( a ) The most remembered day of my life.
For sure, there comes unforgettable days or moments in everyone's life. It doesn't matter if the most
memorable moment in their life was negative or positive, it's still rent-free in their mind for their whole life. In
particular, an event that I will never forget is the day that I met him. A person that I've always thought about,
he's the person that I met on my 16th birthday.
He's tall, tough, and owns a symmetry face. I could say that this person is my safe place, a person that I
can rely on. Imagine having a brother that ain't flows the same blood with you, that's what I felt everytime we
spent time together. He's both my counselor and listener, his personality that has made him my friend was
his honesty. He advises freely and does not even feel hesitate to scold me when he thinks that I'm in the
wrong. He has changed my perspective on life. A timid and introverted girl can turn into a girl who's brave to
speak, not be bullied again and he turned me into a girl that is brave enough to defend myself for the rights.
Back in the day when I was officially 16 years old.
"Time to wake up sweetie," a voice says, somewhere far in the distance. While me, still enjoying the
Cinderella scenes in my dream, meeting my imaginary prince charming. "Wake up," now I can fully be
confirmed that that's my mother's voice, closer now. My sweet dream was ruined when my mother started
to pinch my toes, I guess that is his only way to wake me up as I am not a morning person. Helplessly, I've
to wake up early on this day as it was my birthday. Sitting straight with both eyes closed and hugging my
favourite teddy bear is the first thing that I will do everytime I get up. My mother who just sat beside me now
walk towards my room's window opened the curtains and windows. Curtains flapping both sides of the opened
window and the morning sunlight reflected in the room has lightened up my whole room. My eyes now are
wide open, I then took a deep breath, feeling the invigorating air and cold breeze. I knew that the day is going
to be great.
My heart never stops blooming as I expect that there will be a birthday surprise for me. That morning, I
walked towards my clothes rack, chose the prettiest dress for myself. After dressing up, putting on my
hairband, makeup, and dress, I walked downstairs excitingly. However, everything happened unexpectedly
as I saw that none of my family members put on their pretty clothes, no balloons, no preparations, no cakes,
nothing at all. The scenarios that morning broke my heart. So far, that was my first time not receiving a
birthday surprise from them, not even a birthday wish. It was different, far different from the past year's
celebration.
"We are going to visit the special patients in the hospital," said my father who was checking on his car to
ensure our safety along the journey later on. "Special patients?" I questioned. "Charity work," my eldest sister
who was holding her mug replied. At that time, I feel like my life is worth living, it was my first time doing
charity work. I will be the happiest girl on earth if I could do something that I wished for a long time, charity
work made me forget about my birthday cakes and colourful balloons.
My parents have prepared some food while my sister and I decided to bake some cookies and tarts for the
patients there. Once we arrived at the hospital, my family was welcomed. I told the hospital manager my
wished, I wished to visit patients with cystic fibrosis. To fulfill my wish, she brought us to a ward full of cancer
fighters and cystic fibrosis patients who tried to live a normal life as others do. For me, they are my silent
motivators as they taught me to love my life more.
I stepped into the first room in the ward with a medical mask on my face. It is used to keep the patient away
from bacterias and infections that may affect their health condition. There were two cookies and a slice of
cake in my hand. A boy who was enjoyed drawing on his patient bed stared at me, "who are you?" he asked.
With a friendly smile on my face, I cleared my throat and start to introduce myself to her.
He's now my new friend Jason. He's a cystic fibrosis patient. The ways he lived with his life toucher my
heart. He started to tell about his life story from the beginning. He's the only son in his family and the only
family member that suffered from cystic fibrosis. Patients with cystic fibrosis have to keep six feet away from
the other patient as it may cause infection or they may be difficult in breathing. He did tell me that if two cystic
fibrosis patients meet each other in person, it will increase the risk of each other's developing infections.
Sadly, there's no treatment for them instead of taking antibiotics to protect themselves.
He knew that every second that happened in his life is a great memory for him to remember. When Jason
was telling me his stories, copious tears flowed down my cheeks. Before leaving, I hugged him.
While visiting the kids with cystic fibrosis, I saw Jason with his inhaler and medical mask on his face. He
was playing with the kids there. When I was in the ward, I walked towards Jason and we distributed the cakes
for the kids there.
He never stopped teaching and entertaining the kids. His actions touched my heart as soon as I knew that
he was unable to walk around and play with others due to his health problem.
Now, I could never see him in person again. He was up there in an unknown place, far away from me. It's
my 19th birthday and standing right in front of his grave, one step closer, I told myself he is the most valuable
gift.
