He was packed away, deep
down with his brothers and
sisters. It was hot,
uncomfortable, and unlivable.
But the only thing that was
unlivable was himself. His
name was James. James the
Jelly Belly.
James, although, was different.
James felt a passion for life
and its wonders. He wanted
to become part of the world
he sees through his window.
He desired the wide open land
& freedom. There was only
one problem: He’s stuck
No matter how hard James
pushed, no matter how much he
struggled, he couldn’t tear the
surrounding packaging. He
pushed day and night for weeks
upon weeks; the only progress
he made was a small splinter
in the plastic.
But one day a boy and his mother
entered the store. The child
begged for the jelly belly bag,
but the mother did not give in.
Frustrated, the boy swatted at
the bag in a desperate attempt to
snatch it. The boy knocked the
bag off the shelf, and the mother
pulled the boy back.
The bag hit the floor, tearing
a hole in the side. James
along with his sibling flooded
out, going in every which
direction. James’ dream came
true! He was to roam the
world and its wonders . . . if
he could outrun the janitor.
The Janitor rushed for the
displaced jelly beans and
swept them up with his broom,
but James hid unseen below a
shelf. He slowly rolled
toward the automatic store
doors. His hopes of escaping
were coming true!
As he was reaching the door,
and it seemed nothing could
stop him, but life proved him
wrong. The same boy who had
knocked him off the shelf
spotted the stray Jelly Bean.
The child lifted him up from the
dusty floor, and brought James
to his watery mouth.
James thought the boy’s jaw
would hurt more, but instead,
he felt satisfaction… as if this
is what his life’s purpose was.
This is what he was seeking for
the entire time! James lived
down his last seconds enjoying
himself, and being content with
who he was.
