VOLUME 12 NUMBER 23 MARCH 14, 2014 12 ADAR II 5774
UPCOMING Parshat Tzav/Purim By: Rabbi Landsman
EVENTS Rabbi Yonasan Sacks, Rosh Yeshiva of Landers College, quotes the Medrash that

obvious miracles that HaShem performs for Klal Yisroel. Pesach, Shavuot, and Sukkot
Mon., March 17 are times when the hashgacha of Hashem is undeniably revealed. Ben Zoma says, that in
Shushan Purim the future we will not mention yetsiat Mitzrayim in our daily tefillot. The Gemara
Purim Carnival (Berachot 14b) explains that this view is based on the pasuk in Yirmiyahu (27:7-8):
Sun, March 23 “Behold days are coming, the word of Hashem, when people will no longer swear, as Ha-
Final Fifth—Eighth shem lives, who brought Bnai Yisroel up from the land of Mitzrayim, but rather, as Ha-
shem lives, who brought up and brought back the offspring of Bnai Yisroel from the land
Parent-Child of the North and all the lands where he had dispersed them.”
Learning Program
Accordingly, the Midrash asserts that when we experience the geulah atidah bime-
9-11 heira biyameinu, we will no longer commemorate our Yomim Tovim in the same way.
Rather, we will celebrate the miracle of our current redemption.
Tues., March 25
Science Fair Purim, however, teaches us a different lesson. Unlike other Yomim Tovim, where-
by we celebrate nissim gluyim, Purim, the Gra explains, teaches us to recognize and ap-

the whole Torah. For no one can have a part in the Torah of Moshe Rabbeinu unless he

JHS Chesed Day
On Wednesday March 12th, the JHS was involved in multiple chesed opportunities affording
the students a chance to “give” back to the community. The sixth grade girls visited Meadow
Park Nursing Home and the Queens Center. The seventh grade girls packed bags at Masbia
food pantry and part of the eighth grade girls went to Bobbie’s Place and Margaret Teitz. The
sixth grade boys went to the Cliffside Nursing Home and Wavecrest Nursing Home. The sev-
enth grade boys went to Otsar Day Hab and the eighth grade boys went to HASC High School.
All those who participated were taken to pizza for lunch. Thank you to Mrs. Ayalet Katz for
planning the events, as well as the teachers who chaperoned the trips.
Rabbi Glatstein Comes to YCQ
This past Sunday, we had the enjoyable experience of listening to Rabbi Glatstein, noted speaker
and Rav of Congregation Toras Emes in Queens. He expounded on one of the many important and
relevant lessons we can learn from the story of Purim. Esther, a simple orphan, was able to over-
come the great Haman who was not only a physical descendent of
Eisav, but also had the spiritual protection gleaned from the Mitzvah
of Kibud Av Va’aim; as displayed so keenly by Eisav. Rabbi
Glatstein asked, “how is it befitting that an orphan, one who has nev-
er had the merit of honoring one’s parents should be chosen as the
tool to overcome the grandson of Eisav?” Rabbi Glatstein explained,
that for precisely this reason Esther was a perfect candidate to destroy
the evil Haman. Esther, born an orphan always had a deep yearning
to perform the Mitzvah of Kibud Av Va’aim. Because her particular
circumstance did not allow her to fulfill this Mitzvah, this did not
stand in the way of her receiving full credit for this holy Mitzvah. In
fact, Rabbi Glatstein explained, it was viewed as if she fulfilled the
Mitzvah in totality. As Reb Yonasan Aibishitz says, “If one is not
given the opportunity to perform a Mitzvah but earnestly yearns to do
it, he is credited as if he has fulfilled the Mitzvah flawlessly.”
