Tzivos HaShem Shofar Factory came to YCQ!!
This past Monday, September 19, the students of the fifth grade came to the
MPR where they learned all about the halachot of Shofar. The students were
also given the amazing opportunity to make their own Kosher shofar to take
home. We look forward to hearing that our students had a new found
appreciation for the mitzvah of Shofar. May we merit to hear the shofarot of
Mashiach soon! Special thanks to Morah Hadas and Rabbi Ribalt for
organizing this special event.
WOW- Words of the Week
This year the students in JHS will be introduced to new academic words every week on a
bulletin board in the main JHS lobby. Students who use these words in their writing or find
them in their reading will get extra credit points or STAR cards for that class. Please review
the words with your whole family so that we can all learn together.
WOW
Climax- turning point in a story
Connotation- negative and positive feelings connected with a word
Dialect- form of speech of a particular region
Dialogue- spoken or written conversation between two or more people
Editing- process of correcting and revising
Enunciation- to clearly and distinctively pronounce a word
JHS Chesed Day
On Tuesday the JHS Boys had the first Chesed Day of the year! 6B1 and 6B2 made Rosh Hashana art projects
with residents at Meadow Park Nursing Home. The seventh grade boys learned about the upcoming holidays
together with the Bais Ezra men in the YCQ Multi-Purpose Room. The eighth grade boys made Rosh Hashana
art projects with the students at HASC. On Wednesday, the JHS girls all did different chesed around the com-
munity! The girls from 6G1 and 6G2 made Rosh Hashana art projects with residents at Cliffside Nursing
Home. The girls from 7G1 walked to Wasserman’s to shop for the local food pantry. 7G2 went to Seasons to
shop for the local food pantry. The girls from 8G1 went to the local food pantry to pack Yom Tov packages at
Kehilat Sephardim. 8G2 went to Bobbie’s Place to help out. Thank you to all the Rabbeim and Morot for chap-
eroning. Special thanks to Mrs. Katz for planning such a special day!
Eighth Grade Visits Ellis Island
This past week, the eighth grade students visited Ellis Island and the September 11th
Memorial. The students sailed past the Statue of Liberty on a beautiful ferry ride. The
students took a tour of the Ellis Island Museum and learned about the history of the island.
They ate an outdoor lunch overlooking the Statue of Liberty and spent time at Battery
Park. At the 9/11 Memorial the students took parchment paper and etched the names of
particular victims that they researched, followed by dinner at Bravo Pizza. The eighth grade
students had a wonderful educational day of touring lower Manhattan!

A message from Samantha Kramer, PTO President:
What a fabulous Kickoff meeting we had on Tuesday night!! As always, we were joined by
our very own Rabbi Landsman, our illustrious Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. Sruli
Glaser, our fantastic teacher Mrs. Jaffe and YCQ’s one-of-a-kind librarian Ms. Etta. So many
new faces too – at least five new parents attended our 1st meeting, as well as many parents
who have 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and even 6 kids currently enrolled in YCQ!!! It was an energetic bunch
of people – full of ideas on how to access PTO information more efficiently, make sure we
are all well fed at all times and raise money and enthusiasm around school events. Look out
for some amazing new initiatives brought to you by parents and teachers JUST LIKE YOU!!
We are a new PTO Board, many of us with young children looking forward to years of giving
back to a place that gives so much to our families.
