These Religious Girls Made Aliyah from the
USA to Become Combat Soldiers in
the IDF

Nir Dvori of Israel’s 2 ‫ חדשות‬wrote the following:
“There’s an ongoing discussion about the place of religious women in
the IDF. You’d think there’s no room for women combatants. So I
uploaded these stories to try to silence the naysayers.”
Maya Neiman, 20, Fresh Meadows, NY and a proud YCQ Graduate
said ‘Religious girls can serve. Period. If your faith is strong enough,
you can handle any challenge. You don’t have to give up the service
just because you’re religious.’
It’s already a phenomenon, hundreds of religious girls leave the
United States, their religious communities, and choose to join the
Israel Defense Forces. With help from the organization Nefesh
B’Nefesh they come to Eretz Yisrael and make a statement on the
battlefield.

Special Tzniut Program

A few weeks ago the Junior High School girls began an innovative Tzniut Program. The girls were encouraged to work on tzniut
and those who showed extra effort in this area received raffle tickets. A drawing was held each Friday and prizes were distributed.
The program culminated on Friday January 6 with a spectacular Tzniut Fashion Show. Morah Beer spoke to the girls about the
special tzniut and strength of character demonstration by the Emahot and other important women in Jewish history. Each of the
eighth grade classes presented a Dvar Torah and a fashion show based on the theme of seasons and special occasions. The seventh
grade girls participated by preparing and presenting scrapbooks on tzniut. Special thanks to Morah Beer for all she has done for this
program!

Mix-It Up

The Seventh Grade Representatives of Mix It Up prepared a special
Power Point Presentation for the fifth graders. They spoke about bullying
and ways to help prevent this in their class. The students really enjoyed
the open discussion and received special prizes for participating. Thank

you to Avi Fried, Akiva Sokol, Eitan
Adler and Jacob O'Connor for the
terrific job they did. Mix It Up will
continue reaching out to the lower
grades to start educating them on how
they can promote kindness in their
classes. Special thanks to Mrs. Maisel
and the Mix-It Up Club!

Fifth Grade Overnight Trip to The Greenkill Environmental Center

The fifth graders had an exciting opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience in the wilderness
on their trip to Greenkill in Upstate New York. The students arrived to a scenic camp site with beautiful
log cabins where they lodged overnight. Their experience included learning about wildlife studies through
the show “Birds of Prey” and a forest ecology hike, and crossing the hanging bridge. The trip continued
with an interpretative walk through the woods where the students learned about different types of trees
and leaves. They also enjoyed a campfire, crafts, and survival skills classes. Through team building and
cooperation the fifth grade learned how to survive in the wilderness. Thank you to Mr. Ed Kahn and all
the chaperones including, Rabbi Landsman, Mr. Sommer, Mrs. Cohen, Rabbi Finkelstein, Rabbi Rohr, Mr.
Mondrow, Mrs. Orlanski, Mrs. Jaffe and Mrs. Hoffman, for making this trip so memorable. Special thanks
to Rabbi Lonner and Rabbi Kovitz for providing all the delicious food and snacks that the children
enjoyed!
