Merbau On 22nd August 2019 Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir
Tree Mohamad said the merbau could become a symbol of
national pride.

Merbau is one of the tallest tree, It can grow up to
(around 164 feet) and also can reach 150 centimeters

(around 59 inches) in width.

One of the most special features of this tree
that it’s sparsely branched.

Benefits of Merbau Tree (Ironwood)

• Bark and leaves of merbau trees are one of the
traditional medicine used for the treatment of
diarrhea and dysentery

• A Merbau tree also helps to instil a sense of pride
in the flora and fauna of this country.

• The pharmaceutical industry also showing their
interest in merbau for its skin whitening and anti-
acne agents.

• Malaysian Greening Program through the 100 Million Tree
Planting Campaign nationwide was informed by the YAB Prime
Minister while chairing the 77th National Land Council (MTN)
Meeting on 8 September 2020.

• The implementation was simultaneously done throughout
country on January 5, 2021.

• The program will be implemented for a period of 5 years
starting from 2021 to 2025 and targets the planting of 100
million trees.
