November 2021 Minster Matters 9
A social meeting has been arranged for Thursday 10th November 2021, 7pm in the upstairs room
at The Bell Inn, Minster.
Everyone who is organising events and anyone who wants to help out both on Saturday 11th
December or putting up decorations in the village on the 27th November are all welcome.
This is a chance to meet and get to know each other.
Elf makers are also welcome.
I am really pleased to say that children and teachers from Minster Primary School have
agreed to make the Christmas lanterns for the Churchyard for our Event Day on
Saturday 11th December 2021.
Well done, to you all and we can't wait to see your work.
From 1st December
I will be putting up about 50 Christmas related cards around the village. They will each
have a number on them. The December issue of Minster Matters will include an entry
sheet which will need your child's name, age, and contact details. If you don't get a
form then feel free to make your own. Children need to find all the cards and write
down what picture goes with what number then post the completed form through the
letter box on Attwells side door. All entries to be in by Monday 20th December 2021.
Hopefully the pictures will stay up but if you notice some are missing then please let me
know and I will replace them. I will be checking regularly just in case. Thank you and
happy hunting little ones.

Protect Your Garden
● Maintain hedges and fences to prevent unwanted
visitors from entering your garden.
● Close your garden gate and lock it from the in-
side.
● Store bins and ladders carefully so they can’t be
used as climbing aids.
● Store tools and equipment somewhere secure
after use so they don’t get stolen or used to
break into your home.
● Secure sheds and garages with suitable locks and
consider fitting shed alarms and security lights.
● Disable lawn mowers and other large machinery
when not in use and chain items together or to a
solid anchor point.
● Security-mark valuable items – taking photo-
graphs and recording details such as serial num-
bers and identifying marks which can also help to
identify items if they get lost or stolen.

PCSO’s REPORT
Dear all,
I hope that this issue of Minster Matters finds you well.
Summer is coming to an end and Autumn is definitely showing its colourful
existence. We are all aware that this is the season that brings Halloween!!
Although this brings great excitement for the children and many adults, we
must remember that for some, who are vulnerable or who live alone, it can
be a very anxious time. Can I remind those of you who may dread Halloween each year
that if you feel worried YOU DO NOT HAVE TO OPEN YOUR DOOR.
I have put some leaflets in the Library which read “NO TRICK OR TREATING PLEASE”
with the Kent Police logo on, please help yourselves. (Editor’s note:There is also a poster
available on page 28 of this magazine)
And parents and responsible adults, please respect and encourage others to respect any
posters at houses that are asking you not to trick or treat.
Further safety advice for parents, carers and responsible adults: -
At this time of year check your smoke alarms! Use battery operated lights for your lanterns
instead of candles.
Many costumes are flammable so take care around candles and naked flames.
Please make sure that children go trick or treating with an adult, never alone. If not going
with you then please make sure that you know where they are going and what time they
will be home. Take care crossing the roads, children tend to get very excited and forget to
look before they cross and begin to run!!
I have disseminated a similar message to Minster and Monkton Primary schools for the
benefit of parents/carers of attending children.
Have fun and stay safe.
Take Care, Debs
COMMUNITY WARDEN’S REPORT
Dear Minster
Another month has flown by it's getting colder and the nights are
drawing in, but something to look forward to in the dark is …. fireworks!!!
I hope you all enjoy the firework display, which is on the 5th at the
Recreation Ground.
Gates open at 6, fireworks at 7, should be a good event it's free of charge
and organised by the Parish Council, so no need to let off random fireworks, annoy your
neighbours and scare pets, organised events are so much safer than home displays and
you can spend what you save on a meal from one of our lovely local takeaways!
One last thing hi-vis is great in daylight but in the dark try to have something reflective
so that you can be seen.
Thanks Minster and stay safe,
Karl

STAYCATIONS
Over the last few months, we have seen borders
around the world re-open. Of course, some people
remain cautious, but others are ready to travel
again – travellers have been able to visit friends
and family abroad, make important work trips, or
just get some well-deserved R&R. For each one of
us the ‘right time’ to return to travel will be
different, but thankfully, we are slowly and safely
seeing restrictions ease. This, coupled with
booking flexibility, means that there are travel
opportunities again for those that are ready.
Summer 2021 saw the rise of the staycation! It summer! P&O, Princess and Disney Cruise Lines,
has been wonderful planning Scottish self-drive were amongst those who offered popular ‘cruises
itineraries, getting families together to stay by our to nowhere’, enabling guests to experience their
beautiful coastline, and of course facilitating ships, enjoying great food and entertainment close
clients taking ‘Seacations’ on many of the to home. We also saw a gentle return to European
fabulous cruise ships that came to our shores this travel under testing and vaccine guidelines. We
have seen brides and grooms finally tie the knot in
Cyprus, families making memories in Spain and
people taking well needed time out to process the
last 18 months on the Greek Islands.
Now that the weather in the UK has turned people
are thinking about alternatives to our darker
evenings! I am booking cosy UK cottages with
wood burners and hot
tubs, escapes to the
Maldives and Caribbean
to get some sun, as well
as festive trips - but let’s
not mention those just
yet!

St Mary’s Church A season to remember…
The past 18months have been hard for people in so many different ways. There has been much
sadness and grief as we mourn people who have died. Indeed, it has been difficult in many instances
to attend the funeral of someone close. November has often been described in the church as a ‘season
to remember’.
During November there are two special services at St Mary’s, Minster to which you are invited.
Also the church will be open each weekend where you will find a place to light a candle in memory of a
loved one, with some prayers too.
All Souls Service
Tuesday 2 November
7.30pm @ St Mary's, Minster
This is a special time to come and remember a loved one who is no longer with us. We remember all
those who have passed away recently. You are very welcome to join us and if you would like to have
someone remembered please contact Richard our Vicar (821250).
Parish Remembrance Service
Sunday 14 November
10.45am @ St Mary's, Minster
Please come and join the Royal British Legion, the Minster community, St Mary's church family and the
Salvation Army as we pay our respects at our annual Service of Remembrance. (Face coverings are
optional and this year, the service will be slightly shorter)

Services across the villages
You are welcome to attend any of our services across the Benefice.
At each church it is possible to sit with friends although there are also areas where
social distancing is maintained should you wish. Face coverings are optional, but we
are mindful of people who may feel vulnerable.
We are singing again, and you will find something familiar in our worship and
welcoming faces at each of our churches.
