13 I had a wonderful time exploring Taiping and Gopeng in Perak with my cousins. I took a train on
14 Saturday morning of 19 June and was met by my uncle and aunt. My cousins were waiting at home
15 finalising plans for a fun-filled week.

The following day was Sunday so my uncle drove all of us to Taiping. We visited the Perak
NOTES Museum which is the oldest museum in Malaysia. We also made a stop at the beautiful Taiping
Lake Gardens which was built in 1880 on a site of an abandoned tin mine.
On Monday, we went to Kinta Nature Park in Gopeng. A tour guide took us around the wildlife
reserve. There are over 100 species of birds and scores of other animals too.
After that, we visited the Gopeng Museum. It is located in an antique shophouse. There were
various old-fashioned household items and vintage furniture exhibited.
The next two days were spent in the company of my cousins. We went out for meals to sample
the delicious local food.
On Thursday, I took a bus back to Kuala Lumpur.

Another thing about skating on the ice is that my normal walking stride on the ice was not
24. ______________________________________ helpful at all. It caused my legs to go in opposite directions and into near splits. My mother
[8 marks] reminded me to use the marching method. So, I lifted my knees alternately and allowed them
to come down for flat foot placement, done repeatedly in cadence. I looked silly but soon
the ice melted beneath the blades and reduce friction to near zero. Soon I began to glide.
The sensation was wonderful. It seemed I was a natural. I would think so, with three in my
family skating quite respectably. My father was the only one who didn’t skate. He usually sat
on the sidelines, cheering us on.
Soon, I was moving at a good pace! I used that speed to move into a glide by keeping my
feet parallel as if they were railroad tracks headed off into the distance. Bending my knew, I
lowered my centre of gravity and gave myself greater balance. I loved the feeling.
This account wouldn’t be complete without knowing that I did fall really often and found
myself sitting on the cold ice. However, don’t we all fall at some point? Getting up is just part
of life!
