Elementary

Sadie F.

Me Myself And I

My name is Sadie. I am 11 years old and in the 5th grade. I have three brothers and one
sister. Awesomely, every summer my family and I go to Colorado. We spend a week camping
with our cousins, which is really fun. When we come back home, I always want to see how my
pets are doing. I love playing the piano, taking care of my pets, and doing gymnastics. During
the summers, I enjoy going to horse camp where I learn to ride and saddle horses. My favorite
paper that I wrote this year would probably be the essay about my dog, Molly.

My Dog Molly

Eagerly to get a puppy, my family and I went on a road trip in July last year to go pick out
a puppy. With much debate, we picked out the only black and white puppy and decided to call
her Molly. When Molly was only six weeks old, we adopted her. Molly, who is half lab and half
German Shepherd, loves going on walks and playing fetch and tug- a-war. My family and I never
regret going on that road trip.

Molly is absolutely sooo adorable. She has beautiful, soft, black fur, and her cute and
fluffy ears flop about when she dashes around. On her tail, she has a white tip with a bent end
because she was bit as a puppy. Wonderfully, Molly is blessed with all white paws. Molly, who
is half black lab and half German shepherd, is very playful. Since I absolutely love my Molly, we
make a great pair.

Molly enjoys playing tug-a-war with the family, and she likes playing fetch. She loves
going on walks, and she especially loves chasing our cat. When we let her out of the backyard,
she always bolts for the woods. Finally, she comes back for a relaxing tummy rub, which she
also loves. On occasion, we take Molly in the car on family trips because she delights in being a
part of the family. Molly enjoys playing with me and my family.

When I play with my pet Molly, we usually play fetch with her favorite toy, Mr.
Squeakers. Excitedly, Molly dashes for the ball, which she sometimes doesn’t bring back. On
occasion when she does bring back the ball, she kind of turns the game of fetch into a game of
keep-a-way. I love to play with my dog Molly.

All of these lovable things about Molly are true. She is adorable in how she plays tug-a-
war and keep-a-way. Her favorite toy, Mr. Squeakers, keeps her entertained. She is a playful
puppy! Every single thing I have shared with you about Molly shows she is a fun, active puppy,
and I love her.

Emily L.

My name is Emily; I am 12 years old and in 7th grade, and I happily live in South Louisiana.
I have a family of eight. Marvelously, I have three brothers and two sisters living with me on
earth, and one sister, Rachal, in heaven because she passed away as a baby. I am the third child.
When I have spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, painting, drawing, swimming,
playing with my cat Miley, and going on trips with my family. Some of my favorite foods are
barbeque, crawfish, vanilla ice cream, which is especially scrumptious with warm chocolate cake,
and Mexican food. Someday I would like to travel to Pennsylvania and New York to meet two
people I talked to on Edmodo. When I go to college, I'm not quite sure what I want to do yet, but
I will definitely go into the medical field. This summer will be spent visiting family and spending
time with my friends, especially my best friend, Alli. My favorite essay was about My Pet because
I really enjoyed writing about my beloved cat.

An Amazing Animal

The cat, Miley, which is a short-haired cat, has happily lived with me for two years since
she was a six-week-old kitten. After searching for two weeks, I received Miley from a kind
woman in Louisiana. Mewing softly, Miley looked like the cutest kitten ever! Emergently
running, she likes to chase bugs and explore, because she is active. Since, Miley is active, she
enjoys to play with a feather, or chase a laser.

My cat, Miley looks adorable. The cat possesses a bitty black body, because Miley's mom
and dad have small bodies. Beautifully, her fluffy short, black fur covers her figure. Since her
parents bear white on them, Miley has a white spot on her belly. Walking skillfully on a thin
board, her long black tail carefully helps her keep balance. Outside, as she peeks around in the
dark, her large eyes, which are very bright and yellow, help her see. Miley is one crazy cute cat!

Enjoying her day, Miley likes to do serval things to play. Instead of chasing mice, she
absolutely adores to quickly chase bugs, because there are no mice to chase. Lazily, she enjoys
long naps. Since she is an extremely active cat, she often hunts for snakes. Miley scratches and
climbs her blue cat tree, which makes a "thump" sound as she climbs, when she wants to
sharpen her claws. The cat, which is very adventurous, really enjoys to explore the ten acres she
lives on. Miley does a bunch of things she enjoys.

There are serval ways I play with Miley. Dragging a feather on the ground, I invite, Miley to
come play. Since she enjoys chasing bugs so much, I shine a laser, which looks like a bug, on the
wall so Miley can try to pounce it. Gently, I wrestle, Miley with my hand because she is
extremely playful. After a long day when Miley's fur is tangled, I brush her fur with a cat brush.
The cat willingly lets me rub her belly and head. I enjoy playing with Miley.

In conclusion, Miley appears to be a quirky, cute, courageous cat. Playing with me is
Miley's favorite thing to do. She epically loves chasing lasers. Most importantly, Miley is a
genial, active cat. This shows that she is an amazing pet.

Julia R.

My name is Julia. I am 10 years old. I enjoy riding horses. Fiddler, who is my aunt’s
horse, is enjoyable to ride. I also write stories.

Sandy, My Horse

Cheerfully, I love my beautiful buckskin horse! I have had the tan horse since she was a
baby because she was born on my farm. Amazing Sandy, who looks soft and graceful, loves
oats and sugar. Since she was young, she happily adores playing in the pasture. She loves me.

Sandy, who is a horse, looks beautifully brown because she has a sleek, brown body and
owns shiny, black hooves. She has a cream-colored blaze on her nose as well as cream-colored
socks on her legs. She is glossy and smooth. Sandy is beautifully sleek, shiny, and brown.

Sandy, who is brown, likes many things. She enjoys oats with sugar sprinkled in. She
likes being softly groomed. When I come to her stable with her saddle, she nickers happily. She
likes prancing gaily around the barnyard because then she gets to graze afterwards. Sandy likes
many things.

Riding Sandy is what I love to do. Since she was little, she loves to lope. She likes the
lunge line, which is a long rope that you hold the end and shout commands. When she is
happy, she nickers. Swiftly, she snorts and tosses her head because I give her tasty carrots.
Sandy is cute.

Sandy looks tan. She likes oats and sugar. I love to play with Sandy. Sandy is a great
horse. She is very sweet.

Edris S.

My name is Edris. I am 10 years old and in 5th grade. I live with mom, dad and two
brothers in the Golden State. My oldest brother and I enjoy building things. My hobbies are
playing soccer and basketball and fixing damaged cars. My favorite foods are: my mom's
tender chicken, macaroni, and traditional Tunisian couscous. Every summer, I delight in visiting
my grandparents in Tunisia. When I grow up, I would like to become a car dealer. My favorite
composition that I wrote this year was writing from pictures about Garfield and Odie because I
find their comics humorous.

Angry Garfield

Garfield and Odie are good friends, but because Odie does some naughty things it
causes trouble. In the morning Garfield, who was gradually guzzling his coffee, didn't know Odie
was next to him. Before that, they were sleeping. They came to the kitchen table to eat. Odie
thought of saying hi so Garfield will let him drink.

Although Odie barked suddenly, the scalding coffee splashed in Garfield's face. Garfield
who was in pain, said ouch and needed ice. Odie giggled at the funny thing that happened. Odie
did not bark on purpose.

Garfield became angry at Odie because sizzling coffee gushed in his face. He frowned
and screamed, "Don't do that". Odie, who apologized, was deeply sad that he hurt Garfield's
feelings. Eventually, he helped him clean the mess. Garfield forgave him, and they became good
friends forever. Now, Garfield is not angry at Odie anymore.

Peter T.

I am Peter, and I really love to make small and large paragraphs. I like when I have a good
fun paragraph. I love to write tons of sentences. Another thing I like is interesting and neat facts.
Some more things I learned is to make different sentences in class. In school I like when I get to
make a clincher sentence. My favorite part of all is finishing a good paragraph.

The Goose and the Greedy Countryman

One day a countryman greedily said he wanted to have money. Then he found a goose
that laid golden eggs. The goose laid one golden egg a day. The man visited the goose’s nest
every morning. After his daily visit, he would take the eggs to the market. He slowly began to get
rich. A wicked baron wanted the goose, only for her eggs! When his spies discovered her in the
marketplace, all he could think of were her eggs.

When the greedy, impatient countryman was counting his money, an idea can to him. He
was not getting rich fast enough, although he wanted more eggs to bring to the market. Then he
cut open the goose. He did not get any eggs at all and his pet was dead.

But he did not find any golden eggs, and he was mad. His precious goose was now
dead, because he cut it open. Although he killed the goose, he never got any eggs. If he never
killed the goose, he would not have become poor. Finally, he became more patient and learned
to not be greedy.

Hayden W.

My name is Hayden Christian. My birthday is July 15, 2006. I am the oldest of six
children. I enjoy playing piano, mandolin, banjo, and guitar. I also like going to our mountain
cabin where I go play in the woods, garden, and sometimes play a little Xbox. When we are at
our house in Charlotte, I play with my friends around the neighborhood. I also play soccer, and I
used to play football and baseball.

Henrietta is a golden-brown Buff Orpington chicken that I love very much. She is two

and a half years old, which is about one quarter of her life. At Renfrow’s we got her in the

spring of 2016. She looks very fluffy, and she feels the same as she looks. When Henrietta
happily sprints around the yard, she is actually happily looking for insects to eat. It is very

important to feed her because if I don’t, she will starve.
I adore my chicken so much. She means a lot to me because she is my chicken. When I

hold her she feels so fluffy. On her head she has a sharp, yellow beak, a red gobble, and thin,

scaly claws. Lastly, she has long tail feathers.
Henrietta is an amazing chicken to have as a pet. Henrietta loves to eat cracked corn and

mealworms. She likes to run around in the yard and chase the other chickens. In our yard she
looks for insects to eat. Sometimes our chickens even eat snakes.

Henrietta's food is in pipes which we fill up at the top. Then the food trickles down to
where she can reach it. We also give her the leftovers of our food which she loves. In their tin

We give them our food scraps. When we give them food and because they adore it so much,

they usually push each other to get to it first. We give them food scraps about twice a day.
Henrietta is a very fluffy chicken, and I love her. She loves to run around in the yard and

look for bugs to eat. She loves the food scraps that we give her. It is important that I feed her
because if I don’t, she won’t be a happy chicken.

Gabriella A.

Gabriella is my name, and I am from colorful Colorado. I have three wonderful sisters,
and I am the third girl in my family. Although I’m American, my dad, who is from South Africa,
has lived in the US for 20 years. When I grow up, I would like to be an extraordinary army
general or a FBI agent. Biking up the Canyon, my family and I enjoy visiting our neighbors.
Scrumptious curry or fantastic fish are some of my favorite foods. Gracefully dancing or quietly
reading are some of my favorite things to do. My favorite composition that I wrote this year is
Pecos Bill because he was a rooting tooting cowboy in the old wild west.

The First Rodeo

Pecos Bill was the most insane cowboy because he could ride anything he set his mind
to. There was a gargantuan tornado spinning west of Kansas Way. Pecos Bill decided to ride this
tornado when the sky was black and dark green. Determined, Pecos Bill shoved the tornado
with such force that he just hopped on the wild storm’s back.

The terrifying tornado refused to have Pecos Bill ride on his back. The whipping, whirling
wind side-winded and destroyed everything in its path. It completely flattened out forests. In a
matter of seconds, the tornado dumped all its water on the dry earth, creating the Grand Canyon.
Because Pecos Bill rode so calmly it was like riding a rocking-horse.

Raining and pouring, the tornado completely emptied itself out. With nothing to sit on,
Pecos Bill collapsed to the earth. As Pecos Bill hit the dirt, it crumbled to sea level. Because the
ground sank below sea level, it is now called Death Valley. Crazy enough, that’s how the first
rodeo got started.

Constance C.

My name is Constance Crossley. I am 16 years old. My birthday is on May 26. I am in 9th
grade. I have 5 siblings. One of them is my twin sister. After I graduate I wish to be a Disney
Actress. I like watching movies and looking up actresses on my iPad.

This year’s favorite writing assignment is writing about my iPad because I like using it.

The Useful iPad

The useful iPad is a very amazing invention. The iPad was made by “APPLE” on April 10,
2010. Because I like my iPad, I can quickly text family and friends when I want, watch Netflix, and
buying awesome computer Games.

I swiftly text my family and my friends. I cannot text them while I travel. I like to FaceTime
some of my family that is far away. I text my friends whenever I want, even when I am supposed to
do my annoying homework. I am not allowed to text people in my bedroom. When I am bored I love
talking to my friends. I text someone when I think of something to say. That is why I like texting my
friends and family.

I love watching movies and TV shows on Netflix. I usually watch things on Netflix after I do
school work. I sometimes watch Netflix while I am eating lunch. I think all the movies and TV shows
are great, but I think A Series of Unfortunate Events is my favorite. When I want to take the time, I
sometimes sneak on Netflix to see if there are more episodes on some of the TV shows I like
watching. I think watching Netflix is awesome.

I love buying games to play. I select the game I want from the App Store. When I want to, I
sometimes buy the games suddenly with money. Most of the time I get the entertaining games that
are free. Before I buy a game, it shows me how to play the game so I can decide if I want to buy it or
not. My favorite game is the “My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.” I love buying games at the App
Store.

I like iPads because I can have conversations when my friends are not around. Since I can watch
long Netflix movies, I can do chores while I watch a long movie. I buy computer games without cash.
The most important thing is happily texting your friends and family. It is important because I can
discuss with my nice friends without them around.

Noah H.

My name is Noah. I am the second oldest out of nine. I live in Nemo, Texas. My
favorite subject in school is reading because reading makes me feel serene. My favorite thing
to do is play with Legos with my brothers, Owen, Isaac, and Levi. I don’t know what I want to
do when I get older, but I like building things. My favorite paper I wrote was A Fantastic
Drawing Pad because I invented the drawing pad.

The Fantastic Drawing Pad

A useful invention is a drawing pad, which will be invented in 2031. In a work space, I
will create the drawing pad. Wonderfully, it will come to you in bed. Luckily, you can never use
up paper. Finally, it can change paper.

Surprisingly, a drawing pad can come to you in bed. In the morning, a drawing pad is
useful because I am too lazy to move. I would draw any time in the day. I would make comics
and other exciting pictures. I would do it in my room by myself, which is peaceful. Restfully, I
would feel cozy and quiet. I would also look back at my drawings. A fantastic thing about a
drawing pad is that it comes to you when you want it to!

Amazingly, a drawing pad never runs out of paper. Because your drawing pad never
runs out, you don’t have to purchase paper. You could save money. Thankfully, people don’t
have to cut down as many trees. It could save time. Also, it could save room. You just need
room for one paper-sized pad which is helpful in a small space. A drawing pad also never runs
out of paper.

Wonderfully, the drawing pad also can change the color of paper, which could be any
color. It can be changed by a button on the side. You can effortlessly change a different
background because you just push a button. In a train, it would be convenient to change the
color. The colors would change to red, blue, orange, green, etc. Because it can change color,
the drawing pad is a useful invention.

In the morning, a drawing pad can save your legs. Helpfully, it can save money. You can
change color which is easy. The most important thing is that it comes to you in bed because it
is the best technology.

Aleta L.

I'm Aleta Mae L. I live with two sisters, one cat, and my mom and dad. My hobbies are:
music, video making, and gymnastics. I am currently trying to skip a grade, and I love pizza and
burgers. When I grow up, I want to have a music career.

George Washington Carver Helped Our Country

George Washington Carver, who was a great help to our country, was born in 1864 on a
farm in Missouri, which was one of the reasons why his interests were plants, animals, and the
Bible. He was a college professor, and he discovered crop rotation and the uses of peanuts
which made them profitable. We are all very grateful for him.

George Washington Carver was a professor who researched ways to improve crop
production, making them healthier and having more to eat. Carver wrote on pamphlets about
applied agriculture. Wisely, he spread the word to farmers prior to producing more crops.
Additionally, he studied the ways to conserve soil, since you need soil to produce crops.
Without Carver, we might've never learned the ways to produce more crops, and many people
could've starved.

Impressively, George Washington Carver also assisted the U.S.A. with crop rotation. If
you plant the same crop in the same field over and over again, the nutrients in the soil will
gradually disappear, meaning that the crops grown from that soil will also not hold the nutrition
that it needs. He decided to change the crop that was growing in the field every year, which
means the soil will stay enriched and farmers will be more successful. All the products produced
will be diversified. Crop rotation was a very important part of civilization, and so was Carver.

Inconveniently, boll weevils always devoured the farmer's cotton, since cotton was a
popular fabric at the time. Conveniently, the boll weevil didn't eat peanuts, but because people
also didn't need peanuts, the farmers still wouldn't have made money. Carver discovered
different ways to use peanuts such as: peanut butter, car fuels, etc. By doing this, he made
peanuts profitable. Carver helped the farmers a lot by using peanuts instead of cotton which
was devoured by boll weevils.

George Washington Carver was an experienced professor who taught others. He figured
out crop rotation, which prevents the nutrients from the soil wearing out, ways to use peanuts,
which made farmers have a reason to grow them, and ways to improve crop income.

Claire C.

My name is Claire C. I am 13 years old, and I am the oldest child. I have a dad and mom
and three siblings, Mia (11), Christian (6), and Lucy (2). The animals we have are one dog and
one cat, 13 chickens, five cows, one horse, three grown up rabbits and four babies, and three
goats. My dad loves animals. I love to ride four-wheelers, play the piano and guitar, ride horses,

especially enjoyed writing the super essay on my state because I can tell people how amazing
Louisiana is.

Louisiana

Louisiana is an amazing place to visit. It briskly became a state on April 30, 1812.
Louisiana’s state flower, which is the magnolia flower, is beautiful. In Louisiana, it’s geography
is fascinating. Frequently, the weather is usually hot since we live by the Gulf of Mexico.
Because Louisiana has historical and adventurous visits, there are many places to visit in
Louisiana.

Most of Louisiana's seasons are warm or hot while Alaska is freezing cold the whole
year. There are four lovely seasons. There is different, good, smilingly saucy scenery throughout
Louisiana. In Louisiana, there are forests and swamps. Since we live by the Gulf of Mexico, there
are rivers and lakes. The Gulf of Mexico comes in contact with Louisiana. Louisiana experiences
high temperatures. Continually, the four seasons in a year are summer, which is REALLY hot in
Louisiana, fall, winter and spring.

Louisiana has five different land regions. Thankfully, there is only one swampy area, which is
located in the south of Louisiana. While Mississippi's state tree is the magnolia tree, Louisiana's
state tree is the bald cypress, which is in the swampy swift swamps. Louisiana is formed with
sediment. It is also formed by the disgusting Mississippi River. Louisiana is the 31st largest state
since Alaska is the largest. Bordering Texas, Arkansas and Mississippi, Louisiana touches those
states. In the US, every beautifully state has land regions.

In Louisiana, there are several types of waterways. The Mississippi River is the largest
river in Louisiana. There are six gigantic rivers that drain into the Mississippi River since the
Mississippi River runs through the US. Running through the US, the Mississippi River is 2,340
miles long. Where the Atlantic Ocean touches North America, South America, Europe, Africa
and Antarctica, the Gulf of Mexico, which also touches Mexico, touches Louisiana. The Gulf of
Mexico is a marshal and basin of the Atlantic Ocean. Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas and

Louisiana also touch the Gulf of Mexico. These are huge states. Incredibly, there are several
types of waterways throughout the Louisiana.

The weather in warm Louisiana is mostly hot. It rains a dozen times in summer, which is
one of the four seasons in a year. Usually, there are mild winters while Colorado is snowing all

year. The weather is subtropical. In summer, it gets 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Falling on the

ground, the snow is rare in laughingly lovely Louisiana. Since the other states are not by water,
the weather isn't always hot like Louisiana.

Casually, most of Louisiana is made of forests and swamps. Since there are forests and
swamps, which not all states have, there are rivers and lakes. Louisiana intensively has warm

and cold temperatures. Louisiana is mostly hot while Montana is mostly freezing. Throughout

the year, there are four beautiful different seasons – summer, fall, winter, and spring. You can't
be bored with all the different things you can do. Since Louisiana has low grounds, there are

swamps that get created.
In the state, Louisiana has several interesting attractions. Visiting Louisiana, people

amazingly appear to visit anytime because there is magnificent scenery. Randomly, these

attractions are throughout the state. You can go camping, which you can either tent camp or
sleep in a cabin, in Toledo Bend. While looking at the magnificent view, Kisatchie can be done

by hiking. You can visit the past in The World War Two museum. There are attractions in every
state.

Exciting as a national reservoir, Toledo Bend supplies water for people to go boating. On
the Texas and Louisiana border, Toledo Bend is located. Toledo Bend River is 65 miles long

while the Mississippi River is 2,320 miles long. Toledo Bend is the largest manmade body of

water. Because Toledo Bend has lots activities, happily it attracts tourists. Enjoyingly, there is
boating, fishing, camping, hunting and sightseeing, which you look at things. Toledo bend has

amazing water to go boating on.
Kisatchie is the only national forest in Louisiana. Kisatchie is named after the Kachai

Indians, who pridefully called themselves Kisatchie. Kisatchie is 944 square miles. In the

forested hills, beautiful Kisatchie stands. Kisatchie is a famous national forest in Louisiana
because it is the only national forest in Louisiana. Enjoyingly, there is camping, hiking,

horseback riding, hunting, fun fishing, etc. While California has dozens of forests, Louisiana has
only a few forest.

The World War Two museum, which is abbreviated WWII, is located in New Orleans,

Louisiana. The WWII museum is also known as the D-day museum because USA’s victory day is
called D-Day. Because the museum is in the USA, the museum is focused on USA’s intelligent

victory with its allies. There are four ginormous buildings at the museum. In the museum, there
are airplanes, pictures, little clips, and more. Luckily, there is also a 4D movie that is amazing!!!

New Orleans has amazing museums.

People can discover dozens of attractions in Louisiana. Toledo Bend is fun to camp, hike,
etc. Enjoyingly, Kisatchie is a great place to hike. In the WWII museum, which is made of 4

buildings, you can learn about D-Day. Louisiana provides tons of excitement when you truly are
having fun. Louisiana is a great place to visit. Since the USA is full of attractions, Louisiana

contains its share of exciting attractions too.

In Louisiana, the geography and weather, which is normally scorching, is amazing.
Laughingly, we have fun since the weather is perfect for swimming. There are entertaining

attractions. Because you can have fun, I think the most important thing in the state is the
activities and attractions.

Hannah E.

Hello! My name is Hannah, and I am 13 years old. I am doing 7th and 8th grades this
year to go to high school this coming school year. I have one older brother. In my free time, I
like to play my violin, which I have been doing for five years, and my piano. Reading is also one
of my favorite hobbies. If I could go anywhere in the world, I would want to go to Australia
because I have never gone and would love to see kangaroos and koala bears. Even though I
have been to Washington DC before, I would want to go again because it is so much fun! One of
my favorite types of food to eat is Mexican food. As I look to a future career, it would either be
some kind of doctor, like a cardiologist, or maybe a teacher. This summer I hope to be able to
go to a water park or go swimming. My favorite composition that I wrote this year is The Best
Winter Ever because I love winter and Christmas.

The Best Winter Ever

One bright winter morning, Laura sleepily climbed out of her warm bed and walked
down the stairs. Blackie, who was her darling big puppy, raced after her and barked joyful
barks of delight. The sun sparkled inside the house that was heated by their big fireplace.
Today was Christmas, and Laura was very excited! The young girl greeted her mother with a
cheerful good morning and poured herself a steaming, tall glass of hot chocolate. Slowly
sipping her drink, she spotted her new orange kitten that was licking her paws neatly on the
couch next to the fireplace. Laura had named her new kitten, Tiger. Then Laura's eyes moved
to the window and she gasped, "Oh yes! Yes!" Laura exclaimed excitedly, "Look Mom there is
snow covering the ground and the trees outside! I am so happy! I wanted it to snow so badly
this winter and here it is! May I go and play outside in it now?" Mom told her to wait until after
she had eaten her breakfast of pancakes, eggs, fruit, and potatoes. Laura then spied the large
stack of presents under the tree; they were wrapped in beautiful wrapping paper and tied with
huge bows. Laura couldn't wait to open her presents, and she couldn't wait to eat breakfast so
she could go outside and play. After a quick, delicious breakfast, Laura laughed happily because
it was Christmas as she ran upstairs to brush her teeth. The bright winter morning sun shinned
through Laura's open window.

The sun shining on the soft, fluffy snow made it sparkle like lots of diamonds, and the
snow covering the tall, majestic trees made it look like Christmas trees. After Laura hurriedly
brushed her teeth and got dressed, she ran outside of her house to play with her friends in the
nearby woods. Laura and her best friend, Heather Gibson, built a petite, cute snowman and
used a carrot from Sprinkles, which was Laura's bunny, for the nose. When they were finished,
they both felt a surge of accomplishment as they high-fived each other with both hands. Next
Laura and the rest of her friends had a great time sledding down the large slope that was
behind Heather's house. Laughing and red-faced, Laura joined the game of a snowball fight and

eagerly tried to build a sturdy fort for herself. Soon that grew old, and Laura and Heather made
snow angles by laying down on the puffy snow and moving their arms and legs back and forth.

When they stood up, a beautiful snow angel was to be seen, and it sparkled in the shining sun.
After Laura had finished playing, she cheerfully scrambled back inside the house to

enjoy a large mug of hot chocolate while sitting on the couch by the fire. Eagerly drinking her

hot chocolate, Laura reached over and put a peppermint stick inside of her mug. Letting the
warm, soothing liquid run through her, she felt wonderfully happy and content. Laura’s family

joined her on the couch while Tiger, Laura’s new little kitten, climbed up onto the couch and
snuggled next to Laura. Refreshed by her drink, Laura felt cozy and comfortable. When Mom

got up to pop some popcorn, Dad requested they watch a movie. While Mom and Dad busied

themselves around the house, Laura and her little sister Lily, who was four years younger than
her, searched through their Christmas movies. In less than fifteen minutes, the entire family sat

again on the couch eating popcorn, fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies, and peppermint bark as
It’s a Wonderful Life played loudly on their TV. After the wonderful movie, the family joyfully

opened their presents. Lily exclaimed, “This is the best Christmas ever! Do you know why?

Because Mom, Dad and Laura are the best Christmas presents of all!” Laura had to agree
cheerfully that this was the best Christmas ever!

Owen H.

My name is Owen Graham H. I have an enormous family of three brothers, five sisters,
and my mom and dad. I like to study the ocean and play basketball. My favorite food is
seafood. When I grow up, I want to be an oceanographer. I especially enjoyed writing the state
super essay because it was long and about our state, plus, we got to say it to the whole class.

Texas

Texas is absolutely a great state to visit. During the visit, people learn about the state’s
history. When Texas became an independent state on December 29, 1845, people from all over
Texas celebrated. Texas’s nickname is “The Lone Star State.” Trailing Texas, the geography is
amazing, and the weather is always warm, unless a cold front invades the land, which people
here get used to. Remarkably, there are great places to visit and spectate too.

Texas’s lands are different in different regions. Palo Duro Canyon is a very complex land
region. Running down the land, it enormously trails one hundred twenty miles long. Its depth,
which can expand up to one thousand feet, is eight hundred twenty feet. Amazingly, it’s titanic
width is twenty miles. Since this canyon is similar to the Grand Canyon, it is often called the
Grand Canyon of Texas, although it is smaller. Of all the parts of the Palo Duro Canyon, the best
part is it being in Texas.

There are several types of waterways including oceans, lakes, rivers, and ponds. The
first waterway is Galveston Bay. This bay, which is six hundred square miles, also has an
important part in the Gulf of Mexico. Some rivers are terrifying, but none are as horrifyingly
fierce as this one. This is our second waterway, Devils River. It is positioned in a remote
location. Astoundingly, part of it flows underground. It emerges out of the ground twenty
miles ahead. Supplying a great need, the flowing waters are important either at Galveston Bay
or Devils River. They are both remarkable. Because they are incredible, that means we need to
take care of what we have, the waterways.

In Texas, the weather ranges from violent tornadoes to the dry windy sandstorms.
Texas is enormously covered by Tornado Alley, although some of it is not. Dangerously,
tornadoes will destroy anything in their path, including strong buildings. Because it is averaged
about one hundred thirty-nine tornadoes a year in Texas, it is best to keep track of where you
put your stuff outdoors. Tornadoes are mostly frequent in North Texas and the Pan Handle.
Some hurricanes important to U.S. history have raged in Texas, which have brutally killed many.

Climbing at top speed, hurricanes are one of the most dangerous storms. In 1875, a hurricane
killed four people altogether. The weather in Texas can be peaceful at one minute. Then it can

have you hiding in shelter the next minute.
Texas contains one of the most amazing landscapes and one of the hottest climates in

the United States. There are four seasons, which are all extremely hot. When it is hot, though,

people here in Texas know how to cool off. Majestically, the state’s landscape is uniquely
different in varying regions. Laying deep in the land, a canyon would sit. Gushing rivers and

oceans are also a part of the landscape.
Proudly, Texas has many fun and stunning attractions. People cheerfully visit Texas for

vacations since Texas is filled with many attractions. Roaming Texas while looking for

attractions, people always will be hungry for them. There are different attractions through
different areas. A SeaWorld is located here in Texas in San Antonio. Globe Life Park is home to

our Major League Baseball team, which we root for. When looking for attractions, people
should always visit the Alamo because the Alamo is our history. In Texas, all of our attractions

are exciting.

SeaWorld San Antonio is obviously located in San Antonio, Texas. They have marine
animal shows, which are harsh to the animals. SeaWorld is not perfect, because of how the

animals are treated. Sadly, the marine mammals should be in the ocean, but instead they are
pretty much in prison. Thankfully, SeaWorld agrees to stop taking orcas from the wild and

breeding them. Although there are arguments against the captivity, it is a fun place. Swimming
gracefully, the marine mammals put on spectacular shows. During the time people are there,

they stop to watch dolphins in tanks and get drinks. SeaWorld San Antonio, despite their

downsides, is a great place for a vacation.
Globe Life Park, which is located in Arlington, is a great attraction. Hitting home runs

every year, the Texas Rangers have found a home here. It was constructed in 1994 while the
Texas Rangers were put together as a team. It has held numerous events, including the 1995

MLB All-Star Game. It also has had famous movies shot there, like The Rookie. During the year,

a college baseball team, the University of San Antonio, holds a game on the field. Astonishingly,
there is a spot called the Greene Hill which is where the park owners amazingly allow fans to

run out and catch a home run ball. Because Globe Life Park is getting older, another field called
Globe Life Field is being made. So eventually, Globe Life Park will be demolished.

The Alamo is positioned in San Antonio. The Alamo was a Spanish church and was used

as a fort in 1836’s Battle for the Alamo. Outside of it, smaller buildings were constructed as
part of the church. It was tragically never completed, which makes the church look really old

and beaten up. Excluding the ruined parts of the Alamo, it is rich with history. Although Texas
lost the battle, the Texans remember it by using “Remember the Alamo!” as their battlecry.

Incredibly, it is Texas’s most visited attraction since it is a huge part in Texas history. Gratefully,

the Alamo in San Antonio is preserved perfectly so that we can visit to see what it was like back
in the old days.

There are lots of fun attractions, which people casually enjoy going to. Watching
SeaWorld’s marine mammal shows, people are entertained. Globe Life Park is a fun place to be

since it is an awesome baseball field. At the Alamo, we learn about Texas’s history.

Importantly, we not only have fun, but we learn and expand our knowledge about Texas,

although it is more fun to do activities than to learn about history. The fun attractions are
visited from people from across the world because of how famous they are.

The weather is important in Texas, since it is what Texas is best known for. The
astounding land and water of Texas makes the state look stunning. The entertaining attractions
amuse the people of Texas and tourists continuously. In Texas, people care about the land and
conserve Texas’s history. Teaching tourists Texas history is important to most Texans. Most
importantly, though, Texas is rich with enjoyment because of the people who reside in and
delight in Texas. Proudly, they are the ones that make it fantastic. Since Texas is one of our
biggest states in the USA, it should be respected.

Abigail K.

My name is Abigail. I’m 14 years old, and I just finished 8th grade, and I live in Northern
California. I am the youngest in my family with four older siblings plus a brother-in-law. My favorite
activities are baking, swimming, gymnastics, and biking. Gymnastics is probably my most fun activity
since I love to flip and tumble on my trampoline or on the grass. My favorite food is sushi since my
family is Asian. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my family. When I go to college, I would like to
either be an interior designer or become a realtor. During the summer I will be traveling to Washington
DC and spending time with my family. I highly enjoyed writing and making up a story about an Olympic
gymnast, just because I could use my imagination.

Today was a highly busy day because I was at gym for 5 hours. I started practice at 12:00 PM,
warmed up, and did a significant amount of stretching and conditioning. Since I currently have a
slight injury on my fingers, bars was difficult. I did bar releases including a straddled jeager and
a one-armed pike geinger. I also practiced my dismount which is a double salto backwards
tucked with a double twist. After bars I asked my coach for a break. Thankfully she agreed.
Resting, I munched on some delicious, juicy, berries till there were none left. I gulped flavorful
water too. After the break I made my way to the floor where I had to work on tumbling. In
quick succession I did a roundoff back handspring double layout. Later I did a roundoff one and
a half twist into a roundoff whip double twist. Next up, I went to beam and did my series which
consisted of a back handspring step out, back layout step out, back layout and a dismount I
won't go into since I almost broke my neck. I went to vault and did a yurochanko with a twist.
Now my long, exhausting routines were finished. Even though it was a highly busy day, I’m
excited to go to the Olympics!

I’m here in Tokyo! I cannot believe it! On Monday I got off the bus and stepped foot in the Olympic
village where all the athletes stay including those from different countries. Calmly, I met other athletes.
Despite having severe jet lag, I, my gymnastic teammates, and all of the team USA athletes marched

exhaustedly into the stadium for the Olympic opening ceremony. Elated, I woke up in an awesome
mood and strolled into the shop where we got our Team USA gear like jackets, shirts, pants, you name
it! After that we made our way to the stadium where we were to compete. We warmed up and did all of
our routines for podium training. It wasn’t the best I could do, but it was awesome! Tomorrow is
supposedly the day, and I cannot wait to compete in front of everyone! I cannot believe I’m here in
Tokyo

Today is the all-around competition. Surprisingly I’m not highly stressed. I feel confident and prepared.
Although I’m not stressed, I still am pressured to nail all of my events. Despite the times I feel slightly
worried that I will mess up, I’m calm. All the pressure is on me today. I’m so excited to get out on the
event and conquer it! This is how I deal with pressure. Sitting quietly, I watch my fellow gymnast
warmup and do routines. Somehow that just calms me down. I better go now since it’s time to leave for
the stadium. As soon as I get there, I’m going to warmup and stretch calmly. I will also eat a wonderful
snack! I hope I’ll do my best in this all-around competition.

Journal Entry 4

It is the end of the competition, and I’m so relieved because I didn’t fall on the beam, I nailed floor, stuck
my landing on vault, and I had stunning form on bars. Since I nailed all of my events, I got first place on
all the events. Thankfully I strolled over to the podium and received my gorgeous, shiny gold medal!
Putting my hand to my heart while the US National Anthem played, I stood there joyfully. I’m so glad
that it’s the end of that competition!

Miriam M.

Hi, my name is Miriam, and I am 13 years old. I have six siblings, who are Jonathan (34),
Elizabeth (32), Emily (30), Joseph (18), Dominic (16), and David (11). My parents are Glenn and
Cindy. They are wonderful, loving parents. I have 10 nieces and nephews. I became an aunt four
days after I was born! Two of my nieces are like sisters to me because we live very close to each
other, and I see them almost every day. Their names are Claire (13) and Mia (11). I am very
grateful to all of them because they are all in my life. One of my favorite things to do is play
soccer. I play on a soccer team, and it’s my favorite sport. I also like to play piano and read. I’ve
been playing piano since I was eight or seven but I stopped for a few years; then I got back to it.
Camping and going out to my grandfather's land is also something that I enjoy doing. We live
sort of in the country, and when I was two we move away from the real country. My three older
siblings lived out their whole lives before they went to college. My favorite composition that I
wrote this year was writing about my state, Louisiana. I especially enjoyed writing about
Louisiana because I learned a lot from looking up things about it, and I found it a pretty fun
paper. I hoped you enjoyed learning a little bit about me!

Louisiana

Louisiana is a great state! It became a state April 30, 1812. The state flower is the
magnolia. Louisiana's state nickname is The Pelican State because the state bird of Louisiana is
the brown pelican. The geography here is very interesting, and the weather is always changing.
There are many lovely attractions in Louisiana, which brings a lot of tourists.

Louisiana's land and climate changes throughout the seasons. There are four different
distinct seasons in Louisiana. Throughout this amazing state there is different scenery. Some of
the scenery consists of swamps and forests that lie throughout the state. There are many rivers
and lakes that trickle throughout Louisiana. Down here we experience an extremely temperate
climate. Louisiana is beautiful. Louisiana offers four seasons, which are hard to tell apart
sometimes.

Louisiana has five different land regions. There are many swamps in Louisiana, and they
are located toward the south. Located in the swamps are the bald cypresses, Louisiana's state
tree. The state was formed by many different sediments. Also formed by the Mississippi River,
Louisiana is the thirty-first state to join the U.S., which is pretty cool. This awesome state is
bordered by Arkansas.

There are several types of rivers that form in lucky, lovely Louisiana. One border for
Louisiana is the Gulf of Mexico. Louisiana has coastal marshes and beaches, which are not that
nice. Planted in the Gulf of Mexico are many Barrie Islands. The bayous in Louisiana usually
branch into major rivers. On the east border is the Mississippi River that forms part of the east
side of Louisiana. Louisiana’s waterways are awesome! The Mississippi drains into the Gulf of
Mexico. There are many waterways that form in Louisiana.

Louisiana's weather is usually very humid and wet. In Louisiana it rains a lot during the
super, surprising summers. The summers are usually very humid and muggy, while the winters

are mild. Weather in Louisiana is subtropical. The extreme maximum temperature for summer
reaches 100 F, and during the winters, the average temperature is 66 F. Snow down here in
Louisiana is very rare, which stinks. Out of all the seasons, summer lasts the longest in
Louisiana.

Many forests, swamps, rivers, and lakes are located in Louisiana. The climate changes
usually in Louisiana. Louisiana has four different seasons, and summer is the longest season,
which means you can go swimming a lot. If you get bored in this state, you can always think of
many things to do in this awesome place. Located in this state are many fun things to enjoy
every day.

Louisiana has several different interesting attractions. Visiting anytime, people always
enjoy coming here. Throughout the state there are many beautiful places you can visit. One
attraction is Toledo Bend Reservoir. The French Quarter in New Orleans is a very old attraction,
which has a lot of amazingly unique things. Another natural attraction is Kisatchie National
Forest.

Toledo Bend is a national park on the Texas and Louisiana border. The whole length of
this body of water is 1,700 miles long, which is the largest manmade body of water. It is a
famous tourist attraction. Boating, fishing, and camping are some things that I would encourage
someone to do there. Hunting and sightseeing are also a fantastically fun thing to do there. This
national park is a lot of fun and a great place to be on vacation.

The French Quarter is the oldest town in New Orleans. Another name for the French
Quarter is Vieux Carre, which means "Old Square." Vieux Carre is the oldest section in New
Orleans. It was founded by Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville in 1718. "Old Square" is New
Orleans’ central square. Now Vieux is called French Quarter, or just "The Quarter," which is a
reflection of the diminished French influence after the Louisiana Purchase. The French Quarter
is a really cool part of New Orleans that people love to go and sightsee.

Kisatchie National Forest is a wonderful place to go camping, fishing, hiking, and
canoeing. It is the only national forest in Louisiana. The forest is made up of long leaf pine trees.
There are 604,000 acres of public land of the forest. Kisatchie was made a national forest in
1930. It's home to forty-eight mammal species, fifty-six reptile species, and thirty amphibian
species, which is a lot of animal's. Located there in Kisatchie is canoeing, hiking and
photography. This amazing and only national forest in Louisiana is a great place to go.

Attractions in Louisiana are as numerous as some of the other attractions in other
states. Toledo Bend is a natural attraction that is fun to visit. You can go camping, fishing,
swimming, and there are lots of things you can do. The French Quarter is located in New
Orleans and is the oldest attraction in Louisiana. Kisatchie is the only national forest in
Louisiana, which means it is special. Louisiana is known for New Orleans that is fun to be
around its our happy town. You will have a great time in Louisiana!

Louisiana has amazingly beautiful geography and weather. There are three main
attractions you can visit. These attractions show that Louisiana is a fun place to be Visiting
Louisiana is great! Louisiana attracts lots of people every year, which is awesome.

Titus S.

I am Titus, and I live in New Mexico. While living in the mountains, I often see coyotes,
and one has eaten almost my whole flock of chickens. I have one loud rooster, an extremely
lazy dachshund, and an awesome family. I enjoy trying to catch the frisbee, launching rockets,
which we sometimes loose, and having nerf gun fights with my dad. Being a lawyer sounds fun
because I would get to argue in court. My favorite composition I wrote this year was about the
Olympic Games because it showed kindness in the story.

My Journal

Today is January 1, 2017, and I can’t wait to snowboard in the Winter Olympics. I began
by waking up at five am, which is before the sun rises. I decided that before I ate, I would run a
few laps and lift some weights. After lifting those heavy weights, I began to eat my breakfast
made of eggs and a lot of fruit. Since the snow still laid on the ground, I decided that running in
it would get me in shape a little. I decided that since I run a lot, I should hurriedly gulp some
water. Carefully, I got my new snowboard and started going down lots of steep and exciting
cliffs.

Oh boy, oh boy, I can’t believe that I’m actually here at the opening ceremony! I arrived

here in a Lamborghini, which is a very fancy car. When I got out, there were photographers
everywhere taking my picture because I could be an Olympic champion. I felt very famous. I
also decided to greet other racers, skiers, snowboarders, and lots more. Finally, the time came
to watch the opening ceremony, so I sat on a chair and watched the giant torch carefully lit.

I was extremely nervous. I knew that since I had trained so well, I shouldn’t be scared,
but I couldn’t help it. Badly, I wanted to win for my country so I decided that if I didn’t get the
medal, I would go home telling myself that I did well. While I was waiting, I decided to listen to
peaceful music and ask God to help me please Him in everything I do. I also snatched some
broccoli to gobble, which is very healthy, and kept me from being nervous.

Here I am at the starting line. I will try to beat the other thirteen snowboarders and win
the gold, but it’s not likely I will win. Before I jumped off I said a little prayer, and off I was
going. There were seven racers in front of me. I had learned in my training to be very well
behaved and try to pass the others. I was picking up speed. I looked at my expensive watch,
which not only tells time but also shows how fast I am going. I saw that I was going thirty-one
miles per hour. Quickly passing six snowboarders, I was only behind by one racer, whose
country was China. Then he fell down, and I felt terrible, so I kindly reached out my hand and

helped him up. Although there were twelve racers flying behind me, I was not afraid of losing
because God called me to be a light to the world. Together we passed the finish line.

Here I was, proudly standing on the stand where they would hand out the shiny, gold medal to
the first, silver to the second, and bronze to the third winners. I don’t know if I was ever happier

in my life. They placed the shared gold medals on my neck and my new Chinese friend’s neck.
As they played the American Anthem, I stood up and placed my hand on my heart. Excitedly, I

will never forget that moment, and I can’t believe that I really won the gold medal. It’s not the

riches that make me excited. It’s the story behind that gold medal, which I’ll never forget.

Josiah B.

My name is Josiah; I am 15 years old and in ninth grade. I live in Ohio. I have five
siblings – two sisters and three brothers. My hobbies are coin collecting, piano, and guitar
which I have done for six years. Some of my favorite foods to devour are: mouth-drooling pizza
from Papa Johns, yummy steak that my Dad makes beautifully, and cotton candy ice cream.
Some wonderful day I would really like to visit Mount Rushmore for its presidents’ faces and
the Great Wall of China for its wonderous beauty. If I go to college, I would very much like to
get a degree in zoology or botany. This summer I will be going to summer camp at Scioto Hills
down in Wheelersburg, Ohio, and also to Kings Island. I also will like very much to go down to
Anna Maria Island down in Florida to go to the sunny beach and hang out with my best friends
from church too! I really liked writing the critique about “The Emperor’s New Suit” because of
its wonderful story and good moral about how you should not be selfish.

A Story About a King and His Kingdom of Proudness

The title of this story is "The Emperor's New Suit." It is a Danish folktale. The author of
this story is Hans Christian Andersen. The story's publication date is April 7, 1837, and the
publisher is C.A. Reitzel. It is a short story of a few paragraphs and also part of Fairy Tales Told
for Children. The illustration that goes with the story is made of pen and pencil. This story has
been adapted to a film and musical stage.

With the beginning of this story there is no exact time period but the picture that they
provide for us is showing that it takes place in the Medieval time, most likely in summer. It
occurs in a huge kingdom with many people coming far and wide from many places. Since that
is mostly all of the setting of the story, the author has given not a lot of details for the setting,
which is good, because you can imagine what it looks like through your mind. Now going to the
characters of the story, we first start with the king who is the protagonist who is well developed
and can be seen for his flaws. The antagonists are the two swindlers who are common thieves
and con artists. They make the advisers, king, and even the people think that the cloth is there
and they can see it, even though it really is not. And last of the characters are the townspeople
who are gullible and proud of themselves for "seeing" the clothes on the king.

Starting with the conflict, it turns out the real problem is the kingdom versus the
swindlers. The second conflict is the king versus his kingdom because he does not care about
his kingdom, and he is selfish for himself. The kingdom or the people are willing to lie and "see"
the clothes that the king is wearing. Because of this problem, they are worried that others
might think that they are dumb and stupid. For the king, he also thinks he can see the
marvelous beautiful cloth, or he might think that he is also dumb and not suitable for his job of
emperor.

The problem with the swindlers versus the king is not resolved because the king finds
out that he has finally been tricked with the clothes that the swindlers have "made” and the
swindlers get what they want with the riches that the king gave them.

The conflict with the king versus his kingdom ends well. The king learns a lasting lesson
of not to be greedy and selfish. The author sums it up with not coming right out and saying that
honesty is more important than being selfish.

The story is very likable. It consists of an awesome plot and climax with a very good life
lesson because the king learns not to be selfish. The story is likable because of the
entertainment and fun of the story's climax.

Hi! My name is Ulrich. I am 13 years old and am in 7th grade. Some of the things I really enjoy
doing are hunting, which I do a lot of, fishing, and riding our horse. I also enjoy helping on our
farm. Some of the food I like is steak and burgers when they are grilled. There are also 12 of us
in our family. One of the things I would like to do is go way back in the mountain, since we live
nearby, and camp for a few days. We live in Pennsylvania near Chambersburg. This is just a
few of the things I do and like to do.
