UPCOMING Parshat Mishpatim By: Rabbi Landsman
EVENTS
Our Parsha begins “And these are the statues that you shall place
before them.” There is a very famous Rashi on the words, “And these.”
Candle Lighting: 4:54 Normally “these” would mean “to the exclusion of others.” But Rashi says
Havdallah: 5:57 that the conjunction “and” adds to what came before (vov mosif) in
Parshat Yitro.
Friday-Saturday In Parshat Yitro, Hashem gave us the Aseret Hadibrot. Rashi here
Feb. 1-Feb. 2 says that just as the Aseret Hadibrot were given at Sinai, so too the laws
Grade 8 that are recorded in Parshat Mishpatim were given at Sinai.
Yachad Shabbaton There is another famous Rashi [Vayikra 25:1] on the words "On Har
Sunday, February 3 Sinai" (mentioned in connection with Shmita) which asks, "What is the
UPK In Session connection between Shmita and Har Sinai?" Rashi answers that just like
the laws of Shmita were given with all their rules and intricate details at
Grades 5-8
Parent Child Learning Sinai, so too all other commands were given with their rules and intricate
details at Sinai.
Sunday, February 10 If that is the case, what is Rashi adding here, by telling us that the
UPK In Session laws of Parshat Mishpatim were given at Sinai? We know that the whole
Grades 5-8 Torah was given at Sinai!
Parent Child Learning According to the Ramban, Parshat Mishpatim and the Parsha of the
Monday, February 18 Aseret Hadibrot were said together at the initial meeting of Hashem with
President’s Day Moshe on Sinai (prior to the forty days period when Moshe learned the rest
NO SESSIONS of the Torah). Subsequent to that, Moshe Rabbeinu came down, taught the
Jewish people what he had learned from HaShem, and then went back up
YCQ Family News to Har Sinai to learn more.
Ramban says that all the civil laws such as digging a hole in a public
Mazel tov to Rabbi
Rohr (Fifth Grade domain, or paying workers on time were stated on Har Sinai at the same
Rebbe) on the birth of time as the Aseret Hadibrot. Rashi is obviously stating something
a baby girl! significant. It’s peculiar that almost in the same breath as HaShem spoke
Mazel tov to Morah "I am the Lord your G-d who took you out from Egypt...", the foundation of
Sarah Kesherim Judaism, He also told us about our responsibilities when we borrow our
(K-105) on the birth of neighbor's car? Why does Parshat Mishpatim rate the same as the section
a granddaughter!
Mazel tov to Morah as "I am the L-rd your G-d"?
Eden David (3-209 Rav Moshe Feinstein, zt"l, said that this teaches us that if a person
associate) upon making does not keep Parshat Mishpatim monetary laws, he doesn't believe in "I
Aliyah and joining the am the L-rd your G-d" either. That is why "I am the L-rd your G-d" is in the
Israeli Defense
Forces. We are so same section as the law of how to pay one's workers.
Shabbat Shalom!

1-200 Siddur Presentation
Mazel tov to 1-200 on receiving their very first Siddur. They performed beautifully. Each
child had a part depicting how they learn each day in YCQ. Aside from a performance,
each child learned how their siddur will be a tool enabling them to connect to Hashem
throughout their lives. They are so excited to be davening each day from their brand new
Siddur! Many thanks to Morah Elana, Morah Julia, Morah Tali, Rabbi Ribalt, Rabbi
Hamel, Morah Maxine, and the PTO volunteers.
Classes 1-202 Siddur Presentation
Mazel tov to Class 1-202 on receiving their very first siddur. Morah Leah's first
grade class was all dressed up, looking special, and excited to perform for friends
and family. Their play was about a Siddur who taught the class to read the t'filot
inside. They sang and danced to beautiful songs and said their parts with confidence.
Each student received their own special Siddur with their name engraved on it and
then proceeded to a celebration with cake and treats. Special thanks to Morah Leah,
Morah Tali, and Morah Ronnie for helping us produce such a magnificent play. Thank
you Rabbi Ribalt, Rabbi Hamel, Morah Maxine, and the PTO volunteers for their hard
work.
In honor of Tu B’Shevat, the sixth grade girls designed a simulated Israeli shuk in
the multi-purpose room for the elementary school. Upon entering, the students
handed in their passports and received tickets to purchase items in the shuk. This
was a wonderful hands-on learning experience for our students as they became
familiar with Israeli culture. Special thanks to Morah Alyssa Schussheim for all of
her hard work in creating the shuk.
