they leave office?
One of them. Canadian Joan Deathe MacCallum, Kappa Phi (McGill U.) is a member of a women's curling team which won the provincial cham- pionship last winter!
Curling is a sport played indoors on a long, narrow sheet of ice, 120 x 14 feet. The game involves throwing a 44 pound stone (with a handle attached) from one end of the court to the other to try to get it closest to the target. Each team is made up of four players and each player throws two stones. A team must use strength and strategy to get its stones as close as possible to the "bull's eye" while pre- venting the other team from doing the same. The captain (called the "skip") stands at the far end of the court and indicates to each player in turn where she would like the next stone to end up. In the meantime the other two players must decide whether the stone needs "sweeping." Sweeping is done with brooms immediately in front of the traveling stone. The friction of
sweeping very slightly melts the ice, causing the stone to encounter less resistance and thus travel further than it would otherwise and also curl (bend) in a greater or lesser arc.
Joan's team won the provincial finals this year. This required each team member to take a week off from their jobs, but their hard work paid off when they became the Quebec Senior W omen's Champions. After that the team had three weeks to prepare for the Canadian Championships in Saakatshewan where they played 11 games in seven days! (Each game is 2 1/2 hours long.)
"We were absolutely pooped!" Joan says. "At least everyone was in the same boat. We were housed in a small hotel with ten other teams—everyone's room smelled of Ben-Gay and the ice machine couldn't keep up with the
demands of otir sore muscles!" Though Joan's team did not make it to the semi-finals, she says "It was a
fabulous experience!"
