Administrative Operations

New Uniform Announcement
The Assistant Secretary for Health and Surgeon General has selected
the Coast Guard Work Uniform (CGWU) Type IV as the next
Commissioned Corps working uniform. The mandatory wear date for
the new uniform is October 1, 2026, except for officers assigned to
the USCG who have a mandatory wear date of October 1, 2025. All officers may begin
to transition to the new uniform starting in September 2023.

During the transition period leading up to October 1, 2026, officers may purchase USCG-
embroidered Operational Dress Uniform (ODU) blouses along with a newly created USPHS
ODU patch. The patch, (which will be available in September 2023 through the Navy
Exchange website and local Southeast and Bethesda locations) will need to be sewn
over the USCG-embroidered emblem.
Ensure you are familiar with uniform policies and procedures. Important reading
includes:

• (CCI) 421.01, “Uniforms for Male Officers,”
• CCI 421.02, “Uniforms for Female Officers,”
• Commissioned Corps Instruction (CCI) 412.01, “Uniforms and Appearance,”

** CDR Stoll and LT Jones-Shaw will be providing an ALL Hands “In-service” on Uniforms during the second
quarter. Please watch for the calendar invite and/or BLUF announcement.

Here are a number of exciting benefits to the new Type III uniform you can expect:
• Rank tab – allows for easy replacement of rank upon
promotion/advancement without requiring uniform replacement or tailoring;
• You have an additional pocket;
• You have Self-blousing trousers;
• Organizational patches for quick service identification.
• The uniforms are Non-gender specific

Equipment:
We have had a lot of new officers come on board during the holiday season so I will put
this in the front once again. If you need monitors for telework operations, laptops,
headsets, etc, please complete the OASH At-Home Equipment Survey.
You are eligible to receive an OASH-issued external HP monitor for official use at your
alternative worksite location (e.g., approved home telework location). The short survey
will collect information for the financial services branch to ship a monitor to your
alternative worksite if you would like one. You can access the survey at the following link:
OASH External HP Monitor Request Survey. As a note, you will need to be logged in to
www.office.com using your HHS credentials.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the OASH Return to the Workplace Email
Resource Mailbox.

COVID Data Tracker

XBB.1.5 A new Covid sub-variant is causing some
concern in the US, where it is spreading rapidly.
Monitoring Variants: CDC uses viral genomic
surveillance to quickly identify and track COVID-19
variants, and acts upon these findings to best protect
the public’s health. Some variants spread more easily and quickly than
others, which may lead to more cases of COVID-19.
