Bukit Tambun is a lovely fishing community with a sweet
past, due to the huge demand for tea in Britain. This

passion inspired the early Chinese immigrants in Bukit
Tambun to grow hectares of sugarcane, resulting in the
creation of the town centre, which consists of a single road

(now Jalan Bukit Tambun) with rows of shophouses.

Some of these stores even go so far as to July 12, 2022
provide elaborate drawings. In fact, there is
a competition to decide whose house is the
best decorated.

tourists. The "rainbow houses" provide good photography opportunities.

As Bukit Tambun is located close to the Jawi River, fishing has been one of the main
sources of income for the community before the arrival of the British.

Many locals make a living by
fishing in this seaside town.
To maximise their catch,
they usually leave before
sunrise. Most of their boats
are still made out of wood.

The fish that are caught sometimes July 12, 2022

lucky day. The catch will be flooded
of fish especially when the tide
goes out.
