MINSTER TWINNING ASSOCIATION Est 1980

Not much to report this month as illness has hampered the VILLAGE GLASS

meeting and the organised visit to France. WINDOWS - DOORS

However the quiz went ahead as planned and it was a great CONSERVATORIES etc
evening. As always, thanks have gone to all who helped make
it a success – the quiz master and scorer, the bar staff, the Free Quotations
caterer, the Legion for allowing us the use of the hall and all the Tel 01843 821 147
participants. There was great excitement as the final scores
including Answerphone

were read out, with 2 teams tied. The tie breaker was given and

once again both teams gave exactly the same answer. After a R. Eyres local handyman

final shoot out, Carl Ashby’s team took the title of winners and Property maintenance, landlord repairs,
painting & decorating, flat pack assembling
took home their prizes of a bottle of wine each. Congratulations and many others

to them as top scorers and condolences to the close runners up. 07415 660 152

The next quiz will be on Saturday 25 June, with 5 tables already

taken! Note it in your diary if you’re interested.

As mentioned earlier, illness prevented us going to France with

the exhibits for the French art and craft exhibition. There’s

always next year!

An invitation was sent to the Anglophiles in Armbouts Cappel

to join us for the village “Party in the Park” on 2 June. They

explained that it would be difficult for them to come on the

Friday due to work commitments, but there are plans for

meeting up on the Saturday if they are able.

MINSTER SHED IS NOW READY TO OPEN

“Opening on 5th and 7th of April from 10am to 1pm”
at the rear of The Bell Inn, St Mildred’s Rd

It was last July when we had our first SHED meeting and those attending were determined
to get the project off the ground. Firstly, we needed a premises, not easy to find when
you want it at a cheap rent or rent free, but after someone’s suggestion we contacted the
Bell Inn, where after a meeting they were happy to give us use of one of their outbuildings.
In fact, they also agreed to put in new lighting and a multitude of sockets, for which we
cannot thank them enough for their generosity.

Next came the task of raising some money and thanks to our local Thanet councillors
we were given grants from the Local Community Fund to get us started.

At the end of December, we had access to our premises and proceeded to clean and
decorate the workspace. We've built workbenches and storage units and a most important
kitchen area complete with kettle and microwave.

Thanks to the generosity of the people of Minster we have been given an array of
machinery, tools and fixings, including a lathe, mortiser, chop saw, jigsaw and so much
more. Also, a big thank you to Howdens who gave us a quantity of kitchen units which
we have adapted for our use.

We have had a team of hard-working volunteers who made all this possible.

MINSTER’S CHRISTMAS 2022
At the beginning of March, we held our Christmas
meeting where we discussed how to decorate our
village for this year. We are going to make some
more small “alternative” trees to spread around the
village and also make some smaller ones for the
lampposts.
These lamppost trees are made using different size
green granny squares with white edges. Each tree
requires:- 12 squares - 3 x each size, using DK wool
and 3.5 crochet hook.
Size 1. 2 green rounds then 1 white round
Size 2. 4 green rounds then 1 white round
Size 3. 6 green rounds then 1 white round
Size 4. 8 green rounds then 1 white round
Anyone willing to make some
and requiring more details
please let me know.
Store them flat to save space,
later in the year we can
hopefully have some get-
togethers to sew them into
trees.
We will also need more multi
coloured squares finished
with green in either knitting
or crochet to a size of 4 or 5
inches square to make some
more 6 ft “Alternative” trees.
Feel free to contact me if you require more details.
MINSTER’S SECOND COMMUNITY CHRISTMAS
EVENT will be held on Saturday 10th December
2022 from 4pm to 6.30pm. Put this date on your
calendar!!

Anita’s Flowers PCSO’s REPORT
@ Greens of Minster Hello all,
ASB – Anti Social Behaviour.
24A Monkton Road I thought that I would take the time this

The legal definition of ASB is –

T: 01843 822 212 cause harassment, alarm or distress.
M: 07889 308 748 Conduct capable of causing nuisance or annoyance to a

Facebook: anitas flowers at greens Conduct capable of causing housing related nuisance or
annoyance to any person.
Free local delivery Key words being HARRASSMENT, ALARM, DISTRESS,
NUISANCE, ANNOYANCE.
ASB can include, noise, neighbour disputes, vandalism,
criminal damage, shouting and swearing, intimidation to
name but a few.
We are experiencing some intermittent ASB in the village
at the moment with the throwing of items, particularly eggs,
at residents’ properties. As we as adults know, this type of
behaviour can be frightening to vulnerable people and a
complete nuisance to many others. Why should a resident
have to go out with soapy bucket of water and clear away
mess from the front of their property or car or whatever
item the egg has hit. This is also deemed as non-permanent
criminal damage and the culprits, when they are caught, will
be named on a crime report.
Our homes are our private space, our sanctuaries and it is
completely unacceptable for anybody to assume that is is
funny or clever to cause any type of disruption to a persons’
quality of life.
If you witness or are the victim of or even if you know who
is causing any type of ASB at any time please report it
immediately.
You can report a crime online or via LiveChat at Kent Police.
If you have a hearing or speech impairment, use our
textphone service on 18000. In an emergency, call 999.
On a brighter note, the sun is shining, Spring is definitely
upon us.
I look forward to seeing you around the village.

COMMUNITY WARDEN’S REPORT

Dear Minster
14th March 2022, was Dog Theft Awareness Day and I know dogs are a big part of village life so I hope this advice
helps keep them safe.

How To Prevent Dog Theft And Keep Your Pet Safe At Home
Keep thieves away from your home and your pup by making sure you have done all of the below.
•Ensure your house and property boundaries are secure – keeping your dog in and intruders out.
•Install a sensor light and fit sturdy locks to garden gates. This will prevent trespassers gaining easy access to your property.
•Join your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme.
•Report any suspicious activity to the police.
•Do you post pictures of your dog on social media? Then regularly review your privacy settings and make sure your address can’t be
identified from your posts.
•Ensure your dog is microchipped, has up-to-date contact details, and is wearing a tag with YOUR name, phone number and address on
it. All of these are legal requirements and will ensure your dog is easily returned, should they go missing.
•Have your dog spayed/neutered. Not only does this mean your pet will be less likely to stray, it may also prevent theft for breeding
purposes.
•If you plan to use services such as a dog walker, groomers, house sitter or a boarding kennel, do your research to ensure you are using a
legitimate and reputable service.
•Do not advertise the fact you own dogs. Avoid placing dog ownership placards or notices on the front of your property.
•If you are a dog breeder, be careful about who you are inviting into your house for viewings.

Keep Your Dog Spottable At All Times
Always knowing where your dog is, means thieves won’t have a chance to get hold of them. Here are a few things to keep in mind when
you’re outside with your pooch.
• Keep an eye on your dog when they are in the garden and never leave them unsupervised.
• When exercising your dog off-lead, always keep them in sight and pay attention to what they are doing.
• Make sure your dog comes back when you call them, regardless of where they are.
• Never leave your dog unattended in a public place - even if it's just for a minute. If you’re going in to a shop or to a café, for example,
why not check if your dog is allowed inside? You may be surprised!
• Likewise, never leave your dog alone in a car. As well as the risk of being stolen, they can also easily overheat.
• Keep up-to-date, clear photos of your dog, making sure to show any distinctive features.

If Your Dog Is Stolen
In the unfortunate case that your dog is stolen, follow our below advice:
• Report the theft to the police, ensuring you get a Crime Reference number and insist that your dog is recorded as stolen and not
missing.
• Report your dog’s disappearance to your microchip provider as they can notify you when your dog has been found.
• Report the theft of your dog to your local authority dog warden. They will notify you should your dog turn up in their kennels.
• Report the theft to missing/stolen animal websites such as DogLost, who help reunite missing pets with their owners by offering free
advice and support.
• Be sure you have plenty of recent pictures of you with your dog. These can come in useful when proving ownership and also showing
what your dog currently looks like (e.g. they may have had their hair cut).
• Social media is a great way to raise awareness of your stolen pet. Post details of the incidence and pictures of your dog, making sure
your settings are on ‘Public’ to reach as many people as possible.
• Post on all the platforms you can and ask your friends and family to do the same.
• Ask your followers to share your posts.
• Search social media platforms. If someone finds your dog, they may have posted about it themselves. So, search for identifying
features and the location your dog was lost. For example, you could try ‘dog found in Kent’ or ‘brown Labrador found.’
• Tag animal charities, vets, microchip database providers and local businesses. Ask them to share your posts.
• Monitor websites and places where thieves may try to sell on your dog (pet shops, notice boards) and notify the police immediately if
you come across anything.
• Contact local animal centres, rescue charities, your local vet and any neighbouring practices, so that they are aware of the incident and
can keep an eye out for your dog.
• Check with neighbours, fellow dog walkers and businesses and consider handing out flyers/posters.
• Approach your local media , including this magazine, who could help publicise your missing dog. This may also be a good way to raise
awareness about the issue and prevent further dogs being stolen.
• If you want to explore your legal options, the Citizens Advice Bureau may be able to assist.

Keep safe Minster
Karl
