MINSTER TWINNING ASSOCIATION
As mentioned in the last issue of Minster Matters,
we received many letters of condolences for the
passing of the Queen from Armbouts Cappel, but one
very important email was received after our report had
gone to the printers. We would like to say how
honoured we felt that Jean Luc Darcourt, Mayor of
Armbouts Cappel, sent his personal condolences and
those of their village, to Minster.
On 20 September, several newspaper first editions
and magazines were taken to France as a souvenir of
the Queen’s life. These were gratefully received by our
friends and shared amongst the committee to
distribute accordingly. We visited the library and saw
a wonderful photographic exhibition of the towns of
Northern France. Whilst there, we were pleased to see
that a selection of the English books we had previously
donated were on display and used in conjunction with
the pupil’s lessons. (One of the photos submitted in
this issue shows our English Speaker from Armbouts
Cappel, Celine, using our books and her understanding
of our language to conduct readings in English on
Halloween).
At the end of the school year, all of our books will
be shared to the schools’ network libraries in the
Dunkerque area. Pupils and parents alike, are very
grateful for the idea of the book exchange and pupils
consider that they are lucky to have this facility.
Our quiz this month, appears to have been hit with
winter ailments, so attendance was much lower than
normal. The evening went ahead and still proved to
be a success. Thanks went out to all helpers and
supporters of the evening.
Minster village have been invited to the celebrations
of the 25th anniversary of the twinning which they will
be hosting on 25 June 2023. The format will be
different than previous years, although an afternoon
of entertainment will be included, but obviously more
details will be available nearer the time. We will
endeavour to book a coach if we have enough support
and hope to be able to subsidise the fare. This proved
to be a very successful event pre covid, so if anyone
might like to be considered, then please show your
initial interest by contacting Carol on 07745 683 466

Anti-social behaviour in Minster Anita’s Flowers
@ Greens of Minster
Minster is a law abiding and safe place to live. It has its problems like all
villages but it has a very supportive community. 24A Monkton Road
Minster
However, we are suffering from an increasing number of incidents of
anti-social behaviour and this is making the lives of some residents a misery. CT12 4EA
T: 01843 822 212
Imagine it is evening, you are in the house alone or maybe with a husband M: 07889 308 748
or wife, son or daughter. You hear sounds outside. Loud banging begins on E: [email protected]
the windows or doors. You realise things are being thrown at you house, into Facebook: anitas flowers at greens
your garden, maybe hitting your car. You look out and see a group of hooded
youths outside. How would you feel? Anxious? Worried? Angry? Free local delivery
A number of young boys, early teens in age, have for many months been
doing just this throughout the village.
They have been throwing eggs, fruit and vegetables at houses and over
garden fences, striking windows, doors and sometimes vehicles parked
nearby. They shine torches into windows. They make threatening gestures
to the occupants.
This is happening to houses from Tothill Street to Church Street, from
Monkton Road to the High Street and many locations between, on numerous
occasions, not just a one off. Some of the householders have spent hundreds
of pounds on CCTV, such is their concern for their safety.
Many of these boys run around the church yard, over the graves, in the
dark with torches, disturbing nearby residents, banging on the windows of
the village hall. They think it is fun…not for the local people on the receiving
end.
Some play games on the railway line, daring each other to stay on the line
as long as possible before the train comes.
The great majority of young people in the village conduct themselves in a
creditable manner. However, a small minority may not fully understand the
impact of their actions.
If you have teenage sons, do you know where they are in the evening?
What they are doing? We are collecting CCTV images and eventually the
Police may be knocking on your door. But we would rather you spoke to
them and just stopped this anti-social behaviour.
If any of this happens to you, call the Police. They may not get there in time
to catch the boys concerned but we need the calls to be recorded so we can
show we need more Police presence in the village. And if you have any
information, please contact the Parish Council office. (01843 821339)
Thank you.
