YEAR IN REVIEW

From the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, VNSHS immediately sprung to action taking steps to address the evolving
impact on our patients, workplace and community. Meticulous infection control measures, Personal Protection Equipment, pa-
tient screenings and the expanded use of technology enabled VNSHS to fulfill our mission without interruption as we continued
to serve patients in their home, at assisted living facilities and Hospice House.

As VNSHS clinicians provided home health and hospice care throughout the community, we also witnessed first hand the
impact of isolation, uncertainty and financial stress the pandemic presented. It was important to us to go above and beyond
our normal duties to help in any way we could - bringing groceries to the homebound, organizing a food drive for those in
need, collecting shoes for Soles for Souls, sharing coping tips on dealing with the loss of routine as well as maintaining a sense of
normality and connection, even if that meant going ‘virtual.’

2020 kicked off with the the roll-out of Patient Driven Group
Model (PDGM), a home health reimbursement model
under Medicare, the first major overhaul of the home health
payment system since 2000.
