COVID-19 VACCINATION PROGRAMME - UPDATE
The vaccination programmes for both the booster and annual flu vaccines
will continue to be rolled out at the SAGA Centre in Westwood Cross
throughout September and October.
Vaccinations are now available to all 16/17 years old with the majority being
offered and already received their vaccination, so if you have not had yours,
please contact the surgery or visit the walk-in clinic on Saturdays.
Booster vaccines: All eligible patients will receive an invitation,
approximately mid-September, to receive the vaccine, which, at this moment
in time is likely to be the Pfizer vaccine.
Winter Flu vaccine: All patients over 65 and those considered to be
vulnerable and at risk will receive an invitation from the surgery to receive
the vaccination and messages are already being sent out to enable ordering
and clinics to be planned. The practicality of giving both vaccinations at the
same time is also being considered.
Further up to date information can
be found on the following website and on our Facebook page.
www.nhs.uk/coronavirus
Currently we are receiving supplies of both the Oxford AstraZeneca and
Pfizer vaccines, so if you have not yet received your first or second dose of
either vaccine or may have initially declined the vaccine, please BOOK
NOW!
Please note; Once you have had your vaccination you may be asked to sit
and wait for 10-15 minutes, depending upon individual circumstances.
Covid-19 cases are still quite high, especially in the under 35s ‘so: Please DO
NOT get complacent, even if you have been fully vaccinated, because you
can still get the virus and unknowingly, spread it to others!
So please, use common sense where necessary and follow the guidelines.

Obituary JOAN FENKEN
07/10/1919 to 11/08/2021
Joan sadly passed away on 11th August at the age of nearly 102 years.
She was a resident of Yoakley House in Margate, but before that she lived
very happily in Minster for nearly 40 years.
Joan had a very interesting life and had travelled the world with her
husband who was a diplomat. Her deep interest in birds was founded in
Chile and Venezuela. She and her husband, Tim, were involved in the
setting up of the Sandwich Bay Bird Observatory.
Joan was a committed Christian and supported many causes and people.
She will be sadly missed.

Minster
Is A Remarkable
Village!!
In a few short weeks the project to restore the Minster Church Clock Face has
raised £6,374, THAT’S RIGHT!! £6,374!! of the £15,000 needed.
This figure has been reached by a combination of contributions to the ‘JustGiving’
website, personal donations, a stall at the yard sale at Attwells (Thanks Karen) and
many other ad hoc contributions from Minster residents and from many people
outwith the village.
This generosity has many back stories that relate to people’s memories with
Minster Church. Some have expressed fond memories such as marriages,
christenings, and many personal experiences.
In the pipeline is a Saturday afternoon concert at the end of October, details to
be finalised and a soon to be advertised Grand Raffle with many valuable prizes.
In addition, Karen is to hold other yard sale at Attwells in September.
In the next issue of Minster Matters we hope to publish a very interesting story
concerning the Church Clock by a local well-known resident. Watch this space!
The ‘JustGiving’ site at
is the place for online donations or Minster Garage is very happy to
receive contributions. There are also several collecting jars around the village.
As a result of this spectacular generosity of Minster residents and the many others
outside of the village we will be able to start planning the restoration sooner than
anticipated. We will keep you informed of each stage of the process.

PCSO’s REPORT
Dear all,
When asked to contribute something to the magazine I try to ensure that the advice that
I give is relevant.
Advice surrounding fraud may seem obvious to some but for many others a few simple
tips could be crucial in preventing a fraud occurring in the first place.
An example of this is cash machine/ATM fraud –
It’s a good idea to scan the area around ATMs before you use them. Be aware of anyone
standing close by and always check the machine to see if it’s been tampered with before
you use it.
Tell-tale signs of ATM fraud: Things to look out for are devices attached to the machine – some are more
obvious than others. If you do see something suspicious contact the police and the bank.
Remember, if it doesn’t look or feel right then steer clear and, if possible, go inside the bank where it will
be safer. And always keep a regular check on your transactions.
Be alert: We know it’s not always easy, but try to be aware of anyone near you when you’re at an ATM.
Being aware of your surroundings and not being distracted makes it harder for people to take advantage
and less likely that they’ll try to.
Thieves will watch as you key in your PIN or distract you while you’re withdrawing cash. Be vigilant. Cover
your PIN and keep an eye on your card at all times. If someone taps you on the shoulder or tries to speak
to you, just ignore them. When you've left the ATM, put your card away immediately.
You should also be careful with contactless cards. You can get a card holder to prevent your card details
being inadvertently read.
On a more positive note, Village Voices held their first indoor practise back at The Salvation Army Hall on
18th August. It was as if we had never been away. The choir sounded better than ever and we don’t appear
to have lost any members, in fact we have gained a few more!!
We are looking forward to performing in public again soon.
Take care and stay safe, Debs
COMMUNITY WARDEN’S REPORT
Hello again Minster,
Well, it seems my faith was rewarded and restrictions have in the main been lifted, it’s been nice to see lots
of people still wearing masks in crowded places although I do realise it’s a personal choice.
So that’s the good news, but the lockdown has brought out the rogue traders and fly tippers, I have
reported a number of fly tips to T.D.C. this month and unfortunately I have been working with Trading
Standards visiting people in the village who have been exploited by rogue traders, so try
to remember, to stop doorstep criminals from scamming you, remember that you
should never:
agree for work on your house or garden by someone who knocks at your door uninvited
give money to or sign any forms for people who turn up on your doorstep
open the door to strangers or allow uninvited callers into your home
let somebody take you to the bank to get money for them
If you are unsure about what to do, or need some advice please get in touch, I have
leaflets that might help or we could just have a chat.
A quick mention about fly tips... you can report them directly to T.D.C. via their website at thanet.gov.uk or
an easier way, if you have a smartphone, is to download the Country Eye App available for both Android
and I.O.S.
Thanks Minster, Karl
