Dear Mustang Community,

We are all very excited to welcome

back all of our students and to jump

back in to Mustang athletics and ac-

tivities! As we return from an uncon-

ventional year, maintaining support

and encouragement to our programs

will be more important than ever. One

of our biggest goals as a school is to

engage students in extracurricular

programs and help them understand

the importance of being part of a

community. Dedication to this goal,

coupled with the hard work of our stu-

dents, staff, and parents, has pro-

duced the excellent tradition of suc-

cess shared among all of our pro-

grams. While championships and titles

are great validation of hard work, we

value the relationships and connec-

tions made between our outstanding

young men and women representing

our school. The wealth of talent and

diversity in our school makes BVN such

a special place, and we are eager to

share this with the world. It is what

makes us a Mustang Family! Left to Right: Cory Cox, Asst. Principal of Activities; Kelli Kurle, Associate Principal of Athletics;

It is our goal that Blue Valley North is Dr. Lisa Stolper, Asst. Principal of Curriculum & Instruction; Dr. Tyson Ostroski, Principal
not only a home to our students, but

that you as a parent/guardian also

involve yourself with the North Community. A great way to do this is to join The Mustang Club. The Blue Valley

North Family would like to THANK the BVN Mustang Club for its continued support financially, as well as in their

volunteer efforts. We simply would not be the successful school that we are without the support of our parent

booster club. I strongly encourage you to patronize the businesses that advertise in this Activity Program and

ask you to please join The Mustang Club as it directly impacts our students on a daily basis. Your ongoing in-

volvement and support are essential to the overall success of our school.

I look forward to seeing you all at our Mustang activities and games this year, and it is my honor to cheer on
our outstanding students.

Mustang Proud!

MUSTANG CLUB
Co-Presidents

Dear BVN Community,
We are so excited about the 2021-2022 school year at Blue Valley

North! We would like to encourage you to consider supporting the BVN
Mustang Club. (formerly known as BVN Parent Booster Club)

The Mustang Club is dedicated to supporting and elevating excel-
lence for ALL Mustangs. We promote and support the arts, music clubs/
groups, athletic teams, and many other extracurricular activities that enhance the high-school ex-
perience for our students. We can't do this without volunteers and financial support from a great
community of BVN parents.
Joining the Mustang Club and volunteering at school events are great ways to get connect-
ed with other parents, support our students, and get involved in the BVN community. The more in-
volvement we have from our parents, the higher we can "elevate the excellence" within our school
community!
Over the past 5 years, the BVN Mustang Club has granted nearly $400,000 to support BVN stu-
dents. Even last year, given all the obstacles our students and community faced, we were able to
grant over $75,000. We obviously couldn't provide this extracurricular depth and support for our stu-
dents without the generous support of corporate sponsors, parents memberships and time dona-
tions.
The Mustang Club is for ALL BVN families, grandparents, friends, and alumni! Below are a few ways
you can get involved and support our students ~ www.bvnmustangs.com:

Support Financially:
• Become a Mustang Club Member at one of the 5 membership levels available.
• Become a sponsor of the Mustang Club by placing an ad for your business on the website and/
or in the activity guides.
• Purchase Mustang Club "Spirit Wear" online or at our home games.

Volunteer Time, Talent, and Skills:
• Volunteer at athletic and other extracurricular events.

• Join a Booster Club Committee to support a specific event, team or cause.

Engage and Support the BVN Community:
• Attend and help support Mustang Club Social Activities (i.e. Homecoming Parade, Bonfire, Fire-
works, Tailgate Parties, Annual Parent Social, and Buckaroo Bash).
• Join the greatest community of parents in all of Kansas, get involved to help elevate the excel-
lence of our student activities and provide financial support!

Thank you for your support and consideration - Go Mustangs!

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Head Coach: Terry Hair

Terry Hair is a retired lifelong educator and varsity soccer coach
with more than 40 years' experience in the Olathe school district.
He joins BVN legend Tom Holland, a current art teacher and retired
soccer coach, to help guide this year's BVN varsity women's soccer
team. Terry and Tom bring their many years of coaching experi-
ence to the team. The coaches' goal is to provide challenging
practices that simulate game situations in order to transfer practice habits into game success.
Abby Small coaches the JV and Sara Collins has the C team. It is critical that women’s sports have
women as role models, and we are truly blessed to have two wonderful women coaches. Both la-
dies played HS soccer and then went on to play collegiately at the D2 and D1 levels. Both are also
accomplished in their careers as an engineer and a teacher respectfully. We feel so fortunate that
our collective BVN soccer staff have the passion to give back to the game of soccer that they love.
Philosophically, our coaching objectives are to put players in a position to be successful, our team
alignment and strategies be built around our individual and team strengths, and to make progress
each day to get better.
Our seasonal outlook is off to a great start so far with soccer tryouts, team selections, and continual
training. We have over 55 out for our three squads and everyone is continuing to work hard making
great impressions. Of our 56 member soccer family, over 30 are freshmen and that speaks volumes
about the future of Mustang soccer. Upcoming games are the tests that await us, and they are the
true evaluators that will assist us in achieving our greatness. We can learn much from our losses and
our victories. Finally, we will strive always to create wonderful memories and build close relationships
that will last a lifetime. Go Mustangs!

GIRLS’ SWIM & DIVE

Coach: Rob Cole

Coach Cole starts his 40th year of coaching and still loves
the thrill of it. He has coached at every level. Over the years
Coach Cole has coached many high school All-State, All-
American, and club national swimmers. His philosophy is,
“From novice to elite, I have a place for everyone.” This is
Cole's fifth year at BV North. He is very excited to lead the
Mustang Swim and Dive Program. He teaches Physical Edu-
cation at Our Lady of Hope in KCMO. He is joined by assis-
tant coach Abigale Elyacharshuster and Amy Hanna.
Shelly King will be in charge of Mustang Diving. Coach King is
now retired after teaching elementary PE for 45 years. She’s
been coaching diving for over 50 years. Her coaching philos-
ophy is to help build strong resilient athletes who can reach
their goals and potential by working hard daily, pushing
themselves to achieve more than thought possible, and all
while enjoying the sport they love!
The coaching staff wants everyone to have fun, learn from
new experiences and improve throughout the season. We
will strive to teach life skills through positive leadership by cre-
ating a program that fosters character and integrity. As we “Stampede our Way to New Traditions,”
our focus will be on developing personal character for each individual on the team, competing at
the highest level and representing Blue Valley North with pride!
Coach Cole says, "I feel every swimmer and diver is on a collision course with greatness. They have
to determine when that greatness will happen." We are Mustang Proud!

THEATRE

Director: Rachel Cain

Years at BVN: 1

Education: B.S. Speech and The-
atre Education; M.F.A. Theatre
Performance; Actors Equity As-
sociation; Educational Theatre
Association

Coaching Philosophy: I believe
that there is a necessity for thea-
tre. When studying theatre arts,
you study humanity. It is through
studying a script or a character
that you discover the social, po-
litical, environmental, and psychological
elements that surround such a work of
art. But it is only with a strong sense of
self that we can explore other worlds
and other characters honestly and crea-
tively. In our attempts to bring these
works of art to life, we embody, empa-
thize, and reshape our perspective
through another's eyes.

Personal Information: I’m originally from
Cape Girardeau, Missouri. I have two
children with my husband, a cat, and a
dog.

Assistant Coaches: Jason Sickel is our
choral coordinator and Joel Wagoner is
the director of our pit orchestra for the
musical.

Season Outlook: To tell stories of
connection, friendship and joy.

TRACK & FIELD

Coach: Mark Fancher

Years at BVN: 6

Teaching Responsibilities: US History, American Govern-
ment, World Geography

Education: Undergrad at Washburn University and Mas-
ter’s degree from University of Missouri in Positive Coach-
ing and Teaching.

Coaching Philosophy: Track and Field can benefit so
many different types of athletes and the sport itself can
teach you different life lessons. Often in track and field
you only get one chance, so it makes you perform under
pressure. Many people think of track and field as an in-
dividual sport, but really it's a team sport and every point
scored at a meet can make a huge impact for the team. One of my favorite coaching quotes is
“Nobody cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”

Personal Information: My wife Grace and I
are both Kansas City natives, We love spend-
ing time with our 11 month old son, Will
Fancher! I enjoy traveling and being outside
and staying active. A fun fact about me is
that I am a Guinness Book of World Record
Holder for the “World’s Fastest Relay Mara-
thon” completed in June 2018.

Assistant Coaches: Garett Aimutis, Jackson
Dinsmore, Brittany Kallenberger, Kiah Koll-
man, Rod Murrow, Jacob Schultze, Juan
Ocon, Jacob Spadoni, Travis Vanderberg,
Ray Williams, Jeremy Winzer

Season Outlook:. We are the largest sports
team in the school and continuing to grow.
We are recruiting in the BVN hallways and
other sports to fill a large team. Athletes have
been working hard in the off-season with
high goals. We have many state returners
and lots of young talent that will step in for
the senior graduates. We have had a state
champion each of the last 4 meets, so we
will see if anyone will continue the streak this
year down at the state meet.
