JAKE’S 18th RIDE TO REMEMBER continues to amaze us with his positive spirit and
Another amazing turnout for the 18th “ride to is doing brilliantly so much so he did the ride on his
remember” for Jake. Over 50 people came to do the motor chair from the Grove ferry back to the British
challenging ride over 23 miles (none of us getting any Legion. As always.. THANK YOU so much for being
younger) we always have newcomers and they are very great friends and family and continuing to make our
welcome but most are the family and friends who return “Ride to Remember” such a wonderful day, God bless
every year, most of whom haven’t sat on a bike since you all xxxxx
the year before (hence the challenge) but it is ALWAYS
a brilliant day with so much love and laughter who
wouldn’t want to do it. This year I must mention the
youngsters another NEW generation to continue as
older members maybe stop, they were brilliant hope to
see you all again. A special mention to Scarlett Smith
who at 9 years old not only finished it but smashed it in
honour of her grandad who passed away very suddenly
this year but who had always joined his daughter
Kelly every year on the bike ride (we were thinking of
you Richard). We always call in the several pubs on
route as you know, it’s not that we want to but people
are pleased to see us every year so it would be rude not
to.
Cynthia and Doreen put on a great spread at the Grove
ferry picnic area where we stayed for a while and we’re
joined by all the people who didn’t ride but still want to
be a part of this special day. I would also like to mention
my brother-in-law Ken who after a spinal stroke was
left paralysed he has been on a hell of a journey and

VINCE, WENDY AND THE BELL INN

Vincent and Wendy they’re a treat,
When visiting the Bell,

They make you feel welcome as soon as you’re there,
Making sure everything well.

‘Want a drink?‘ Vince will shout,
With his friendly boom,

As soon as you enter the door that is,
His voice lights up all of the room.
Wendy will come to take your order,
Making sure you don’t go without,

And what’s on the plate when it comes out,
You don’t without a doubt

Drinks are on hand all the time,
If you want one as a sub,
Well, of course, after all,
It is a blinkin’ pub!

Then the dessert, after the main,
If you’re belly’s not bulging and sore,
Well once you’ve seen the dessert board,
You’ll say ‘I’m sure I can squeeze in a bit more’

Then after all that it’s home time,
After, of course, payment is done,
And that don’t come to all that much!
And it was really worth all the fun.

MINSTER TWINNING ASSOCIATION
May we take a brief moment to think of our late beloved
Queen Elizabeth II who passed away earlier in the month,
but who will always be in our thoughts and the thoughts
of our friends in Armbouts Cappel. We know she was
admired and loved worldwide so it was no surprise to
receive condolences from France, all of which will be
added to the official condolence book, held at W.S. Cole.
A wreath from both Twinning Associations has been laid
amongst others at the base of the flagpole in Minster.
Souvenir booklets and newspapers will be given to the
committee in Armbouts Cappel on our next visit, which
we know they will appreciate. Please see a touching
drawing from the 8yr old son of a member of the French
committee, which we think shows the love and respect
for our Royal family that they hold so dear, well-done
Enzo.
On 3 September we were invited to attend the ‘Culture
and Sport Association Forum’. The youths’ football club
expressed an interest in re-igniting the practice of
football matches. Contact details have been exchanged
and we hope for a positive outcome at a later date.
We still have a few spare tables for the Quiz on 15
October, so please contact Carol on 07745 683 466 to
book.
Advanced notification of our AGM. This will be held in
the Sports Pavilion at the Rec on Friday 18 November at
7 pm, all are welcome. Light refreshments will be served
after the meeting.

ATTWELLS UPDATE!!

The new business owners, who live in
Sandwich, are husband and wife Pritesh and
Bhavna. They plan on making Attwells a
Premier Store which will enable them to act as
an independent and cater for people’s needs.

Building works will commence when plans
and paperwork are confirmed. This will include
moving the staircase in the centre of the shop
(where the drinks fridge was) to the side of the
shop and removing two central pillars making
the shop open plan and increasing the floor
area.

Throughout the building there will be
renovations including floors, walls, ceilings,
plumbing, electrics, shop front, shop fittings, air
con and security systems, therefore they will
be looking at opening in the early part of 2023.

Cllr. Quittenden who continues to carry out sterling work in and

around the car park and plans to plant more trees in the near future.

The Chairman was concerned about winter hardship and put

forward the suggestion that the parish council should be

considering what help may be needed by local residents in view

of the energy crisis and the general rise in the cost of living. It was

agreed that she should contact local groups and organisations and

suggest a meeting to discuss what steps may be taken to provide

assistance. This may be a warm place of resort, hot food and

drinks etc. The council have a small fund in reserves in an old

account which could be drawn upon.

The meeting discussed recent planning applications and agreed

that although there was concern over highways issues with every

application, there was no reason to object to the extension of

White’s Distribution centre and the possibility of a gym at the

service area.

Cllr Quittenden reported that Iain Livingstone, Head of Planning

at TDC, attended the last meeting of the Thanet Assn. of Local

Councils. He responded to many questions on planning and when

the subject of enforcement was raised admitted that in the last

year there have been 350 complaints yet they only have 2

enforcement officers!

The Twinning Association are discussing an exchange between

the Under 8 and Under 10 football teams in the respective

towns/villages, as well as plans for the 25th anniversary in June

next year to be hosted in France. Plans for a coach are being put

into operation. Other events were discussed.

In the public question period Mrs Stace said that anti-social

behaviour around the bus shelter near the entrance to Hillminster

had resumed, including eggs being thrown at their windows. It was

agreed that there needs to be a review of CCTV in that area.

Mr. Smith has suffered anti-social behaviour since August last

year at the lower end of the village. A group of 4 or 5 youths throw

eggs, vegetables etc. at properties and have taken to wearing

hoodies and balaclavas to avoid identification by CCTV. This can

occur after midnight on occasions. This activity has increased and

many calls have been made to the police. He welcomed the

suggestion of arranging a meeting with the police and other

agencies to address the problem. Someone also raised possible

child protection issues. Comments were made about the lack of

youth services.
