I could never of predicted the start of 2023. We ended 2022 on a high, surpassing our turnover target and closing the year with £36.7m secured and a further £27m secured for 2023 – It was looking promising… Unfortunately, we didn’t get off to the start I hoped for when we suddenly and sadly had to say our final goodbye to our dear friend Benny. I’m truly touched how the TMJ family came together in grief and demonstrated true strength at such a devastating time. Forever in our hearts, Benny will never be forgotten, please head to page 5 for a touching tribute to an absolute legend. Looking forward in 2023 we have a target turnover of £40m and lots to look forward to. This year is about improving profit, managing overhead increases, making necessary investments, and rebuilding the company's finances after Covid. Exciting reinvestments are already beginning to take shape, such as the transition to LED lighting at Bildeston HQ, a new biomass boiler is on order, and we are hoping to generate a lot of our power from solar panels – watch this space. We have an exciting pipeline of work and an unprecedented amount of project opportunities that span well into 2024 and beyond. Not only are we seeing this in the London market, but also in the regions including Birmingham, a project in Preston and even Edinburgh. Employee Engagement is a hot topic at TMJ and we have a newly formed, dedicated team to assist in the organisation of events for you. The team has hit the ground running with the first initiative being Active April; an exciting, engaging month long event, I encourage you all to get involved – find out more on page 30. I’m also pleased to see the return of Summer Fun Day this year, in addition to the Christmas Party. Our in-house leadership programme SEED has been a great success and it’s been fantastic to hear such positive feedback around it, especially from those who were a little doubtful at the beginning. Watching you all develop and harness your new skills and bond with your peers is fantastic. Across the last quarter of 2022 we had some brilliant projects complete. You’ll find project photographs throughout this edition, alongside some amazing client feedback on page 26; you should all be incredibly proud, I know I am. After a very challenging start to the year the Board and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy Easter and once again thank you for your continued support. Richard Easey 1968 - 2023 Last month we said our goodbyes to our friend Richard, affectionally known as Benny by his TMJ family; a heavy metal rocker at heart who always put his team first and no challenge was ever too big. Benny joined TMJ in 1983 whilst he was still at school working weekends and in the school holidays, before taking a full time position in the workshop in 1984. On completion of his apprenticeship he worked as a Bench Joiner and Foreman before being quickly promoted to our Workshop Manager. He will be sorely missed by us all, rest in peace Benny. www.tmjinteriors.com SPRING CONNECTION | 5

PROJECT WIN P R O J E C T O R BIT 60 Sloane Avenue, London Value: £935k Job Number: 23-260 Programme: February 2023- September 2023 Main Contractor: Mace Interiors Architect: Squire & Partners TMJ Team: Peter Harkin, Chris Gorham, Ian Read, Austen Virr, Alex Hotchkiss, Teresa Gorham Scope: This project spans six floors, from the basement to Level 4, and includes timber doors, reception desk, timber wall panelling, metal panelling to above lifts, WC & shower changing room vanity units, WC cupboards and towel shelving units.
CARING FOR OUR ENVIRONMENT We are currently installing LED light to all areas. This will support TMJ both environmentally and financially. Recently, the upstairs offices have had the small round lights replaced - they had 64 watts per light and were changed to 10 watts per light. Further to this, we are looking at having solar panels installed onto some of our roof space which could save 20% of our energy costs and approximately 39 tonne of CO2. Ecosia is an alternative to your regular search engines that plants trees when it's used! It's free and easy to use and can be set as your home page, used instead of Google or added as an extension onto Microsoft Edge. Ecosia earns profits from ad revenue and uses that money to plant trees. In addition to this, slight behaviour changes can help to save CO2 as well as saving money. This could be anything from switching off the lights when you leave a room, or separating your waste properly.

We were thrilled to be able to support National Apprenticeship Week and meet the next generation of students at our local schools and colleges. We were able to interact with students, discuss opportunities at TMJ, and allow our team, both current and former apprentices, to give live accounts of their journey at TMJ. Applications for our 2023 Apprenticeship Programme are now closed, and we look forward to meeting our future apprentices in September. We received 25 applications and will now begin shortlisting. Thank you all for helping us recruit the stars of the future. To celebrate Bird Box Week, not only did our team ensure the bird boxes in the woods were maintained in time for nesting season, but they also donated a variety of bird boxes to Bildeston Primary School. These will be decorated and placed around the school grounds, sparking an interest in both nature and joinery. NATIONAL BIRD BOX WEEK NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIPS WEEK
We are pleased to now have the WEINIG Cube in the workshop. The cube is more user friendly, therefore it will be easier to train new staff. We should also see a decrease in energy consumption due to the machine being more efficient and having fewer motors to run. Clare Taylor, Procedures & Team Coach SEED UPDATE The SEED delegates have had a busy few months, with the course now over half way through Julie Towns of West Suffolk College has continued to support the group along with some guest speakers. Well done to the SEED Delegates for balancing their daily workloads and teams whilst dedicating time to be part of the collaboration, strengthening of our senior managers / managers here at TMJ. We wish Abi, Hannah, Catherine, Sarah and Liam every success with their ILM 5 accreditation in Leadership and Management, good luck. Firstly, Dr David Hall delivered an insight to Creativity, where you have to think outside the box, become a Super Hero to help solve problems within your organisation along with don’t just think the What Is (where we are working now) to What might be and how changes can be made within the business, with a financial gain. People’s minds were literally blown away with this concept of this style of management/leadership, whilst others had different ideas! With that in mind Dr David Hall came along and presented to the board of Directors, which was received with some head scratching along the way, but a final positive outcome. Following on, Neville Stein delivered a talk on Management and Leadership. Neville’s presentation was very well received and many of the delegates discussed how they appreciate his calm manner, excellent knowledge of his sector, delivering the difference between Managing and Leading and when to use those different styles. With the big question, what is meant by management? The SEED team look forward to Neville presenting again in April / May for a Key Management Skill Session. Other sessions covered under the guidance of Julie Towns including, PESTLE & SWOT, Process Flow & Culture. Along with all delegates taking a personality profiling exercise at the start of the process, a fabulous ice breaker for the start of the course with some interesting results. The ILM L5 Qualification is a short, concise qualification focused on workplace-based activity, ideal for managers seeking to develop their leadership skills and awareness to get better results from their teams and prepare themselves to take on more responsibility. www.tmjinteriors.com SPRING CONNECTION | 23

TMJ SUCCESSION PLAN Planning for our longer-term future is important for our stability, security, and success and I would like to take this opportunity to communicate my succession plan at the start of what is set to be an exciting year. Tim Coll, our current Contracts Director, will be working closely with me over the next two years and he will succeed me as Managing Director towards the end of 2024/early 2025; with my new role being Chairman. I am confident 2023 will be a very strong year for TMJ and Tim’s progression is a positive step for the future, he has some exciting ideas and I have full confidence in his ability for great success. I’m immensely proud of everyone’s effort during a challenging period and delighted we have such a strong and committed team for the long term. A NOTE FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR, JAMES TAYLOR With immediate effect, Tim will become immersed with a broader range of TMJ responsibilities and I will gradually be handing over further key responsibilities to him. Tim’s development will not dilute his leadership of the project teams, and he will remain at the forefront of all things Project Delivery. PRE-CONTRACTS REVIEW A note from Sarah Warren, the Pre-Contracts Director We continue to target London as the hub for work, however we are also looking at projects spread across the country including Birmingham, Preston and Edinburgh. We are also seeing more opportunity in the LifeScience market and continue to focus on this, in addition to commercial and high quality residential. Our teams are working hard to ensure we are building robust relationships with client teams; this combined with our quality product, people and approach makes us the number 1 brand for joinery in the market. We are reinvesting in many initiatives such as solar panelling and a new biomass boiler, not only to make us more sustainable, but also efficient. We have £27m turnover secured to date, with a further £8m of "hot" prospects on the cusp of an order. The pipeline of work in the industry is unprecedented, and this pipeline goes well into 2024 and beyond. Currently our Winning Work strategy is heavily focused on both short term and long term prospects ensuring a good spread of projects across this year, into next. www.tmjinteriors.com SPRING CONNECTION | 33 Hopefully you all attended our latest Quarterly Briefing outlining the year ahead and how we are planning on looking forward.
