Middot Program
This past Monday, our 5th graders started to learn what respect is from a Torah
perspective as well as whom to give respect to, how to give respect, and when to give
respect. Concepts such as self-respect, respecting parents and teachers, compliment-
ing, showing gratitude, and respecting our environment were emphasized.
Second Grade Trip to Alley Pond Environment Center
This past Tuesday, the second grade visited Alley Pond Environmental Center to learn about
different animals and how they survive in the winter. Each class took a nature walk to find
clues of different animals that live outside on the center's property. They also got to see and
touch real live animals! It was a great learning experience for all of the students! Thank you
to Mrs. Chubak for organizing the trip!
Mummies and Masterpieces
Last week, Mrs. Elana Kaplan from Mummies and Masterpieces conducted a special program at YCQ
for the sixth grade. Each class was shown slides of artifacts that are in the Metropolitan Museum of
Art in the ancient Egypt exhibit. Mrs. Kaplan explained to the students what life was like in ancient
Egypt through discussion of the artifacts. With her vast knowledge of history, Mrs. Kaplan connected
the artifacts to Chumash and answered the many questions asked by our enthusiastic students. After
the presentation, the students were given clay to try to copy an ancient Egyptian artifact that they had
learned about. Students sculpted boats and sphinxes and carved hieroglyphs into the clay. The
program was thoroughly enjoyed by the students who gained a clear understanding of history and
Tanach.
Names Not Numbers
This past week we finished our Names Not Numbers program. We
interviewed Holocaust survivors and heard about their very difficult
experiences. It was very emotional to hear how hard life was for them
during that time. This is an experience that we will always remember
and never forget.
