Western Hemis”fair”
The Western Hemis“fair” is one of the highlights of the fifth grades school year, and this year was no exception. Students
learned about the provinces of Canada, states of the United States, countries in Central and South America, as well as
various Native American regions in the US. The Fair began on Wednesday in the classroom as the students presented their
boards to their peers . On Thursday, the fifth-graders brought in their models and set up the fair in the Multi-Purpose Room,
welcoming parents and students to learn about their topics. Some students even served as tour guides, taking small groups of
students around to see each project. A special thank you to all the faculty who helped make this fair a huge success. We are
so proud of our fifth-graders!
Sunday Morning Learning
This year’s Sudnay Morning Learning Program culminated this past week with a lecture from the world-famous
speaker, Rabbi Mordechai Becher. He inspired, enlightened, and entertained the large audience with a shuir on
the topic of “The Six Reasons We Have so Many Mitzvot”, The reasons Rabbi Becher gave included helping us
with self control/exercising free will, revealing HaShem/your Neshama in the world, and helping to remind us
and train us to constantly be great. A full link of the shuir is below the video of the week’s link. Thank you to
Rabbi Bernstein for organizing this past years Sunday Morning Program and to all the Rabbeim who spoke and
inspired out students,
YCQ CELEBRATES IT’S 76Th ANNIVERSARY DINNER
Names, Not Numbers
On Wednesday night, March 29th, YCQ hosted Holocaust survivors and their
families at our annual Names, Not Numbers dinner. Students spent time getting to
know the survivors they worked with and interviewed them in order to create a film
that shared their experiences. After dinner, close to 150 people watched the film
produced by our own eighth grade students as they shared a living tribute to the
Holocaust. Thanks to our faculty advisor, Mrs. Ruth Rosenberg, for all her hard
work and supervision, and to the Legacy Heritage Foundation.
Queens Botanical Gardens
On Wednesday March 22, the third grade visited an oasis hidden in Queens, the Queens
Botanical Gardens. The children went on a nature walk around the premises and got to
experience the change of seasons. Outside, the second graders learned about plants and
even planted their own saplings. The children each took home planted seeds and are
eager to watch them sprout. It was a fun and educational way to welcome spring. Thank
you to all of our dedicated second grade teachers who came along with us on this
beautiful trip. Special thanks to Mrs. Chubak for planning this trip.
Debate
YCQ joined Bet Porat Yosef, Flatbush and Noam for a debate on March 22 on the Noam campus. The resolution we
debated was: "The electoral college should be abolished". It was a very challenging topic and the schools performed
admirably. We are very proud that our debater
Michael Gersten won First Place Individual Speaker
and Michael Gersten and Yosef Flamenbaum won as
the Second Place Team. Congratulations to the entire
team for their hard work and diligence! Special
thanks to Mrs. Ben-Habib for all she has done for our
debate team!
Used Book Sale
This past Tuesday, the sixth grade girls hosted the annual used book sale. The girls collected books, and then facilitated the sale,
everything from set up, collecting money, and cleanup! The proceeds all go to different tzdakot in Israel. In Navi class the girls
learned about the beauty of Yishuv Ha’Aretz. The money collected will all go to Rechelim, a community in the Shomron which
has grown exponentially in the last few years, and the children still do not have any place to play. We hope the funds we have
collected will help build a play ground. Special thanks to Morah Hadas Fried for this this special program!
The YCQ-PTO officers would like to thank all
of the people who made Sunday’s PTO
Chinese Auction a huge success. We could not
have done it without the amazing staff and
extended family of YCQ.
