2017 DREAM BUILDERS’ CAMPAIGN
A Message From
Umeeda Madhany
VP, Sofina Foundation
The 2017 Dream Builders’ Campaign has come to a close and I’m thrilled to report that in its
fourth year, we have continued to change the lives of countless families that reside in the
communities in which we operate.
We had the opportunity to visit each Sofina Foods location throughout the campaign to ensure
our employees were aware of where the money raised was going, and who has impacted.
It also gave us the opportunity to thank each employee for their commitment and generosity
throughout the year.
I’m always taken aback after each visit to see the selfless giving spirit of our employees and the
pride they take in being part of an organization that is committed to giving back and making a
difference.
I am pleased to announce that this year was another record breaking year. Our campaign raised
$270,753 for the Children’s Wish Foundation, the Sunshine Foundation of Canada and the
Ronald McDonald House Charities. Every dollar raised was once again matched by Sofina
Foods Inc., doubling our impact.
Since 2014, we have granted THIRTY FIVE individual wishes and impacted hundreds of children
and their families through sponsorship of charitable events. All together, we have donated over
$770,000 to children’s charities.
On behalf of the Sofina Foundation, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for always
embracing our commitment to making a difference. I look forward to working together this
special 5th anniversary year as we move towards breaking the ONE MILLION dollar mark.

FIVE Wish Kids Visit Sofina Employees
Over the course of this year’s Dream Builders’ Campaign, five wish kids met with our employees across
the organization to share the impact of a wish.
Last year, Sydney was one of the wish kids featured on our poster. She
was scheduled to have her wish granted last year, however due to
health complications, it was unfortunately postponed. Sydney visited
our Edmonton North plant and bravely shared her story, handed out
wish wands and even helped Umeeda sell raffle tickets. Her mom
shared that their pending wish continues to allow them to have some-
thing positive to look forward to. As Sydney’s health stabilizes, we look
forward to sharing their trip to visit Harry Potter World at Disneyworld.
On November 8th, charming and charismatic Jonathan visited our Burlington plant with his mom,
Carolina, for a Justice League themed event. It was a great experience for all employees to see and hear
firsthand the impact of a wish. Heather Kirby, Dream Team Lead in Burlington remarks: “All of our fund-
raising efforts are brought to life when we are able to share in the joy we have made possible. It inspires
us to do even better and reach higher heights!! They are certainly both a motivation to all of us here”.
For the first time since the inception of the
Dream Builders’ Campaign, a wish child visited
the Abbotsford Plant to meet our employees.
You may recognize Maya from our poster this
year, and our employees had the pleasure of
meeting her in person. Maya is only 7 years old
and she has had already had 7 surgeries. She,
along with help from her older brother and
father, shared their story and their excitement
for their upcoming wish trip to Disney.
Maya gave her autograph to each and every
employee as a way to thank them for their
support.

FIVE Wish Kids Visit Sofina Employees
For the second time in the campaign’s history, a child from the
small (but mighty) community of Wynyard was identified. The
Dream Team hosted a community function at the Wynyard
Civic Centre which centred around wish-child David, who was
in attendance with his family. The evening, which featured
delicious food, live music, children’s games, face-painting and
raffle draws, was wildly successful, as the close-knit
community rallied behind the cause. A huge thank you to the
Dream Team, community, suppliers and vendors who all
contributed to this success. This community event was even
featured in the local newspaper and radio station!
During the summer of 2015, Frankie, one of the Wish Children we
supported visited Goreway prior to his wish trip.
Two years later, Frankie returned to the plant along with his parents
and sister to thank our employees for making his dream trip on the
Disney Cruise a reality.
His mother, Susanne, spoke about the day Frankie was diagnosed,
and the various challenges they’ve had to face since that day. The
cruise was the light at the end of the dark tunnel that got them
through the hard times. We’re so thankful to the family for joining us
a second time.
To close off the campaign, we invited representatives from Children’s Wish Foundation and the
Sunshine Foundation to our Markham Head Office closing event. So moved by the story Jonathan and
mom Carolina shared with our Burlington employees, we extended an invitation to them to join us in
Markham. The jam packed event featured a Taco-In-A-Bag lunch, provided by JP Catering Inc.,
Jonathan’s journey, a final match of Ping Pong and the Give A Dream, Win A Dream national raffle
draw.

Ronald McDonald House’s Care Mobile visits Calgary Plant
A portion of the funds raised this year proudly supported the
Ronald McDonald House’s Care Mobile located in Calgary.
The Care Mobile is a state-of-the-art mobile clinic that
provides free medical, dental and health education services
to thousands of under-served families in Calgary. The
program offers a number of health and wellness services
including: health screening, flu vaccinations, dental hygiene
and nutrition education.
On Friday, October 27th, the Care Mobile visited the Calgary
Plant where our employees had the opportunity to see first-
hand the program’s benefits. Staff from the House were
onsite to give tours, and provide some goodies as a way to
thank everyone for their support.
PING PONG THURSDAYS
The Markham Dream Team introduced a new fundraising activity this year which was a huge hit—Ping
Pong Thursdays. Every Thursday in the month of November. teams of two assembled during lunch
tournament style to see who would be crowned the first Ping Pong Champion. Employees watched and
cheered on their favourite team, with the final team facing off at the Markham closing event.
Congratulations to our winning team: Raihan Batavia and Lalchand Shivraj, and thank you to all of our
teams who participated.

ANNIE’S WREATHS
Annie O’Reilly, Manager Rebates and Programs at our Edmonton North Office, designs and creates
beautiful wreaths for any occasion. Her wreaths are one of a kind and are meant to tell a story, or inspire
a memory or feeling.
This year, Annie donated her time, creativity, material costs and energy to produce a beautiful, one of a
kind wreath which she donated towards a raffle prize in support of the Dream Builders’ Campaign.
Annie loves to donate and admits to being “addicted to feeling good”.
“Giving is as much for ourselves as it is for helping others. When what you give is
something you created, the feeling is even better”.
We are thrilled to have Annie spearhead the Dream Team for our upcoming 2018
campaign. Annie notes: “as the go-to person for this year’s campaign, the plan is
to solicit ideas from everyone, encourage and organize volunteers for each event
and give everyone a chance to give their time, resources and creativity,
whenever and wherever they can. Success for this year’s campaign will definitely
rely on a TEAM effort!”
