Dear Mustang Community,

We are all very excited to welcome

back all of our students and to jump

back into Mustang athletics and ac-

tivities! One of our biggest goals as a

school is to engage students in extra-

curricular programs and help them

understand the importance of being

part of a community. It is essential

that we maintain support and en-

couragement to all of our pro-

grams. Dedication to this goal, cou-

pled with the hard work of our stu-

dents, staff, and parents, has pro-

duced the excellent tradition of suc-

cess shared among all of our pro-

grams. While championships and ti-

tles are great validation of hard work,

we value the relationships and con-

nections made between our out-

standing Mustangs representing our

school. The wealth of talent and di-

versity in our school makes BVN such

a special place, and we are eager to
share this with the world. It is what makes Left to Right: Cory Cox, Asst. Principal of Curriculum & Instruction;

us a Mustang Family! Mike Moss, Asst. Principal of Activities; Kelli Kurle, Associate Principal of Athletics;

It is our goal that Blue Valley North is not Dr. Tyson Ostroski, Principal

only a home to our students, but that you

as a parent/guardian also involve yourself

with the North Community. A great way to do this is to join The Mustang Club. The Blue Valley North

Family would like to THANK the BVN Mustang Club for its continued support financially, as well as in

their volunteer efforts. We simply would not be the successful school that we are without the support

of our parent booster club. I strongly encourage you to patronize the businesses that advertise in this

Activity Program and ask you to please join The Mustang Club as it directly impacts our students on

a daily basis. Your ongoing involvement and support are essential to the overall success of our

school.

I look forward to seeing you all at our Mustang activities and games this year, and it is my honor to
cheer on our outstanding students.

Mustang Proud!

MUSTANG CLUB
Co-Presidents

Dear BVN Community,
We are so excited about the 2022-23 school year at Blue Valley

North! We would like to encourage you to support the BVN Mustang
Club. (formerly known as BVN Parent Booster Club)

The Mustang Club is dedicated to supporting and elevating excel-
lence for ALL Mustangs. We promote and support the arts, music clubs/
groups, athletic teams, and many other extracurricular activities that enhance the high-school ex-
perience for our students. We can't do this without volunteers and financial support from a great
community of BVN parents.
Joining the Mustang Club and volunteering at school events are great ways to get connect-
ed with other parents, support our students, and get involved in the BVN community. The more in-
volvement we have from our parents, the higher we can "elevate the excellence" within our school
community!
Over the past 5 years, the BVN Mustang Club has granted nearly $400,000 to support BVN stu-
dents. Even last year, given all the obstacles our students and community faced, we were able to
grant over $75,000. We obviously couldn't provide this extracurricular depth and support for our stu-
dents without the generous support of corporate sponsors, parents memberships and time dona-
tions.
The Mustang Club is for ALL BVN families, grandparents, friends, and alumni! Below are a few ways
you can get involved and support our students ~ www.bvnmustangs.com:

Support Financially:
• Become a Mustang Club Member at one of the 5 membership levels available.
• Become a sponsor of the Mustang Club by placing an ad for your business on the website and/
or in the activity guides.
• Purchase Mustang Club "Spirit Wear" online or at our home games.

Volunteer Time, Talent, and Skills:
• Volunteer at athletic and other extracurricular events.
• Join a Booster Club Committee to support a specific event, team or cause.

Engage and Support the BVN Community:

• Attend and help support Mustang Club Social Activities (i.e. Homecoming Parade, Bonfire, Fire-
works, Tailgate Parties, Annual Parent Social, and Buckaroo Bash).

• Join the greatest community of parents in all of Kansas, get involved to help elevate the excel-
lence of our student activities and provide financial support!

Thank you for your support and consideration - Go Mustangs!

PHILOSOPHY: To help all students attain personal excellence through the performance, understand-

SEASON OUTLOOK: I am VERY excited for our Fall, 2022 Marching Mustangs. This incredible group of
students knows how to WORK. They bring a phenomenal attitude every rehearsal, supporting each
other through hard work, lots of progress, and lots of FUN!

We are very excited to present our Traditional Pre-Game show, which will set the tone for exciting
football game nights! Our powerful Halftime Show – “Here Comes the Sun”, is sure to entertain and
impress. The show weaves together music from 20th century classical music giants Samuel Barber
and John Adams (not the president…) with the Beatles hit song which is the title of the show. The
show portrays how light, beauty, and hope emerge from challenge. We’ll also put a sunrise on the
field during the exciting finale of the show. Metaphorically and literally - Here Comes the Sun! We
will perform at all home football games, the BV District Marching Showcase on Monday 10/3, the
Olathe Marching Festival on 10/8, the Kansas Bandmasters Marching Band Championships at KU on

ed to get to work with the wonderful students of the BVN
Bands - I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be! Our
outstanding students are backed by wonderfully sup-

nate in our staff: Mr. McCarty, Mrs. Sipes, Mr. Bet-
zelberger, Mr. Solomon, and Mr. Wagoner are brilliant
educators and world-class humans. We are all proud to
be Mustangs! My wife, Christine, and I are loving every
step of parenthood, as our first-grade daughter Lilianna
turns seven this November, and 3-year-old son Matthew
started pre-school this fall.

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS: University of Kansas Bachelor
of Science in Education & Dance Minor. I was a 4-year
member of the Rock Chalk Dance Team at KU and partici-
pated in the University Dance Company within the School
of Arts.

COACHING PHILOSOPHY: Coaching a dance team means
much more than encouraging these athletes to reach their
fullest potential as dancers. While we strive for excellence
as a dance team, it is my goal to also help these dancers
set high standards for themselves as students and young adults. As a coach, I work to create a cul-
ture that is collaborative and supportive while providing opportunities for athletes to grow as confi-
dent, trustworthy leaders in many aspects of life.

PERSONAL INFORMATION: I was born and raised in Nebraksa, so it has been fun to join and feel con-

full of variety and each dancer
brings their own personality/style to
create a really great dynamic on
the team. The North Stars are looking
forward to performing at home foot-
ball games, girls and boys basketball
games, events within the community
and at school. This year, the team
plans to compete at the Kansas
State Dance Competition as well as
several regional competitions. We
have earned a bid to nationals in

for the road ahead. We appreciate

BOYS SOCCER

Coach: Skylar Roush

I have coached basketball and soccer over the course
of 11 seasons and am going into my 12th year of teach-
ing. I grew up in Shawnee Mission and played soccer at
Occidental College in Los Angeles. I have lived in Brazil
and speak Portuguese conversationally. I received my
Master's in Education from UMKC and am currently
teaching ELL at Olathe East High School. My wife,
Fabiola, is also a teacher at Olathe East and we have
a beautiful one-year-old daughter named Alessandra.
I believe that sports (and soccer specifically) have
helped me make connections across cultural and language barriers and have been a lifetime
source of enjoyment, healthy exercise and friendship building. I wish the same for my players over
their lifetimes. I cannot wait to get started with the boys' and girls' soccer seasons this school year.
