VACCINATION PROGRAMME - UPDATE
The Vaccination programme for both the Booster and Annual Flu vaccines will continue
to be rolled out at the SAGA Vaccination Centre in Westwood Cross throughout
September and October.
Thanet Community Bus Service will continue to run during this period.

BOOSTER VACCINE: All eligible Patients aged 50 and over will by now have received an
invitation to have the vaccine, which, will be the Pfizer vaccine and, as before, you will be
asked to sit and wait for 10-15 minutes following the vaccine.
But please note: You must have had your second vaccine at least 6 months ago to be
eligible.

WINTER FLU VACCINE: All patients over 65 and those considered to be vulnerable and
at risk will have already received an invitation from the surgery to receive the vaccination.
Messages have previously been sent out to patients so if you have requested, and are
eligible to both vaccinations, these can be administered at the same time. Therefore, if
you have not received your invitation, please contact the surgery as soon as possible .
Further up to date information can be found on the following website,
www.nhs.uk/coronavirus and on our FACEBOOK PAGE.

We still have a few patients who are not fully vaccinated or may have initially declined
the vaccine, SO PLEASE BOOK NOW! Vaccines are still available so contact the surgery
or visit the walk-in clinic which is open every Saturday.
Please note; Once you have had your vaccination you may be asked to sit and wait for
10-15 minutes, depending upon individual circumstances.
Covid-19 cases are still quite high throughout Thanet so please DO NOT get
complacent, even if you have been fully vaccinated, because you can still get the virus
and unknowingly, spread it to others! So please, use common sense where necessary and
follow the guidelines.

For Everyone's Safety – “Wash Hands” “Cover Face” “Make Space” “Let Fresh Air In”
and above all “PROTECT THE NHS”
New Persistent Cough? Loss Taste/Smell? High Temperature?
Book a Test - Call 119
PLEASE NOTE: In common with all NHS facilities, it will still remain COMPULSORY to
Wear Face Masks when attending the Surgery.

PLEASE BEAR WITH US
With many of our staff now working at the Vaccination Centre, our resources may be
rather stretched on some occasions, and may take us a little longer to answer the phone.
However, we would like to reassure all our patients that your health and safety are
always our priority.

ROUTINE BLOOD TESTS
Owing to an International shortage of glass tubes we are unable to carry out such tests
at this moment in time. However, if a blood test is required by the hospital, please
contact the surgery for further advice.

SURGERY CLOSURE DAYS
STAFF TRAINING - Thursday 21st October - from 1pm onwards
If you need to see a doctor during these times, please call 111 for non-urgent
confidential help and advice for you and your family.

Our first meeting back following all the Covid restrictions was at the beginning of
September. The business part of the evening included a brief talk about two much
valued and much missed members of Minster WI, Marion Rose and Ann Tweedale,
who both sadly passed away during lockdown. As a show of our support for the families and
affection towards both members, some of the ladies stood outside the church and house during
the funerals and we made wreaths and sang Jerusalem while the entourage passed by.
The rest of the evening was a social get together and catch-up for members and a gentle
reintroduction to our monthly meetings.

PCSO’s REPORT

Dear all,

We were passed this very concerning information which I feel should be

circulated to the wider community!

Posters are being displayed advising the public that masks don’t work but

these posters are designed to injure anybody who tries to remove them. As

you can see from the pictures, razor blades are being hidden on the underside.

So please do take extreme care before attempting to remove any of these

that may be attached to your buildings/establishments

I would also like to share some good work with you……thanks to the diligence of local
residents, some intelligence was passed to us which meant that we were able to intercept
and dismantle a cannabis cultivation which had it not been reported, had the potential to be
quite substantial!

Take Care
Debs

COMMUNITY WARDEN’S REPORT
Dear Minster
I hope you are all well and are enjoying the last throws of Summer.
I’ve only one topic this month it’s ‘ROGUE TRADERS’. I know I’ve mentioned this in the past,
but only last week a resident of Minster was cold called and pressured into unnecessary, vastly
overpriced work.
This person had been charged nearly £5000 for loft insulation!
Luckily this story has a happy ending, the resident was in Greens our local grocers,
they were concerned for the resident and telephoned me, I visited  the resident and contacted
Trading Standards. They have secured the money back and are further investigating the
company.
This could so easily have gone unnoticed but for the community spirt of Greens and in fact all
our local businesses.
Yet another good reason to shop local!

To stop doorstep criminals from scamming you, remember that you must
never:
agree for work on your house or garden by someone who knocks at your
door uninvited.
give money to or sign any forms for people who turn up on your doorstep.
open the door to strangers or allow uninvited callers into your home.
let somebody take you to the bank to get money for them.

You can also report rogue traders via the K.C.C website.
Let’s keep Minster safe and keep looking after each other
Karl

Ageless Thanet Funding Announcement

After an incredible seven years, the funding for Ageless Thanet will end on 31
December 2021. We have thoroughly enjoyed supporting Thanet residents over 50
to reduce social isolation and loneliness through this programme, and we are
pleased to say that, while it may look a little different, our support will continue.
Social Enterprise Kent, which leads the project, is now working alongside partners
to ensure that older people will have access to replacement services in keeping with
the Ageless Thanet ethos of putting older people at the heart of what we do.
We’re delighted to have been awarded the Kent County Council wellbeing contract
for older people, which will enable us to continue popular wellbeing activities
working with Your Leisure, Age UK and other partners. Together, we’ll continue to
reduce loneliness and isolation while creating new and exciting opportunities in
Thanet and along the South Kent coast.
Since 2015, Ageless Thanet has been making Thanet a great place to grow older.
We’re incredibly proud of the achievements shared with our wonderful partners,
staff and volunteers.
Originally funded for five years through The National Lottery Community Fund’s
‘Fulfilling Lives: Ageing Better’ programme, the project has had two extensions to
continue its important work. We’re incredibly grateful to our funders for this
generous support.
In the next few months, we’ll introduce everyone to the different services and
support available and invite you to celebrate Ageless Thanet’s achievements with
us. Our fantastic volunteers will join a celebration of their prestigious Queen’s
Award, while Ageless Thanet participants are invited to join us at an event to learn
about what’s still on offer and discuss any questions or concerns they may have.
Social Enterprise Kent is also working hard to capture everything we’ve learnt
through the last seven years of the project and to make this freely available to other
organisations. Learning reports and events are available on
www.agelessthanet.org.uk/learning
Our team continues to be on hand to answer questions and connect people with

St Mary’s Church A season to remember…

The past 18months have been hard for people in so many different ways. There has been
much sadness and grief as we mourn people who have died. Indeed, it has been difficult in
many instances to attend the funeral of someone close. November has often been
described in the church as a ‘season to remember’.
During November there are two special services at St Mary’s, Minster to which you are
invited.
Also the church will be open each weekend where you will find a place to light a candle in
memory of a loved one, with some prayers too.

All Souls Service
Tuesday 2 November
7.30pm @ St Mary's, Minster

This is a special time to come and remember a loved one who is no longer with us. We
remember all those who have passed away recently. You are very welcome to join us and
if you would like to have someone remembered please contact Richard our Vicar
(821250).

Parish Remembrance Service
Sunday 14 November

10.45am @ St Mary's, Minster

Please come and join the Royal British Legion, the Minster community, St Mary's church
family and the Salvation Army as we pay our respects at our annual Service of
Remembrance. (Covid restrictions allowing)
