For anyone seeking information about Public
Rights of Way, footpaths, bridle paths etc. here in Kent,
KCC have produced an excellent interactive website. Just
Google ‘Kent County Council Public Rights of Way map’.
All the footpaths are shown (all have numbers rather like
road numbers), so it’s easy to plan great new walks.
There is an interactive feature which allows anyone to
report problems and subsequently track them and it is
also possible to see intended scheduled works.

Foot Path Officer for virtually all the Parishes in Thanet,
plus - Ash, Chislet and Wickhambreaux. If there is a path
issue that I may be able to help with, then contact me at

many hundreds of miles of footpaths in Kent but only a
small team at KCC with responsibility for these and only
a limited budget!

Housing Development Threat in Minster
Minster Action Group Update

Some of you may have seen the BBC SE News Today programme on the 11th February in which
I had a very brief opportunity to highlight our village. I was disappointed that some of the rest
of the interview was not aired in which I highlighted several of the issues facing the village with
large scale development, but I appreciate that time is limited for these programmes and
consequently much of it was edited out. However in a news item that was about Thanet I am
pleased that I was able to put Minster on the map and we are gathering support for our cause.
Several people have reached out and emailed me, you are now on the list of people to update
where Facebook is not accessible to you. I would be pleased to receive more requests to add to
the list so that the Minster Action Group can provide more detail to people who do not use
social media. Email – [email protected].
A very helpful website has recently been launched called the ‘Community Planning Alliance’, set
up by volunteers to support campaigning groups across the country in their efforts to address
local planning issues. I would advise you to take a look, it’s very informative and helps guide our
thinking when preparing for objecting to applications submitted.

Go to www.communityplanningalliance.org
The Minster Action Group has now begun to meet every 2nd Monday evening and we are busy
exploring various routes for objection to the North Foxborough Lane/East Tothill development.
When the time comes we will make available information to help you to personally object. Our
learning from this will without a doubt guide all of us with any future large scale development
causing a threat to Minster which may well present itself.
A request was made for the group to create a letter with everything needed that residents could
print and sign. As much as this would be a great way to get many people to send in their
objections the sad news is that this would in effect be deemed a petition, given that every letter
would be the same and petitions are not accepted as objections for matters such as these. Instead
we will do our very best to supply the objection details with advice and links to relevant evidence
and then we would ask that residents use that information to write into TDC via the various
means when the time comes using their own words. There will be limited time in which to do
this so everyone will need to be on the ball and get their objections in quickly. At this stage, we
cannot be sure when any applications will be submitted from the developer but we will do
everything we can to alert residents when it does.
On the back of this page there is a ‘Farmland for Food’ poster which we hope you will cut out
of the magazine and pop in your window for all to see. We are trying to actively ‘shout’ out
loud about the approach from developers to just take the easy route and build on farmland. The
current local plan of approximately 17,000 houses (without the extra 4-5000 they say we need)
sees around 1730 acres of Thanet farmland being concreted over, it will not take much building
on agricultural land to make farms unviable and then it really is a slippery slope so I hope that
you will support the cause and send out a ‘village shout out’ that we are protesting about this,
as well as the good old mantra of buying local from outlets who themselves purchase from local
farms, a certain way of letting those farmers know that we value their place in our community.
Many thanks to everyone who has engaged with us in support of this cause, please keep sharing
and talking about it!

The meeting was closed at this stage to allow members of
the public to speak in relation to a planning application to
build two 4-bedroom dwellings on the site known as
Quartacre, Bedlam Court Lane, Minster. Mr. Rochford
spoke of concerns about the increased height, the current
premises being a bungalow and the proposed structures
being two storeys. Mrs. Dyas raised the issue of surface
water drainage given the increase in footprint of the
proposed new builds, and the removal of the trees/bushes
along the southern boundary.
When the meeting was re-opened members discussed the
points raised and agreed to arrange a site meeting to hear
the concerns of residents and review the application before
a response is prepared. (This took place on the following
Monday and a response objecting to the development,
unless certain conditions are fulfilled, has been submitted).
Public Questions:
The locked barrier between Rose Gardens and Kenton
Gardens was raised; unfortunately, this is not a public right
of way therefore residents were advised to write to Orbit
Housing to appeal their case.
Cycle racks are disappearing in the village and not being
replaced. The parish council will ensure sufficient cycle
racks in the car parks; the remaining areas will be taken up
with KCC.
The dangers of the junction in Foxborough Lane on the
approach to Bedlam Court Lane junction from the west
were highlighted and it was agreed to contact KCC

Covid-19 VACCINATION PROGRAMME - UPDATE
IMPORTANT INFORMATION - NEW VACCINE CENTRE

With the closure of the SAGA building at Westwood Cross, it has been necessary to relocate the Vaccine Centre which
is now located adjacent to “Wickes Building Supplies” and “Currys Electrical Store” and will be called “Thanet (Broadstairs)
Vaccination Service (LVS)”
Once again there will be plenty of car parking on site, it is also on various bus routes, and will be open every Tuesday and
Thursday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm and Saturday’s from 8am to 5pm

SO PLEASE; DO NOT GET COMPLACENT!
Even with the relaxation of rules, cases numbers in Thanet are still worryingly high, especially throughout the schools.
There is no shortage of vaccines, so if you are not fully jabbed or even double jabbed, get your vaccination now - there’s
no need for an appointment just Drop-In!

So, who’s eligible?
* Booster jabs are now available for everyone over 18 but please remember there must be a 3 month period since your
second vaccination.
*Older teens aged 16-17 are now eligible for a second dose but it must be at least 12 weeks after their first and then
likewise for their booster jab.
* Those aged 12-15 are now also eligible for a second dose after 12 weeks.
* Those aged 5-11 where they or their family are clinically vulnerable.
* Clinically vulnerable and immune suppressant patients are also now eligible for a 4th vaccine.
Not had yours yet? There are still many patients who are unvaccinated and many others who have not yet had their
second vaccine. So don’t wait until it's too late! You can still get seriously ill with Covid-19 or worse, infect others!
For further information see the “MINSTER SURGERY” Facebook page.
PLEASE NOTE: It is still mandatory to wear a face mask when attending the surgery, thank you.

Repeat Prescriptions
Please ensure you submit your prescription request at least 3 working days beforehand to allow processing time at the
surgery and your chemist. Requests submitted prematurely will be held until the due date, unless a specific reason is given.

Annual Reviews
During your consultation it may be possible to consider issuing 3 monthly prescriptions to certain patients, so please ask
your Healthcare Professional to discuss this with you.

Dr M. Van Vuuren
Dr M. Van Vuuren has decided, after nearly 20 years at the Surgery, to hang up his stethoscope and retire. On behalf of
his patients and friends we would like to wish him a long and happy retirement.

“FACE-TO-FACE” Appointments
Patients will continue to receive a telephone consultation from a doctor before being offered an appointment with the
relevant healthcare professional. Currently 81% of patients are receiving a face-to-face appointment where necessary.
PLEASE NOTE: Appointments CANNOT be made by email, only via telephone or “Econsult“

PCSO’s REPORT

Hello all,

As I write this report, Storm Eunice is blustering her way through Kent and I am hoping that

everyone has remained safe.

As Spring is almost with us, I thought that I would share some safety advice on how to help

protect your belongings – it is titled Spring into Action!

The top five items stolen from sheds are:
1. Bikes
2. Mowers
3. Sports equipment
4. Power tools
5. Garden tools

Please consider these crime prevention tips to protect your shed, garage and garden buildings this Spring:
Never leave doors unlocked when you are not around
If you have a detached garage in a block, consider fitting additional security locks to the door to
reduce the risk of offenders prising it open
Check whether your home insurance covers the contents from theft
Remove valuable equipment like laptops from outbuildings used as offices
Use strong padlocks on doors with no exposed screws and pay attention to hinges, which can be
easily removed
Consider securing windows with wire mesh or grills
Alarm it – there are systems on the market for all budgets
Security mark and register tools and other items so they can be identified at immobilise.com
Lock your tools inside a locker or box or secure them with a chain
Secure bikes to the ground or a lockable stand and drape an old sheet or blanket over them to keep
them covered from view

Thorny or prickly plants can be a deterrent in strategic positions, such as underneath windows or below walls
and fences
Ensure hedges and shrubs are trimmed back to prevent areas intruders could hide or observe you.
Crunchy gravel is also good for paths or areas around outbuildings.

On a different note, I would like to inform you that that since “My Community Voice” was advertised in last
month’s issue of Minster Matters, there has been a significant uptake in members which is very good to see.
(If you didn’t sign up last month the web address to do so is www.mycommunityvoicekent.co.uk)

is just rha (or rheum, if you prefer Latin). It is actually a native of www.sarahthornetheatre.co.uk
