Britain’s Got Talent ... Hold On, is that the Minster based Village Voices?

Ever wondered what the best thing is for a hang-over the morning after the best Minster W.I Octoberfest
Party EVER (thank you ladies)? How about a trip to London to perform at Britain’s Got Talent, a sobering thought!

Why BGT? Well, to simplify the introduction given by our illustrious leader, Debbie, to the film director on the

day; Our choir is a community of individuals, each with our different backgrounds and personalities brought

together by chance, to spend our time every week and sing for the love we have of music. Well, it was the second

round !

I would go on to add that it is therapeutic to belt out a tune, but the surprise is this; Village Voices has over

60 members since forming in January and collectively can hold a melody and even harmonise together. Where

did this talent come from?

On this point I am sure we would all agree that the credit goes to

Debbie, who is a real super-trouper by the way, for inspiring enthusiasm

for this in our community, because there is a real sense of ‘esprit de corps’

in our coming together, and a strong regard for the group and its

contribution which is becoming more evident with the increase in charitable

performances.

So, apart from clearing my head, perhaps the trip to audition for BGT

was more than an outing to London for the experience of it, perhaps deep

down we believe that our choir has

PATIENT LIAISON GROUP

A BIG THANK YOU
We would like to thank all our Patients and Friends for their generosity and kindness in donating so many prizes for our
raffle and tombola that was held at our Christmas Bazaar, and also, to all those who have supported us by purchasing
raffle tickets and making such a wonderful selection of cakes. You can keep an eye on how our fund raising is going by
checking out our notice board in the waiting room. In the meantime, we are also looking to purchase a new ‘Examination
Couch’ with automatic controls, for Dr Crosfield’s consulting room, we will publish further details later.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR - PRIZE WINNERS MINSTER POST OFFICE
As this newsletter goes to press before our Bazaar has taken place, and for those who were not able to attend, a full list
of prize winners will be displayed on our noticeboard in the surgery. Wherever possible, all prize winners will be
contacted directly by telephone and invited to attend an official presentation. A full report will be published in the first
issue of this magazine in the New Year.

Should you need to see a doctor during times when the surgery is closed, please call the NHS 111 Service direct, on 111 . Cards/gifts, wool & DIY Items
where you will receive non-urgent confidential health advice and information for you and your family. For urgent/life
threatening cases, please dial 999 as normal.

REPEAT PRESCRIPTIONS
Please ensure that you have sufficient medication to last you throughout the holiday period and that all ‘Repeat
Prescription’ requests are submitted in good time to allow for the increased demand, both at the surgery and at the
various pharmacy’s, and remember to check your local pharmacy’s opening times as well. Also ensure that if your
prescription is due during the holiday period or if you are going away, check that it will be available for collection in
advance before Christmas.
Obviously, we appreciate that “urgent” prescriptions may still be needed at any time.
Also, if your ‘MEDICATION REVIEW’ is due during this period please ensure you make an appointment in good time, to
avoid further unnecessary delays.
If you have any concerns please contact the surgery direct on 821333

FRIENDS AND FAMILY SURVEY
Thank you to all those patients who responded and please continue to do so. We welcome all your feedback, good and
bad, because they help us to continually improve our service to all our patients.
Last month we received 320 responses to the question “Would you recommend our Practice to your family and friends”
whose responses were: Extremely likely/likely 93%, Extremely unlikely/unlikely 4%, unsure/don't know 3%.

MISSED APPOINTMENTS
25 patients did not attend their doctor’s appointment, a big improvement thank you, however
51 did not attend their nurse’s appointment, many of which were for flu vaccinations, unbelievable.
So that’s still 76 missed and wasted appointments and a further £12000 of NHS funds.
So, a plea to all our patients throughout the villages and surrounding areas, next year if you don’t need it, please cancel it.
It’s so easy, by phone, text, or online, just do it.

PATIENT GROUP MEETING
If you have any issues you would like to raise at our next meeting, or require further information on any of the above,
then please contact either Ken Self on 821200, Jeanne Lawrence on 821049 or email [email protected]

AND FINALLY - We would like to wish all our patients and friends a very Happy Christmas and a very healthy New Year.

VILLAGE VOICES ENJOYING A GREAT WEEKEND
(This could be you !! Do you love to sing? We’d love you to join us)

Minster Matters

VILLAGE VOICES

What a great weekend the Choir had on 2nd and 3rd November. We started off on

the Saturday with a combined Charity Concert organised by the Thanet Lions, in St

Mary’s Church, singing both with and alongside the Thanet Male Voice Choir. The

church was packed!! Wow, what a wonderful turn out in such horrible weather. Thank

you to everyone who came and supported both us and the TMVC.

It is hoped we will shortly have video copies of the Concert available on DVD, if

anyone should want one, these will be on sale at the very reasonable cost of just £1.50

all of which will go into the choir’s funds. To obtain your copy please contact Ray

(Mr.O) on 07914 623 287 or email [email protected] .

The event’s final total has still to be disclosed but it is expected to be around £2,000

meaning that the Minster Matters Mobility Scheme will benefit from a donation of

£700, whilst St Mary’s Church will also benefit from a donation of £250. (The team Image courtesy of Thanet Lions
at Minster Matters would like to thank the Thanet Lions for both organising the concert

and for including us as a beneficiary).

Sunday 3rd, a much better day weather wise, saw us boarding a superb
Kingsferry coach at 9am (which was kindly sponsored by Paul & Martin

at B.A.R., Demis & Mickey at Drink Warehouse UK Ltd and GTI Export

Consultants) to take us to the ExCel Centre in London for our BGT

audition, what an amazing day we had. We entertained our coach driver,

Paul, on the way, having two or three run throughs of our two chosen

songs, George Ezra’s ‘Paradise’ and Mama Cass Elliot’s ‘Make Your Own

Kind of Music’. Later we amazed our fellow opponents by singing

‘Paradise’ a cappella a couple of times, whilst we awaited our 15 minutes

of fame!!

Debbie was amazing, as usual, giving the BGT Crew a complete run

down on our background and conducting us in her very enthusiastic

Image courtesy of Thanet Lions manner. We were even allowed to sing both of our songs, so we now
await news, in Dec/Jan, as to whether we will progress to the next round,

fingers crossed everyone!!

If you’d like to see us in action before Christmas then we will be singing at the Birchington Christmas Fair on Sunday 8th

December, in Church following the Community Carols at the Lych Gate on the evening of Tuesday 17th and during the afternoon

at the ‘Christmas Wonderland’ at the Old Vicarage in St Mildred’s Road on the 22nd.

If you’d like to join our choir, we’d love to welcome you at any of our

practice evenings, 6pm on a Wednesday at the Salvation Army Hall in

Tothill St, just £1.50pw. If you’d like to book us for an event please email

[email protected] or phone/text 07914 623 287

BREAKING NEWS
Following reconciliation of the Charity Concert income, Thanet
Lions will donate £250 to St Mary’s Church and £1,000 to the
Minster Mobility Scheme. A further donation will be made to the
Monkton Nature Reserve Shed Project at a later date, after
consultation with the Trustees.
We hope to be able to publish further details in our next issue.

SALE OF KNITTED POPPIES TO CHOIR MEMBERS
The Choir had previously decided to wear poppies for both
the Charity Concert and for their trip to BGT. Choir member
Sarah Mather suggested they purchase knitted poppies that
were left over from the village tribute to ‘The Fallen’.
Members donations for these were added to the RBL Poppy
collection box in Attwells, and we’re pleased to say that this
gesture raised a further £36.34 for the appeal.

On the 8th November a coach full of Minster residents left to
travel to Tunbridge Wells where we were booked to see the Art
and Garfunkel story at the Assembly Hall Theatre. After some
time to look around the town we arrived at the theatre where we
enjoyed two hours of brilliant entertainment. In fact, it was
difficult to believe it wasn’t the real duo. We have our secretary
Carol to thank for organising such a good day out.

On Sunday 10th November, nine of our French friends from
Armbouts-Cappel came to join us at the Remembrance Service
in Minster Church. After the service they joined us at the cemetery
to lay wreaths at the War Memorial. We then moved on to the
Royal British Legion where we enjoyed an afternoon of
entertainment and a delicious buffet before they had leave to get
their ferry back to France.

On the following day the 11th November, nine members of our
committee travelled over to Armbouts-Cappel to join our French
friends for their Remembrance Day Service and to lay wreaths

with the villagers (we laid wreaths from the Twinning, the Parish We then had the privilege of being invited to join the Mayor and
