AOII Chapters Stress Sisterhood

Our collegiate chapters pride themselves on strong sisterhood experiences.
AOII sisterhood is a feeling of belonging to a group of women who accept you
for who you are and encourage you to develop into who you want to become.
In AOII, you can find a place where you feel at home. Conveying this message
of who we are is a vital aspect of every successful recruitment and every
successful chapter.

Spring o f 1 9 4 6 was going to the International Convention at Port H u r o n . R u t h M c D o n a l d Hadzor
was our Chapter President. Her transportation to convention was paid so our advisor, Judy Hauseman,
used that money to buy gas for cars so that all who wanted to go could go. The result was that Alpha
Phi had the largest out-of-state delegation at the convention. Judy was a fabulous advisor and tour
guide and made sure everyone had the opportunity to be part of a national convention. We stopped
in Detroit and met some college boys who had just returned from the service, and they played host to
us for an evening on the t o w n . Detroit was booming back then, getting new cars out after the war.
It was very hot and humid, and R u t h was stuck i n meetings much o f the time, but it was a marvelous
experience. One o f the highlights was having our picture taken, informally, w i t h Stella Perry and
Clydean Morris. Another highlight was w i n n i n g the McCausland Cup. A f t e r the convention, three
of our group went back to Montana and the rest headed East. We toured Casa Loma i n Toronto,
Niagara Falls, Montreal and down the Hudson stopping at the overlook at West Point. Little did
Martha suspect that 3 2 years later she would be at West Point watching her son graduate! We spent
a little time i n N e w Youk City, stayed at the Hotel Lexington and had a great dinner at the W h i t e
Turkey. Then we had our long drive back to Montana. Everyone brought home great memories."
