Early LIfe
Born on March 12, 1937 in New Orleans, Andrew Young was
born into a middle class family.
Young had to go to segregated schools as a child. He graduated
from Howard university.
Then became an ordained minister after studying at
Connecticut's Hartford Theological Seminary.
Civil rights leader
He moved to New York to work with the National Council Of
Churches. Later on moving to Georgia to lead Citizenship
Schools, which tutorted young afircan americans. Young then
became a member of an organization called SCLC (Southern
Christian Leadership Conference). At the SCLC he met Martin
Luther King JR. While King was behind bars Young was
responsible.
Political Career
Young later then left the sclc and decided to go into politics.
He ran in congress but didn’t win.
Two years later we ran again, and we won.
Young became the first African American to represent Georgia.
Andrew became the ambassador for the United nations.
As ambassador he became mayor of Atlanta for two terms, then
he tried to run for governor but failed.
