PAGE 3 Dear Mustang Community, We are all very excited to welcome back all of our students and to jump back into Mustang athletics and activities! One of our biggest goals as a school is to engage students in extracurricular programs and help them understand the importance of being part of a community. It is essential that we maintain support and encouragement to all of our programs. Dedication to this goal, coupled with the hard work of our students, staff, and parents, has produced the excellent tradition of success shared among all of our programs. While championships and titles are great validation of hard work, we value the relationships and connections made between our outstanding Mustangs representing our school. The wealth of talent and diversity in our school makes BVN such a special place, and we are eager to share this with the world. It is what makes us a Mustang Family! It is our goal that Blue Valley North is not only a home to our students, but that you as a parent/guardian also involve yourself with the North Community. A great way to do this is to join The Mustang Club. The Blue Valley North Family would like to THANK the BVN Mustang Club for its continued support financially, as well as in their volunteer efforts. We simply would not be the successful school that we are without the support of our parent booster club. I strongly encourage you to patronize the businesses that advertise in this Activity Program and ask you to please join The Mustang Club as it directly impacts our students on a daily basis. Your ongoing involvement and support are essential to the overall success of our school. I look forward to seeing you all at our Mustang activities and games this year, and it is my honor to cheer on our outstanding students. Mustang Proud! PAGE 20 ORCHESTRA Director: Judy Erpelding Years Teaching: This is my 13th year of teaching, my first year at BVN. Before being at BVN I taught at Free State High School in Lawrence, Kansas. Teaching Responsibilities: I teach 5th grade Beginning Strings at Valley Park Elementary and Overland Trail Elementary. At BVN I teach Concert Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra. I'm also the club sponsor for Mustang Musicians and the Movie Soundtrack Club. Education and Qualifications: I am a violinist/violist and I hold a bachelor's degree in music education from Baker University, magna cum laude. I have been recognized as the NEKMEA 2016-17 Outstanding Young Orchestra Director, the first year NEKMEA gave this honor. I’ve served as the KMEA All-State Orchestra Chairperson in 2019 and 2020, and as the Assistant Chairperson in 2017 and 2018. In 2020-21, I was named the NEKMEA Outstanding High School Level Orchestra Director. In 2022 I was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction by the National Society of High School Scholars, and was a Clinician/Conductor for the 2022 Olathe Kansas School District High School Orchestra Festival. Also in 2022, I was voted as the President Elect of the NEKMEA. Coaching Philosophy: My philosophy in teaching orchestra centers around creating a positive culture with a family feeling, while also instilling pride in achievements. I work to build good relationships with students so that I can hold them to a high standard. This results in an unbelievably enjoyable musical experience that can be seen by all. We work hard every day, and then we enjoy the rewards of giving a performance we can be proud of. I love pushing my students to be the best that they possibly can be. Personal Information: I live in Eudora, Kansas with my husband of 20 years, Darren Erpelding. Darren is also an educator, working at Eudora High School as a Health/PE Teacher, and the Head Boys and Girls Soccer Coach. We have three children: Kate (20), Jayla (17), and Beckham (16). I take pride in finding balance in life with family and career. Season Outlook: This year my focus is on getting to know each student so that we can make the best music together that we possibly can. My goal as a director is to see growth in every student in some way. I'm hopeful by the end of the year, I have a very good understanding of each student's abilities and future goals. We've spent the first half of the year working on fundamentals, making sure that we've all had experience that aligns with each other. In the second semester, I hope to push students with more challenging and exciting literature that will inspire them and foster a true love of performing in an ensemble and learning a wide variety of music. I hope students end the year with a sense of pride in the BVN Orchestra program, and a desire to do more exciting things in orchestra.

PAGE 28 WRESTLING Coach: Dave Tindle YEARS AT BVN: 7th year coaching at BVN, and my first year as head coach. If you count spring and summer seasons as well, this is my 24th season coaching. Wrestling is more than a sport. It is a tool for self discovery, where wrestlers find out what they are truly capable of, when pushed to their limits. COACHING PHILOSOPHY: We will work toward technical mastery of basic skills. Advanced skills are just basic skills, mastered and layered. Our core tenets are: 1) Gratitude everyday for the opportunity to step on the mat. We do not know when that opportunity may end, so we stay grateful and stay present. 2) Growth mindset. There is power in "not yet." Growth mindset focuses us on the right effort and attitude. 3) No complaining. 4) Having fun! We become very good at the things we most enjoy. Wrestling is the hardest sport, and it is important to enjoy the process and have fun, as we build lifelong friendships through shared difficulty. 3.) Assistant Coaches: • Greg Tindle - He is in the Missouri Hall of Fame for coaching wrestling. +40 years experience. • Ronny Wanda - 3rd year with BVN. Wrestled in college in Indiana. Ronny is very easy to get along with and the kids gravitate to him. • Mike Clardy - 4th year with BVN. Played college football and has coached both sports. Scott. • Joel Vazquez - 1st year with BVN. Joel is a BVN alumni and accomplished wrestler. Very talented young coach with an eye for detail. • Stevie Gibson - 1st year coaching wrestling at BVN. She is the head coach for the women's program. Has been softball head coach for 4 seasons with BVN. Stevie is a bright and positive person to have around the program.
