LIVING WELL RESPITE
The Living Well Respite Centre was established in 2016 with the aim to
provide emotional and social support for our guests and home carers by
offering them a social day out. Our respite services cater to those in the
home caring for someone over 65 with a life-limiting illness or an
serious chronic illness.
At Living Well, carers and their
loved one can come and have a
break, relax, take time to refresh
and regather. Carers are given
the option to leave their loved
one to be cared for and nurtured
by us or to come together for a
fun-filled social day out.
Julie Howe, Hopewell's Service Manager developed the
concept for Living Well after thorough research into
current respite services. Julie successfully submitted a
plan to secure the funding to run a pilot respite program.
After seeing good attendance and growth in it's first year,
the Commonwealth Respite Carelink Centre extended
their funding and also provided the funding for Living
Well Respite to host a series of support workshops for
carers. In it's first year, Living Well Respite won the
award for the best Gold Coast Community Project of 2016
by Volunteering Services Australia.
In 2017, we introduced the Living Well
Carers @ Home Support Workshops.
The objective of the workshop is to
provide support, education, and skills
for home carers that aid in their
caring abilities and help their loved
one remain at home longer.
The Living Well Respite Centre is run by highly skilled compassionate staff
providing holistic care and professional nursing care. We have a qualified
registered nurse, who oversees all medical care. Dedicated professional
counsellors alongside passionate, caring volunteers that provide a loving
family-like environment for our guests to feel valued, refreshed and supported.
Each over 65's respite day comprises of two nurses, a professional counsellor
and stroke support therapist. We also have specially trained caring volunteers
that contribute vital support roles such as: personal care assistants, activities
assistants, therapists and hospitality staff.

HOPEWELL HOSPICE - FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH - 11am to 1pm
OUR HEROS
The activities of the various parts of Hopewell Hospice Services depend greatly
on the contributions of volunteers. In turn, our volunteers find personal
enrichment through being part of our community of care that serves people of
all ages. Hopewell provides a wide range of volunteering oppotunities.
Approximately 80 volunteers work within Hopewell Hospice helping to care for
those facing the end of life and around 50 volunteers work at Paradise Kids,
some assisting as Buddies in our specialised programs to "help heal the
heartache." Hopewell's Volunteer Coordinator helps each volunteer find their
perfect fit within the organisation. They are trained specifically for their role
and supported throughout their volunteering journey with us.

A NEW CHAPTER
Wesley Mission Queensland in 1907,
in the heart of Brisbane in Albert Street Uniting Church and has grown into
one of Queensland’s largest community service organisations, with its own
charitable status supporting over 100,000 Queenslanders every year.
In September of 2018, Hopewell Hospice Services Inc. merged with Wesley
Mission Queensland. This new merger will open up the potential for future
growth and expansion. Deirdre will remain and is thrilled with the
organisation’s new direction.
"If someone had asked us 25 years ago when we started, where we would want to
be in 25 years, I would have said right here with Wesley Mission Queensland.
Hopewell and Wesley Mission share similar faith-based values
and service delivery and are a wonderful fit."
- Deirdre Hanna
Our Merger with Wesley Mission Queensland 2018
25 YEARS ... 1994 - 2019
Thank You for 25 years ... a quarter of a century of love and compassion through
hospice care; for the buildings donated by the community; the people all part of our
story, and the story of hospice in our wider world; the 1743 residents who have spent
their last days with us, their families who receive bereavement support and who come
back in hope and love for the memorial services; for the outreach into people’s homes
as hospice in the home; for the development of Paradise Kids where 4000 or more
children have received illness support and grief counselling and play therapy; the
respite guests who create community while their carers receive well deserve care
themselves.
We are thankful for the beautiful gardens surrounding us; for the café which has
become a hub of nourishment; for the Women’s Group which every week provides
company and inspiration; and for our Co-Founder Rev. Dr Ian Mavor (OAM) himself
whose social justice mission, passion for education, compassion and ministry to those
who Jesus loved ... the poor, the sick, the dying and the children, left a lasting Legacy.
For all these gifts of abundant love and the banquet of hospitality provided for and by
Hopewell, we say ... Thank You. Amen.
