Grade 5 Transition Night

The fifth graders experienced a slice of Junior High school on Wednesday night, May 24th, at Transition
Night! They participated with their parent(s) in multiple short workshops detailing social emotional changes,
programming, logistics, and expectations. The students asked wonderful questions and became familiar with the
new building, their upcoming principals, and some of their potential teachers. Rabbi Landsman spoke about this
special milestone in their life and we are excited to welcome them at the end of the summer to the next phase
in their development! Thank you to Mrs. Marcy Davidovics, as well as Mrs. Golubtchik, Rabbi Hamel, and Rabbi
Landsman for their informative presentations.

Grade 7 Trip to Philadelphia

On May 23, grade 7 students went on the YCQ annual ‘Philly’ trip. After a great ride on
beautiful Coach Busses, they arrived at the Franklin Institute where they walked through a
giant heart, climbed in the nervous system, and tested their sports skills. Students then
enjoyed a historical tour on a horse and buggy ride, toured the Liberty Bell and Visitors’
Center, and Constitution Center. Before returning back to school, the students enjoyed dinner
at the Cherry Grill Bistro. It was both a fun and educational outing enjoyed by all. Thank
you to Mrs. Golubtchik for all she did with the help of all the loving and dedicated teacher
chaperones.

YCQ Sixth Grade Girls Learn-A-Thon

On Monday, May 22 the sixth grade girls stayed after all the buses left for a speciall learning program!
After eatting pizza and cakes the students broke up into chavruta and learned for a bit all about the
beauty of Shavuot a well as why a megilla with a female heroin is read on Shavuot. The girls got family
and friends to sponser their learning with all the money going straight to Israel to help build a theraputic
farm for the children who live in Revava. Thank you so much to all those who participated and to Morah
Hadas for the beautiful event. May we be zoche to build more in Israel and be able to preform the
beautiful mitzvah of Yeshuv HaAretz soon!

YCQ Spring Supperette

What an amazing event! The evening was a tribute to three outstanding teachers who will end their teaching careers after many
accomplishments and having affected so many young lives. Mrs. Guise, Mrs. Criss and Mr. Kahn were praised and recognized by
administration and with tributes from their students. It was clear YCQ is sad to see them go. We hope they’ll come back to visit! Our
graduating 8th grade parents, Mrs. Sima Ancselovics, Mrs. Sheera Landsman, Mrs. Gail Reichwald and Mr. Alan Sherman have been
generous over the years with time and resources to support our students and our school. We hope that other parents will follow in
their footsteps and become involved as much as they can at YCQ in the future. The YCQ-PTO wishes Mazel Tov and Hatzlacha to
all of this year’s honorees. Thank you to all of the members of the Supperette Committee who made the event such a success.

YCQ Debate Team

The YCQ Debate League traveled to Yavneh in Paramus, NJ for its final debate of the year. The
participants were Yavneh, YCQ, Noam and Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy and they debated the
resolution: The United States should provide universal health care. We are very proud of our winners
Shira Schwartz and Rachelle Winokur who won as First Place Team, Shira as Second Place
Individual Speaker and Rachelle as Third Place Individual Speaker. All the team deserves to be
complimented for their dedication and hard work. We look forward to next year being evne more
successful! Specail thanks to Mrs. Ben-Habib for all her hard work this year!

Enrichment Trip

On Tuesday and Wednesday our 3th - 6th grade enrichment students travelled to the Yeshiva
University Museum in Manhattan. The students learned and explored the history of Jerusalem,
looking back at the time of the Beit Hamikdash and examining its current history during and after the
six day war. They observed real life 3D models of biblical yerushalyim as well as ancient books
written in the 1600’s. The students also partook in a craft activity creating different items related to
the yerushalayim theme. The trip ended with an excursion to 7/11 where the students enjoyed a sweet
treat. Thank you to the parent chaperones for joining us and Rabbi Rothberger and Rabbi Ribalt for
coordinating this trip.

Yom Yerushalayim at YCQ

This past Wednesday May 24th the entire school had a beautiful Hallel davening in the yard together!
The students were lead by Rabbi Nat with the help of Rabbi Hamel and Rabbi Nat. The atmosphere of
the yard was beautiful with flags waving all around the gates and above our heads! Following Hallel
the students sang Yerushalayim Shel Zahav that Morah Tali taught them. The students then enjoyed
cookies and ices in their classes and watched beautiful and inspirational videos all about Israel. Thank
you to Rabbi Nat, Morah Hadas, Rabbi Hamel, Rabbi Ribalt, Rabbi Landsman and Morah Tali for the
beautiful program!

Aesop’s Fables

This week the first grade went to see Aesop's Fables at Queens College. We were
treated to not only a puppet show but also a lesson on how some puppets are made. At
the end of each story the students learned a valuable lesson that they can use in their
own life. We all had a blast and hope to use some of the lessons we learned.

Nature Company Visits YCQ Nursery

On Monday, the Nature Company came to visit the nursery classes. The
children learned about different animals and their habitats. they spoke about
animals using camouflage to protect themselves. The students then pet a
rabbit, snake, crab and gecko. The program ended with a wonderful puppet
show. A fun and educational time was had by all.

Dr. Chava Kaplan Hears Dr. Chava Kaplan

The Seventh Graders of Yeshiva of Central Queens welcomed an amazing speaker, Dr.
Chava Kaplan, to share her incredible story of escaping from Iraq. As part of our
memoir unit, we were so moved as we listened to her experience. She shared beautiful
pictures of her family and were in awe of her strength and spirituality through many
difficult times. We thank her so much for her time and are even more excited to read her
book. Dr. Kaplan's memoir called The Strangers We Became, is available on Amazon. It
comes highly recommended!
