Sekapur Assalamualaikumwarahmatullahi Wabarakatuh dan Selamat Sejahtera, Bertemu kembali dalam Buletin Mekanikal Edisi Pertama bagi tahun 2023. Alhamdulillah, kini kita sudah berada di pertengahan tahun 2023. Segala perancangan yang telah dibuat pada awal tahun diharapkan selari dengan garis masa dan dapat dicapai sebelum berakhirnya tahun ini dengan jayanya. Perkongsian Buletin kali ini memberi tumpuan kepada aktiviti-aktiviti yang telah dirancang dan dilaksanakan dengan jayanya sejak Januari 2023 sehingga kini. Antara aktiviti menarik yang telah dijayakan adalah Program Tanggungjawab Sosial Korporat (Corporate Social Responsibility – CSR) bersama Zoo Negara anjuran Kelab Cawangan Kejuruteraan Mekanikal (CKM), Majlis Perjumpaan Pengurusan CKM bersama warga CKM tahun 2023 dan Majlis Penyampaian Anugerah Pencapaian Istimewa CKM bagi Tahun 2022. Ruangan perkongsian ilmu edisi kali ini, memaparkan kertas kerja bertajuk An Investigation of Noise Emission Level at KTM Railway Tracks Around The Community oleh Ts. Mohd Saifudin bin Abd Razak yang telah dibentangkan di Program 4th JKR Research Colloquium 2022, Pusat Kecemerlangan Kejuruteraan dan Teknologi JKR (CREaTE). Diharapkan dengan info yang disusun menerusi medium Buletin ini dapat memberi manfaat dan membantu di dalam meningkatkan produktiviti kerja warga CKM khususnya. Di kesempatan ini, saya ingin merakamkan ucapan ribuan terima kasih kepada semua warga CKM yang telah memberikan sepenuh komitmen di dalam menyumbang kepada kecemerlangan perkhidmatan cawangan ini. Perjumpaan Pengurusan CKM Bersama Warga CKM Tahun 2023 Pada 21 Mac 2023 telah berlangsungnya Majlis Perjumpaan Pengurusan CKM Bersama Warga CKM bagi tahun 2023. Acara tahunan ini diadakan bagi mendengarkan amanat Pengarah Kanan CKM, penyampaian anugerah pencapaian istimewa kepada warga CKM bagi setiap pencapaian yang telah diperoleh sepanjang tahun 2022 dan turut diraikan majlis persaraan warga CKM yang bersara pada tahun 2023 Majlis telah dihadiri oleh Pengarah Rekabentuk, Ir. Suhaili bin Mansor, Pengarah Khidmat Pakar, Ir. Hjh. Aishah Hazlina binti Md Dean bersama-sama ketua-ketua Bahagian CKM dan seluruh warga CKM dari pelbagai gred. Sesi pagi dimulakan dengan Ceramah Motivasi: “It’s Time to Refresh Ourselves” oleh En. Rahmansyahputra Bin Afrizal dari Kementerian Kerja Raya. Selanjutnya majlis diteruskan dengan Majlis Sanjungan Budi Lestari Kasih bagi meraikan persaraan tiga kakitangan CKM iaitu Ir. Zalina binti Mohd Yusof, Encik Zaidi bin Abdullah dan Encik Ros Madi bin Jamaludin. Majlis diteruskan pada sesi petang dengan penyampaian amanat Pengarah Kanan CKM yang telah disampaikan oleh Pengarah Rekabentuk. Majlis diakhiri dengan penyampaian Anugerah Pencapaian Istimewa 2022 kepada warga CKM yang telah melakarkan pencapaian istimewa dan sumbangan sepanjang tahun 2022. Antara kategori anugerah yang disampaikan adalah anugerah pencapaian akademik, kompetensi, inovasi, penyerahan projek CKM, pembentangan kertas kerja, EKSA, sukan, penghargaan sumbangan tugas-tugas khas, bahagian terbaik dan diakhiri dengan Anugerah Tokoh CKM 2022. Mesyuarat Tahunan Kumpulan Pelaksana Mekanikal JKR Malaysia Tahun 2023 Memperkasakan Pendigitalan Perkhidmatan Mekanikal di Era Endemik Pada 22 hingga 24 Februari 2023 Cawangan Kejuruteraan Mekanikal (CKM) telah menganjurkan Mesyuarat Tahunan Kumpulan Pelaksana Mekanikal JKR Malaysia 2023 di Pulau Langkawi, Kedah Darul Aman. Ini merupakan mesyuarat pertama sejak negara dilanda wabak Covid-19, mesyuarat terakhir yang telah diadakan adalah pada tahun 2019 di Cameron Highland, Pahang Darul Makmur. Mesyuarat kali ini dihadiri seramai 90 orang peserta melibatkan kumpulan pelaksana dari jurusan teknikal dan kumpulan pelaksana bukan teknikal dari CKM, Ibu Pejabat JKR, JKR CKM Negeri dan kader seluruh negara. Perjalanan mesyuarat ini merangkumi mesyuarat, ceramah, pembentangan kertas kerja dan sesi interaksi bersama Pengurusan CKM dan Bahagian Pengurusan Sumber Manusia, Kementerian Kerja Raya. Mesyuarat hari pertama dimulakan dengan taklimat perjalanan mesyuarat, diikuti dengan pengesahan dan maklum balas minit Mesyuarat Tahunan Kumpulan Pelaksana Mekanikal Tahun 2019. 06


Mesyuarat diteruskan pada hari kedua dengan sesi pagi dimulakan dengan program Knowledge Café: Keseronokan Bekerja oleh Puan Tengku Maliana dari Pejabat Kebajikan Masyarakat Daerah Langkawi. Menerusi program ini peserta didedahkan dengan cara menangani tekanan mental dan amalan yang boleh dipraktikkan bagi meningkatkan motivasi dan keseronokan dalam bekerja. Sesi petang diteruskan dengan pembentangan empat kertas kerja oleh para pembentang. Kertas kerja pertama bertajuk Penjagaan Kenderaan dibentangkan oleh Encik Asmawe bin Abd Wahab dari CKM Ibu Pejabat. Kertas kerja kedua bertajuk Lesson Learnt Kes-kes Forensik oleh Encik Afiq bin Mohamad Johari dari CKM Ibu Pejabat. Kertas kerja ketiga bertajuk Peranan dan Tanggungjawab Penolong Jurutera Mekanikal di Jabatan Alam Sekitar oleh Tc. Razman bin Sabtu dari Jabatan Alam Sekitar, Kuala Lumpur dan penutup hari kedua diakhiri dengan pembentangan kertas kerja keempat bertajuk HRMIS – Pengenalan Kepada MyPerformance oleh Encik Aliman bin Md Saad dari CKM Ibu Pejabat. Hari terakhir mesyuarat dimulakan dengan sesi Forum Bersama Pengurusan CKM, Bahagian Pengurusan Sumber Manusia KKR dan Bahagian Perkhidmatan Mekanikal. Menerusi sesi selama dua jam ini para peserta dapat berinteraksi, mengutarakan pendapat dan soalan kepada pihak pengurusan CKM dan wakil KKR. Mesyuarat ditangguhkan dengan ucapan penggulungan dan penutup oleh Pengarah Kanan CKM. 07


AN INVESTIGATION OF NOISE EMISSION LEVEL AT KTM RAILWAY TRACKS AROUND THE COMMUNITY Noise is one of the physical contaminants affecting human life. The objectives of this study is the investigation of the noise levels emitted by a train affecting school and residential areas located along the KTM railway track alignment which is at SK Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Kuala Lumpur and Kompleks Kediaman Kakitangan Awam (KKKA) Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur, respectively. The scope of the study is noise measurement using 3M Soundpro model SE/DL Sound Level Meter taken from 8.00a.m to 5.00p.m and comparing the field measurement noise data with the Guidelines for Environment Noise Limits and Control, 2019 by Department of Environment Malaysia, as well as circulation of questionnaires and analyzing the noise satisfaction level of the surrounding society based on perception, acceptance and satisfaction using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 26. The study concludes with the suggestion on noise level reduction by installation of the suitable noise barriers such as natural plants and brick wall, as well as extending the study to other locations with barriers and various land used categories. INTRODUCTION Malaysia is one of the developing countries in the world and is growing rapidly each year. According to the Department of Statistics, the total population of Malaysia is about 32.68 million in 2019. The capital city of Malaysia is Kuala Lumpur with a population of about 1.77 million in 2019. Most of the population in Kuala Lumpur and Klang Valley travel to work every day using cars, motorcycles and public transportations, such as buses, taxis, trains and e-hauling services. However, the use of road transportation causes congestion most of the times and wastes travel time. The need for an efficient and convenient transportation system such as railway services is an important development agenda in the Klang Valley, especially Kuala Lumpur. As we know, the railway services are the greenest transportation services, which are widely use all over the world. Most of the railway services are operated using electrification system and contribute the lowest carbon emission. Nevertheless, there is a common problem stemming from the operation of railway services, namely noise pollution. The development, operation and maintenance of railway system have contributed to noise pollution. RAILWAY NOISE One of the primary sources of noise with a negative impact on the environment and community wellbeing is the transportation system, including railways. Comparisons between rail and road transport have shown that the railway system has lower emissions of air pollution, lower fatality risks and able to reduce traffic congestion. Railway services, however, is associated with noise and vibration pollution. Equivalent and maximum noise levels at distance of 20 m from the railway track in the residential areas were found to be approximately 20 dB, exceeding the permissible noise levels for rail transport. In nearly 80% of all measurements, noise tests exceeded the permissible levels during the day. There are various train parts that produce noise especially the wheels. Train noise can be categorized into two types, namely internal and external noise. Human voice, frictions that create sounds in the carriage, sound from the coach's motions and the operator's voice when making an announcement are among the types of sounds that could affect the passenger comfort when the train is in operation. Railway external noise can be encountered along open tracks, depots, stops, stations and any other holding locations. ABSTRACT Ts. The external noise can be determined as primary and secondary noise. The primary noise is generated during vehicle movement such as rolling wheels on track, brake squeals, movement at curved segment of rail alignments, traction and auxiliary machines, air turbulence, noise produced by running gears, noise from pantograph and others. The secondary noise comes from the signal form locomotive and shunting operations. METHODOLOGY Case Study Location The location of the study areas covered various communities and land uses located along the railway alignment which were affected by noise generated by the train operation. Two different land use area locations were selected as study subjects and for data collection. The first location selected for this study was SK Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah located at Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Kuala Lumpur and was established since 1888. This school operates in one school session in the morning only and serves primary school students from Standard to 6. There are a total of 46 teachers and 4 staff members working together with 80 students during the school session. The premise is located lower than the railway track with a slope distance of 5 m from the boundary to the track. Figure 1 a) shows the location of the premise. The second location selected for this study was Kompleks Kediaman Kakitangan Awam (KKKA) Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur. This is the government staff quarters with 10 blocks of multi-storey residential buildings. The selected study location was at Block E located besides the KTM railway track consisting of 60 nos. of house. The premises are located higher than the railway track with a slope distance of 20 m from the boundary to the track. The location of the premises is shown in Figure 1 b). Onsite data measurement is very important to investigate the noise level at the selected locations. Meanwhile, the questionnaire distribution will gather the information on the level of community satisfaction at the study location. Data Collection 09


Noise Measurement The questionnaires were distributed to 110 nos. of the target group of the respondents comprising teachers, staff members and residents as the premise occupants. However, students were not involved in filling up the survey to ensure data validity. The sample size of respondents to answer the questionnaire was determined by referring to the method of determining the sample size from a given population and it was conducted based on the random sampling method. The scale of the questionnaire to express the respondent satisfaction was in the Likert scale of 1 to 5. The questionnaire was developed according to those of previous studies. Section A covered the demographic data of the respondents with six questions to collect data regarding location, age, gender, job, education level and period of exposure to noise at their location. Questions 4 to were developed to value the levels of disturbance and annoyance and the opinion of the respondents regarding the effect of train noise on health. Questions 8 to 0 evaluated the effect of train noise on respondents' daily activities at the workplace. Finally, Question summarized train noise satisfaction level of the respondents at their place. The field measurement noise data was compared with the acceptable limits in the Guidelines for Environment Noise Limits and Control, 2019 by Department of Environment Malaysia. Two sets of noise level measurements were taken from a distance of 10m and 20m for each location on different days with a total of 40 nos. noise sample data selected for further analysis. Based on the analysis of the 40 nos. of noise data samples, it was found that the mean of maximum noise level, LAmax at SK Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah is 74dBA and Kompleks Kediaman Kakitangan Awam Jalan Duta is 73.25dBA. The results is not exceeding the limits which is 75dBA for Noise Sensitive Area and 80dBA for Urban Residential Area as stated in the acceptable limits in the Guidelines for Environment Noise Limits and Control, 2019. The data collected from the distributed questionnaire had been analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 26. This second objective of the study is to measure the perception, acceptance and satisfaction level of the surrounding society of railway system which is at SK Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah and Kompleks Kediaman Kakitangan Awam (KKKA) Jalan Duta. From the analysis results of 101 nos. respondent answering the questionnaires, it was found that the Noise measurements taken at the selected sites are important to identify the spectrum of the railway noise. Field noise measurement was carried out at two selected locations, namely SK Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah, Jalan Sultan Salahuddin, Kuala Lumpur on 8th October 2020 and 9th October 2020, and (KKKA) Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur on 12th October 2020 and 13th October 2020. The measurements were conducted on weekdays from 8.00 a.m to 5.00 p.m. Two sets of noise measurements at distances of 0 m and 20 m were conducted for each location on different days with the selection of a total of 40 nos. noise sample data for further analysis. The sound level meter was mounted on a tripod at approximately 1.2 m to 1.5 m from the ground to the receiver field and at least 3.5 m from the railway boundary and the reflected surface according to the Guidelines for Environment Noise Limits and Control 2019. All noise control tests were carried out at optimal weather conditions at the sites based on relative humidity, temperature and wind speed. Questionnaires Survey RESULT AND DISCUSSION 10


CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION As a conclusion, the data collected from field measurement were compared with the Guidelines for Environment Noise imits and Control 20 9 by the DOE Malaysia. The average field measurement data for SK Sultan Hishamuddin Alam Shah was 4 dBA and for KKKA Jalan Duta was 3.25 dBA. The comparison was made based on the land use category and it was found that the Amax emitted by the train at the study site was still acceptable and within the limits set in the guideline of 5 dBA for noise sensitive areas, low density and suburban residential areas and 80 dBA for urban residential areas. Furthermore, recommendations related to this study are important to reduce the impact of train noise on the surrounding community. It may be applicable to the authority of the train operators in ensuring that the train noise will be reduced to an acceptable level during operation. In addition, installation of noise reducing structures either natural barrier or man-made barrier may reduce the train noise emitted from the sources to the receiver. The installation of noise barrier is also the main priority in the development of new areas. Moreover, the construction of new railway tracks must take into consideration the alignment of the track and avoid the populated area. Continuous inspection and monitoring of noise emission from the train should be performed by the railway operators especially at highly populated area. Further research can be carried out more precisely by measuring the railway noise during day and night, extending the study to locations with noise barriers and distributing questionnaire to larger population to evaluate their satisfaction on the disturbances at their areas. SABAR DALAM KEHIDUPAN Sabar iaitu meneguhkan diri dalam menjalankan ketaatan kepada Allah, menahan dari perbuatan maksiat kepadaNya, serta menjaganya dari perasaan dan sikap marah dalam menghadapi takdir Allah subhanahu wata’ala. Islam sangat menggalakan umatnya untuk sentiasa memiliki sifat sabar, kerana sabar merupakan salah satu sifat mahmudah (terpuji). Kita sebagai seorang manusia, kehidupan kita akan sentiasa diwarnai dengan ujian kadangkala ia datang dalam bentuk kesenangan mahupun kesusahan. Oleh itu, setiap perkara atau tindakan yang dilakukan oleh manusia menuntut rasa penuh sabar kerana itu mengukur sejauh mana ketakwaan dan keredhaan kita kepada Allah subhanahu wata’ala. Begitu juga hendaknya kita sebagai seorang yang beriman di dalam menempuh kehidupan ini. Kesabaran yang didukung keredhaan akan membekalkan seorang mukmin dengan kecekalan jiwa serta ketajaman minda untuk bangkit menghadapi cabaran dan ujian yang telah diberikan, supaya dapat merasakan dan mengambil hikmah serta menjadi seorang yang lebih matang dan juga lebih beriman. Allah subhanahu wata’ala telah berfirman dalam surah al-Baqarah ayat 155-156: Maksudnya: ”Dan Kami akan menguji kamu dengan sedikit ketakutan, kelaparan, kekurangan harta, jiwa dan buah-buahan. Dan sampaikanlah khabar gembira kepada orang yang bersabar {155}, (Iaitu) orangorang yang apabila ditimpa musibah, mereka berkata: ”Sesungguhnya kami milik Allah dan kepadaNya lah kami kembali”{156} Sabar bukanlah perkara yang mudah untuk diterapkan dalam kehidupan setiap hari. Kerana sabar adalah mengenai bagaimana kita menahan atau bertahan, yakni menahan diri dari rasa gelisah, cemas, amarah, menahan lidah dari keluh kesah dan menahan anggota tubuh dari kekacauan yang mungkin terjadi dari berbagai sebab, baik yang disebabkan oleh diri sendiri mahupun orang lain. Dengan memiliki sifat sabar, masalah yang kita hadapi akan menjadi terasa lebih ringan, dengan sabar masalah yang kita hadapi boleh diselesaikan dengan lebih efektif, dengan sabar masalah yang kita hadapi dapat diselesaikan tanpa meninggalkan rasa sakit hati atau dendam dalam diri dan juga terhadap orang lain, dengan sabar juga kita akan senantiasa menjalani kehidupan dengan lebih tenang dan tenteram tanpa merasa gelisah dan bermuram hati. Kerana sabar merupakan senjata utama yang paling penting dalam hidup setiap manusia dan orang yang bersabar dalam menghadapi setiap ujian merupakan golongan hambaNya yang beruntung. Ketahuilah bahawa setiap ujian yang menimpa manusia mempunyai beberapa pengajaran yang berbeza.
